Anybody going to see it?
Here is the "big twist" in case anyone cares. It is what really turned me off.
I guess the ribbon around her neck hides scars from the past when she was in an institution. But the big thing that we will "never see coming" is that the girl is actually a 30 something woman with a form of dwarfism that makes her look young. So that is why she can play the piano so well and draw/paint well and why she tries to seduce her latest adoptive father (yuck!). Lame, lame, lame to me. Also, because she has daddy issues, she puts herself in an orphanage to try and find a family with a dad that she can love like a husband. Obviously doesn't work out, hence the burning down of places and killing of people.
I was semi-looking forward to it when I thought it would have something to do with that ghost story about the bride that keeps her head on by tying a ribbon around her neck. Then her new husband can't hold off the curiosity anymore and unties the ribbon on their wedding night, making her head fall off. That would have been a much better movie to do a twist on that story I think.
EGAD! And now I REALLY won't be watching. Ever.
Oh, and I know exactly what campfire story you are talking about!! LMAO
If I had seen it in the theaters I would most likely walk out pissed thinking that was the best the writers could do. Blech.
Wouldn't that story have been SO much better though as a starting off point? I think so at least. Maybe it is just my preference for more classic type horror stories. I loved doing all that RED RUM, light as a feather stiff as a board, Ouiji board stuff when I was younger!
This was one of my favorite books:

Awesome book right? I also remember the illustrations being super creepy! I want to go out and buy another copy, I think I feel a scary story/movie weekend coming on...
It is so disappointing that the movie could have been good, but they ruined it with a stupid twist.
Agreed, I love Peter Sarsgaard so I was looking forward to it, then did a little research and was sadly let down.

That's how I felt about M. Night Shamylan and spoiling myself on "The Happening". I was so disappointed with the "twist" that I never bothered watching. (And I'm glad I didn't waste my time/money!)

Yeah, I had the same thing too. Big Zooey Deschanel fan so I was looking forward to it but it got such bad reviews I never bothered.

That last sentence sounds terrible. I wouldn't pay for that either.
I'm a hypocrite now. i went to see it anyway, lol.
Anyway, best line:
Wife: when a man loves a woman like your new daddy loves me....
Orphan: I know already! They ****.

If that was the best line, I'm glad with my decision to not waste my time...
I'm the type of person to see a movie and judge it for myself... i didn't read the spoiler, but I have to admit I am excited to see this movie.
The Scary Stories to tell in the Dark by Alvin Schwartz were my favorite....
I just found the book and here is one of the short storis:
"The Hearse Song"
"Don't you ever laugh as the hearse gos by,
For you may be the next to die.
They Wrap you up in a big white sheet
From your head down to your feet.
They put you in a big black box
And cover you up with dirt and rocks.
All goes well for about a week
Then the coffin begins to leak.
The worms crawl in, the worms crawl out,
The worms play pinochle on your snout.
They eat your eyes, they eat your nose,
They eat the jelly between your toes.
A big green worms with rolling eyes
Crawls in your stomach and out your eyes.
Your stomach turns a slimy green,
And puss pours out like whipping cream.
You spread it on a slice of bread,
And that's what you eat when you are dead."
- by Alvn Schwartz.
I actually finished most of it by myself :) :) :)
This movie was good. I was skeptical at first. Im usually REALLY hard on movies, but I have to admit that was good. I would give it a B. It's not scary, more suspenseful.

I agree, I liked it. It almost reminded me of the Bad Seed.
