Ironic as it may sound, on MSNBC right now they are doing a piece on the MJ story called- "Are we going overboard with the Michael Jackson coverage?"
Haha...Um, the fact that you are filling in the time you are not covering MJ with a story asking if you are covering MJ too much is probably a good hint...
"I haven't cared about Michael Jackson since the 80's and I don't plan to start now. ". LMAO!!!!
I concur. Would you believe my friend was trying to get me to fly out to CA and visit Neverland Ranch with her? Luckily, those plans were cancelled. If I get dragged along now, it will only be 30 mins to Gary. Apparently there's going to be a public memorial service there July 10th.
My main issue is that I pay for niche channels. Yes, every single channel be it E! or MTV. They are all tacked on to my bill as a monthly fee that is packaged together by my provider. If you have cable or satellite, you are also paying.
So when I flip it on CNN. I want news, not MJ.
Alive or dead I haven't cared about Michael Jackson since the 80's and I don't plan to start now.
Over the air channels are one thing as they are paid for by commercials alone. Cable channels are a choice and they are subsidized by me.
Don't worry. I've already complained...
Complain all you want but I don't think this whole MJ thing is gonna blow over anytime soon so you better get used to it.
I mean it's fine if you don't like/care about him but I don't think Micheal's death will blow over.
Plus why would you get your news on CNN anyways?
Plus why would you get your news on CNN anyways?
CNN is by far the most neutral of the cable news networks, which is why I watch it. I'll also tune into CNBC and MSNBC to avoid more MJ stuff. I'll catch the news on BBC America at night to get a different perspective.

No, there is too much money to be made. That being said, it isn't news. Rather it is just TMZ type celebrity gossip. I think the healthcare battle in Congress or the current state of the economy are much more valid issues to be filling the 24 hour news cycle with...
Not only do you guys think it is being blown out of proportion on the news, try living twenty minutes from it. It is terrible.
Oy! So glad I am not in L.A. anymore :) I would have been about 20 min away myself! Though I may be coming up for the holiday, but god-awful traffic is expected then.
Things are off the hook this morning. The Early Show on CBS is broadcasting LIVE from Neverland Ranch (as I guess everyone else is...) and they even went so far as to say, "Broadcasting live from this magnificent California estate. Wow, I swear I was seeing stories about Neverland a few months ago and they were calling it a dump that was wasting away and everyone thought it was way creepy. Now it is freaking Graceland! ;)

LMAO I was going to post that too! I love the looks on the ladies in the studio.
Brooke Shields speech was truly beautiful and theese last 2 performances are fantastic.
Yeah Brooke Shields was touching... but when Paris spoke at the end she brought me to tears....
So I wasn't going to watch it, because I was sick of it being on every channel. I caught the last hour and I was good. Then his daughter spoke and I was done for. I never thought I would shed one tear. His kids are beautiful and I hope they have a normal life.
How could you not have caught at least 30 seconds of it? It was on every ****** channel.
It was just a question.... excuse me for obviously touching a nerve
It was just a question.... excuse me for obviously touching a nerve
I sense a bit of attitude on your part, but I'll look past that to make my point.
It wasn't necessarily touching a nerve. I just think it's ridiculous that anyone (whether it be MJ, Obama, or anyone) needs to occupy all of the major channels (and other cable channels) for anything, 24 hours a day. I don't mind if it's new information, but it's seemed to be the same information for the last few days. Yes, it was a great loss. I get that. I just think it was way over covered.
It's ok though, I saw the Phillies score 22 runs about 7 times while I had ESPN on in the background.
Michael had such talent and did do very great things. I think that he should be remembered for that and not any possible personal issues. If he did do the things that he was accused of then God is dealing with that. let him be remembered for his greatness.
For some reason, this celebrity death is one of the few I have been particularly saddened by. I truly believe that without everything he has done, racial equality would not be at the state we are in now. People could not turn away from anything he did - for better or worse. He was an INCREDIBLE performer (easily the greatest this world has seen) and put out great music. He WILL be remembered for this as he should be.
People alive today cannot help but think of all the molestation accusations, but future generations will not hear about this. They will see the Thriller video and start dancing. They will see the Moonwalk and drop their jaws. They will not see interviews where he thinks its okay to sleep in bed with children. Many of my friends and I think back on the likes of Elvis as a great performer, forgiving his drug use and reclusiveness later in his life. When we hear of Brando, we think of a great actor, not a brat who thought himself better than others he worked with. Jackson will be remembered for what he contributed to the world.
I hope that in the wake of his death, we see another performer emerge that is his caliber. Clearly, no one will ever top the King, ever. However, we need someone the world feels connected to and wants to sing along with. I truly believe that when Madonna retires/passes/etc., there will be nobody else who will come close to what these great artists (past) have been able to do. Hopefully, someone does come along and becomes a LEGEND. Fingers crossed...
Anyways, I think there are two songs (both by Jacksons) that are so poignant and applicable at this time. The first is "Together Again" by Janet. In it she sings:
"Everywhere I go
Every smile I see
I know you are there
Smilin' back at me
Dancin' in moonlight
I know you are free
Cuz' I can see your star
Shinin' down on me"
Also, "Will You Be There" by The King is also great. He sings:
"In our darkest hour
In my deepest despair
Will you still care?
Will you be there?
In my trials
And my tripulations
Through our doubts
And frustrations
In my violence
In my turbulence
Through my fear
And my confessions
In my anguish and my pain
Through my joy and my sorrow
In the promise of another tomorrow
Ill never let you part
For youre always in my heart."
Sorry this is a long post, but this has been bottled up in me since the death!
RIP Michael!!
BTW - Janet Jackson was AMAZING to those kids during the funeral. She seemed to be the one that those kids felt closest to.
i agree with andrew 110%. i hate how people tried to set him up with those charges of molestatiom. it was a bunch of bull. we will all miss michael forever
