Maybe if you squint your eyes really really really tight...
I'm glad Chet pointed out that Mike was acting more upset over the Frat Pad thing than Heather was. He was suggesting Dustin leave the house over it.
I don't get Mike's hatred towards Dustin.
Does anyone noticed the hypocrisy in Mike thinking Nany and Heather making out was "hot" and this? All the guys in the house made statements that could make people think that they were homophobic: Dustin and Mike making a big deal out of being touched at a club by a gay dude, i think Dustin said he wanted to punch him.
This cast gets more and more ridiculous with each episode.

1. He's drama queen who blows stuff out of proportion
2. He's a hypocrite
3. He's a liar
Hm... I wonder why?

That's just how society is and it's probably not going to change anytime soon.

1. Mike is always in other people's business.
2. Mike is judgmental.
3. Dustin's past **** experiences in no way affects Mike's life.
So Mike being more upset than Heather is MIKE being a drama queen.

But on The Real World in the year 2011?? Isn't this the show that has strived to make the GLBT community more accepted in society? I'm sure the casting directors are shocked that this cast is turning out to be one of the most homophobic in a generation.

Of course not. Their reaction was a reaction of the moment to what was happening directly in front of them. The difference is that Dustin invested over two years of his life in a terrible "career" choice with disastrous consequences. We're in big trouble if we can't discern the obvious difference.

You may be forgetting that Chet is asking them to comment at this point in the season, not where he may be mentally today or at the time of the reunion taping. MTV rarely does a good job of getting this distinction across to viewers.

Well i get the sense that if Mike from DC were on this show and was making out with a guy, the reaction from this cast would be pretty different than the reaction from DC cast. That's just my opinion though.

I think Cooke looks a little like Katelynn from Brooklyn around the mouth

I really don't agree that this cast is the most homophobic in a while. I think the only truly homophobic comments we have heard have come from Dustin and Leroy. And having listened to podcasts with Leroy he has acknowledged that he has this attitude and is working on becoming more open minded.

Bottom line: He isn't. Projection to others is not a becoming quality or adequate defense.
I give credit to Chet for being very tactful in how he treated the whole Dustin situation. It would have been very easy to be really mocking and derisive, but he was respectful throughout. I do think his comments about the website person were too editorial, but that was my only gripe.

Hey, Indy. Chet wasn't as bad as I expected, but I think he made two big mistakes. Putting Dustin in a position where he had to defend a guy who has a boatload of Dustin's performances or risk offending the guy and having the internet flooded with it out of spite was a crappy thing for Chet to do. The second was all the stuff about Dustin should be getting money for it now or he was being exploited. Bashing the guy for being a creep for what he does and then arguing that Dustin should be in bed with him financially is a pretty craven way of looking at the whole situation.

I agree. That's where Chet switched from being an interviewer to being a commentator. That was the part I didn't like.
Chet was iffy IMO. But, I wasn't really focused on him. I thought Dustin looked very lacking in self-assuredness. I feel bad for Dustin, because it's clear he hasn't even come close to really analyzing his feelings and what he's done, where he is now in his life. It seems he just wants to deny reality and pretend nothing ever happened. He's really got a lot of soul-searching to do in his life moving forward, because he's not on a healthy path.
Heather, she was really not sitting anywhere near Dustin, she tried keeping away from him. Heather clearly has some negative feelings when it comes to male homosexuality judging from her faces and reactions to the things Dustin was saying. She has soul searching to do herself. I'm disappointed in her, I realize she's upset and angry, but she's come off quite cold and callous IMO.
Mike, I don't really buy the gay friends excuse. I do think he's a gay positive guy, but I also know he basically hates Dustin, probably more so that he champions gay rights. His reaction is solely based on a dislike towards Dustin, and he used this situation as his opening. He came off self-righteous.
Cookie, I'm not feeling her either. She seems self-absorbed.
All in all, the aftershow was as uncomfortable as the show itself. The most uncomfortable part was Dustin actually trying to dart around he himself saying homosexuality was a sin, and that sex was only for procreation. He's seriously delusional.

I think Dustin was just being defensive and, by that point, was trying to not invite any more criticism. I agree with your point on Mike 100% except I would add that he IS self-righteous. On the last point, I think that really is a conflict for some religious gays. He grew up in that religious background and some of his early tweets seemed to indicate he still went to church somewhat regularly.

I wouldn't necessarily go that far as to say he's denying reality. He seems so deeply intent on leaving the career behind him, but he's at least willing to explain it (even though his descriptions come off as inconsistent sometimes) on a worldwide scale. He seems he was hoping it'd be something to leave off his resume, unfortunately in the entertainment industry that's impossible. What he needs is to be surrounded by well-spoken and intelligent people who are knowledgeable on the subject, and he's not going to find that on MTV....

That part annoyed me too. I'm not even entirely sure he actually addressed Chet's question at all...It sounded like he unintentionally admitted to being hypocritical.

Dustin's story, I feel, is a double edged sword. Let's say he was extremely positive and open to the gay community and then it came out that he did gay ****, I'm sure these simple minded people would automatically assume he was just in the closet. However, he is extremely homophobic and talks like he has never met a gay person before. Maybe he hasn't, but the fact that he's been around a bunch of guys participating in gay acts, makes him look like a hypocrite. If he was honest about it from the get-go and was extremely comfortable with it, I feel people would have felt that vibe. Steven from the original LV season was a gay bartender and was open about that. But I guess I do understand the big difference, haha. Dustin is just a hypocrite and extremely confused on what he believes. I don't think he's gay, just desperate for money.
Mike- I actually agree with him. If I was tolerant and accepting of homosexuality and felt one of my roommates was just constantly saying homophobic things and then found out he did what Dustin did, I would be pissed. Yea, it has a lot to do with him not liking Dustin as a person in the first place, but I would still lose a lot of respect for him.
Heather- She's handling it the way any girl would. I doubt its that she has a serious problem with it, its that he didnt tell her before hand. And then hid it. I would be pissed too. I've had the same situation happen to me and I was PISSED. luckily I didn't sleep with that person but I was mad that they didn't tell me initially.
Interesting posts all around guys
A few points IMO
- Not buying the whole ''I had no other options'' bs. This is America, people risk their lives daily to walk/swim across borders to come here and be ILLEGALS. Last I checked the United States Military is ALWAYS hiring. So it's not a matter of ''not wanting to go on the wrong path'' and more a matter of - a guy shook thousands of dollars in my face and told me I could be a star in Los Angeles if I sucked and yadda yadda yadda. I'm really surprised how no one on the show, Chet or posters on here have made this point. Imagine how a military guy rotting in the desert overseas feels hearing this guy had no other choice in life but to suck a di*k and were supposed to label him a victim? Not buying it at all. Secondly here in California they HAND people free money to attend college/junior college. ''College wasn't an option for me''. WTF. I hear this every once in a while and still don't understand what it is supposed to mean. It isn't for you or once again your too lazy?
- As a matter of fact I wouldn't be surprised if Dustin is still in someway involved with the site and is nothing more than milking a possible reality show career. Why else does someone come on one of the worlds most popular reality shows to admit their darkest secret. ''A big weight was taken off my shoulders'' yet the guy can barely admit to what he actually did. From what I'm reading on this site, He's STILL lying as to what he did
- While Mike can come off as self-righteous at times you can't call him two faced. He made his displeasure for Dustin clear from the beginning and he wasn't about to hug Dustin and then bash him minutes later. The guy doesn't take **** and he'll tell you so, an aspect I totally didn't see coming from him (early episodes). Overall Mike seems like the only cast member that has the possibility to actually do something worthwhile in life, if the resume and college degree weren't a giveaway already. I'm sure he second guesses his involvement in the show and how future careers might judge him if he simply ''went with the flow'' and a circus broke out.
- Heather, I was proud to see her actually bring her claws out although when it came to Dustin she is obviously still very embarrassed. The way she tried to defend Dustin but yet put words in his mouth was kinda pathetic. Just let Dustin dig his own grave. This ''seems you just did a little and then a little more'' is once again a failed excuse. This is 2011, you have to realize ANYTHING & EVERYTHING is permanent in this day and age and especially some scummy sex web cam or whatever business. Even a Southern boy should be able to put one and two together and realize someone is paying a ton of money to see ''college boys'' do racy things and that footage will be forever recycled on web sites.
- Cooke is so sleazy it almost disgusts me. While she came on the show with a BANG and her approach of breaking up the couple was exactly what the doctor, post Adam, needed. Since Dustin's ghey past broke the couple up anyway , I'd like to get a refund and exchange on Cooke. She's pretty rough to look at, she's the size of the boys and has an awful body. She wore jeans to the aftershow.....

Re the comment in bold... Or Heather still has a fundamental issue with Dustin having not been open and honest with her before they had sex. There is nothing homophobic in her actions.
Other things had happened between Heather and Dustin and among the entire cast prior to the taping of the Aftershow that contributed to Heather's coldness toward Dustin. Some of it will come out, some will not. Both illuminate her attitude and behavior at the time of the show taping.

Could you reveal it in the spoiler thread? I don't know if whatever happened has been mentioned there before.

I agree with SPENCERLife about the part where Dustin says he "had no other options." Dude, it's 2011, you could have found something else to do besides gay ****, even if it was working in the oil fields.

My practice for several years has been to allow the cast members to address issues themselves. Things will likely come out over the remainder of the season. My point was to urge caution about any rush to judgement which the annonymity of the Internet makes all too easy for everyone.
Dustin was not a resident of California and was therefore not eligible.
Not only that, but if you are a poor kid, it is not likely anybody in your life really understands the admission/Financial aid stuff to help you and high schools pretty much only help and encourage a select few in that regard IMO.
Okay, a lot of great things have been said so far, but here our my thoughts. First chet is not good as a host. I think he needs more experience, and I think mtv made a mistake putting him in that position, while mark was someone who was in the interviewing business and knew what to do. Second, the person who talked about how mike is a hypocrite for talking about nany and heather kissing and then the gay stuff is right but not right. I think it is more about our culture, and more dealing with guys, that they love to see two hot girls make out with one another, compared to seeing guys do it.
My biggest problem with Chet is that he seems so biased toward Mike and against Dustin. He has made several negative p0rn star references on FB and twitter since this season started but never really said anything when Dunbar's movie came out. I think a good host needs to hide that sort of bias.
