Cancun had 7 strong personalities? I count 2, Ayiiia and Joey.
Cancun had 7 strong personalities? I count 2, Ayiiia and Joey.
Everyone excluding Derek added something, got into a major fight more than once, and was a hell of a lot more entertaining than this cast. They're cool but they all seem passive aggressive.
I feel like the ratings are gonna go down again next week
Which is sad because that mid-season preview was hot
I think they need to get people that can argue, I've just been watching some clips from some old reality shows and the back and forth is great. Reality TV isn't what it used to be.
I feel like the ratings are gonna go down again next week
I think it may go down until the next big fight or moment or maybe it might go up since we seem to have a roller-coaster going on here lol. We'll ee, we'll see. Next week Johnny vs Jessica begins.
Don't be too harsh
Harsh? It's objectively observational, imo. For my comment to be "harsh," it would need to be personal.
When viewers leave, and something big happens on a subsequent episode, how are the viewers who walked away supposed to know? There simply aren't enough current MTV viewers to catch what few commercials air on MTV. The research shows that they begin making other entertainment choices as soon as they stop watching something.
When viewers leave, and something big happens on a subsequent episode, how are the viewers who walked away supposed to know to return
Magic.
When viewers leave, and something big happens on a subsequent episode, how are the viewers who walked away supposed to know to return
This is the same problem the WWE has with Monday Night Raw. They lose huge numbers of viewers, try different ideas to pop ratings, then wonder why it doesn't work. BMP and WWE are both failing to realize that once they lose viewers, it is nearly impossible to get them to come back. The quality of the product has to continually improve to get viewers back, they won't come back just because of a one-week stunt that tries to bring them back.
commercials
How's that been working out for MTV so far?
How's that been working out for MTV so far?
Smoke signals or carrier pigeons would have been more effective.
When viewers leave, and something big happens on a subsequent episode, how are the viewers who walked away supposed to know to return
I wasn't so serious about that and I'm not sure. Maybe by word of mouth, social media, catching a promo for next episode or mid season, maybe some people have always tune in from time to time to see what goes down and if they're not interested they'll simply change the channel, if they are they'll stay? Who knows... I can't tell you how and why the premiere started from 0.7 then eventually went up to 1.0 then down and up since then.
This season hasn't hit a 1.0 yet. The highest was 0.7 iirc.
I'd encourage you to recheck your data. There is a chart not too far back that shows the numbers up to last week. The series has not hit a 1.0 in the 18-49 demo yet, which is what they were referring to.
I think there is a miscommunication going on here.
For May 1, as reported on May 2. 18-49 REAL WORLD XXVIII MTV 10:00 PM 1024 0.7
Looks like a "1" to me.
From tvbythenumbers.com... Looks like a "1" to me.
I think he means a 1.0 in the demographic. It's a 0.7, which I believe is the highest it's been. If I remember correctly, I read from CastAStone that overall viewers don't matter if they're not in the demo.
Now we're on the same page. Thanks I don't recall any past season going head to head against a cable ratings powerhouse like Duck Dynasty which was just renewed for another season.
This season has a common factor with San Diego in terms of bad ratings. And that's simply the fact that they both had one drama filled character who is so overbearing that it actually turns viewers off instead of attracting them. Nia is pretty much just like Frank. Instead of people being intrigued to see what she would do next, they'd rather not watch the show because she turns them off too much.

Ryan from NOLA had the same overbearing qualities of Nia and Frank but you could tell he was reacting to situations exactly how he would in the real real world. The viewers connected, and he saved the series with a little help from Jemmye.
It's "official", Yahoo TV declares Real World a loser. This Year's Cable TV Winners & Losers With four months of TV ratings now in the books, it's pretty clear which cable TV shows are surging this year… and which big-name series are struggling. We've combed through the numbers and pulled out a dozen notable hits and misses across the cable dial. — Dave Nemetz, Yahoo! TV "LOSER: "The Real World" (MTV) This is the true story… of a franchise in decline. Twenty years ago, MTV pioneered reality TV as we know it by throwing seven strangers into an apartment together and letting the cameras roll, paving the way for everything from "Big Brother" to "Jersey Shore." (We're still waiting for an apology for that last one, by the way.) But now in its 28th season, "The Real World" is struggling, with its current "Portland" season debuting to a piddling 720,000 viewers. Maybe MTV should consider giving "Road Rules" another shot instead? Gas up that Winnebago!" I really like what they said about Road Rules in that article...maybe they should give Road Rules a try again(The REAL Road Rules show. Not that Viewers Revenge crap.)
This is the true story… of a franchise in decline.
Well for this to be true, The Real World would have to be a franchise. Yahoo doesn't even know the definition of a franchise, just a fancy word to put into their article. Loser: Yahoo.
Well for this to be true, The Real World would have to be a franchise. Yahoo doesn't even know the definition of a franchise, just a fancy word to put into their article. Loser: Yahoo.
I do believe you have missed the point, or perhaps are ignoring it. But just for discussion purposes, replace "franchise" with "series." Clarity may result. You also may benefit from exploring beyond the simple definitions. "Media franchise, ownership of the characters and setting of a film, video game, book, etc., particularly in North American usage" "Franchise" has often been used to refer to an entertainment "empire" or iconic TV series. The TV programs Dallas and 90210 were often referred to as franchises by media critics; therefore, it is arguably appropriate that it works in the context used by the Yahoo author in reference to a series which began production in 1992. I expect a good many people reading vevmo were far more familiar with diapers when RW began that with the longest running reality TV program. There is nothing wrong with an iconic or franchise program coming to an end. What would be tragic would be for the end of the series to be remembered for how badly it limped from public view. Nice try at deflecting the point of the article, though, which is that, in the author's opinion, RW is a television series past its prime. Certainly many who commented about the article on Yahoo were harshly critical, but not of the article. Great programs that simply don't attract viewers often win awards because the industry recognizes a superior art form/entertainment program even when the general public passes it by. When was the last time anyone seriously mentioned RW as a contender for an award?
I would definitely consider Real World a franchise. It spawned off two different shows, Road Rules and the Challenge.
