On Invasion, Nelson was pretty much the leader the underdogs which is why Tony's alliance kept getting sent in eliminations. Shane tried to be sneaky and cause problems but Nelson saw right through him which is why they became enemies. Nelson didn't win Invasion though but lost by less than 2 minutes.
On Vendettas, Shane & Nelson barley had interaction and not to mention Shane was eliminated pretty early.
On Final Reckoning, Nelson actually played a more quiet background game this season especially since he didn't have any allies in the game aside from Amanda at first. Shane on the other hand, let the Lavender Ladies being all together in the game get to his head and caused him to fight with anyone who wasn't in his alliance and made him and Nelson become bigger targets.

I am really disapointed to hear that Mattie most likely won't be on this season. That girl knows how to kick butt and rock a challenge. Hopefully they bring in Laurel to fill in the void of not having Mattie. I am thrilled that Wes will be back most likely.

So while I may have had a crush on her back in the day, I can acknowledge now that if she’s your partner and you by chance make it to a final with her - you basically have no shot at winning.

They've been trying to push girls like Jenna, Tori, Kam, and now Nany to the front. The women are just more replacable to production than Bananas or CT. Cara's just the girl so desperate to be on the show they know they can always count her in for the show (shown by the fact that she was backup for a few seasons in a row and lucked into being on the cast).
And tbf that storyline put Kyle in a positive way and made Cara look even more like trash than normal. I'm sure they would have loved to have done more with Day/Theo/Kam/Leroy but Day was too smart for that to be out in the open so much. If Mattie had brought Martha to the show, she'd have gotten a call back.
So yeah, they don't care about Cara enough to not cast people against her or they would never give Laurel a call. Sometimes we give too much credit to those we hate most on this show when really it boils down to MTV/the Challenge having shit taste in casting. We see it esp against men and women of color, after all.
