But the point is, we didn't. In essence, the journey is missing.
I understand your point. I don't know much about RR, as I was not a fan. Wasn't the premise of the show similar to that of the Challenge? Didn't they just drive around the country and compete in various missions or complete various tasks? I think we learn just as much about the FM cast members as we did the RRers.
I think we learn just as much about the FM cast members as we did the RRers.
Not even close. There were only a handful of cast members and the show was just about them, their journey and the interpersonal relationships amongst the tight knit group over an entire season (which lasted much longer than a Challenge.) It is not the same as being 1 of 20 or 30. Especially because most people are tuning in to see the Real World and Road Rules cast members and not the fillers...
Actually we don't. What Did Linette, Jessie and Chanda do again? LOL.
Well.. you'll always have those cast members that are forgetable. Sarah was only on Hollywood a few seasons ago. Already, I can barely tell you anything about her. I suppose I can see how RR may have concentrated a little more on the drama of the situation than the actual "game"... but not by much.

I think it had more to do with the fact that I always wanted to take a big road trip in an RV. ;) haha The thing that was different about RR compared to the challenges for me was that you had these people who had to live with each other in a really really small space while you embarked on these his stress missions that you had to work together to complete and win. With challenges you have this huge nice house, yeah you have to sleep in bunk beds but it's a lot nicer to have a full kitchen, restrooms, a sitting area and a pool. I think a lot of comradery was built on RR and they learned a lot about themselves and how they dealt with living with new people that you had to trust at the end of the day to complete the tasks. When they introduced the voting off process I think it ruined the heart of the show and the casts weren't able to form a bond with each other and the viewers weren't able to become attached to them either because they could be gone next week! Like Bacchus said, it's about the journey and knowing people outside a game show format that Fresh Meaters lack.

If this is true, I'm megaaaaaaaaa excited. No matter what I have said in the past, I do like Fresh Meat and if it is true we might not know their backstory, but it really doesn't matter to me as long as there are challenges and Real World forever, I don't care. LOL
Some of the new real worlders are freaking awesome.
who? From Cancun - I like Bronne and Derek. That's it.
who? From Cancun - I like Bronne and Derek. That's it.
Well, who do you consider new and who do you consider old? Many might count liking 2 people from the newest cast as liking "some" of the new RWers. ;)
Here's the thing, I live in Portugal. MTV Portugal sucks. The shows are completely different. I watched RW: Denver and RW:Hollywood in my tv because the other ones never aired. RR? NEVER aired on mtv Portugal either -.- So it's like, for me, they're all Fresh Meaters because I never watched their season. Get it?

Fresh Meat 2? Because the first one wasn't bad enough... Are we ever going to get a Battle of the Seasons 2 or am I just **** out of luck? :meh:
So, you have only ever seen 2 seasons yet you know all the new RWers suck? I don't think I get it.
I'm watching RW: Cancun now. And I watched RW:Broolyn online. So I watched the last 5 seasons (except Sydney) but I already know the cast members from the The Island and the Duel 2. I don't really like them.
I'll go off topic real quick to say I am a big fan of the castmembers of Brooklyn and Hollywood. I also like some of the people on Cancun. Thus, I do feel there have been some great recent castmembers. I'm suprised to a degree this is happening since, I constantly heard it wasn't. I just hope they have some great alumni to go along with the fresh meat.

Hollywood and Brooklyn both had great seasons and casts. I'm not a fan of the Cancun season but I feel that they are better suited for challenges and I look forward to seeing them on the future challenges. I'm not really surprised this is happening, it was only a matter of time.
But the point is, we didn't. No matter how many times we see the Fresh Meat people on Challenges, sharing the stage with dozens of other people, we will not glean as much about them as we would during one full Real World episode where an actual character driven story is told. That is the difference between a docudrama and a game show and is why I have never connected with or gained much affinity for the Fresh Meaters. We are not seeing them in a quasi-reality real world setting, we are seeing them competing for money. I'm sure they are great people, but I don't know them beyond the game show context and would much rather see people I have spent an "intimate" season with through trials and tribulations... In essence, the journey is missing.
I completely agree with this statement. If these FM challengers graced my screen for only one interview an episode each I wouldn't mind. It's the fact they take away camera time, challenge spots, and the realism away from the game. Most of these characters are so cut throat in their alliances it just makes me sick. These ********** feel the need to be way over the top and dramatic in their interviews and it just comes off so fake to me that I find myself muting the tv whenever Kenny/Evan/Evelyn/Diem hit the screen. I wouldn't mind it so much if these people were just there to fill spots and athletically compete, but these ****** take up 75% of the camera time. I mean on the Duel 2 I saw maybe 2 interviews of Brad/Landon an episode while seeing 7 or 8 of Evan. That is just unacceptable. On the Gauntlet 3 all I saw from the Vets squad were Kenny/Evan...just no. Part of the reasons why I think the ratings where so good for that season compared to the most recent ones was because it was centered around two people who haven't been in reality mix in a while, Frank/Jillian, two people that are actually relatable in their relationship. I hate that these challenges are centered around Evan/Kenny, it just makes the challenges seem recycled and reused considering it's the same people doing this **** over and over again. They seem to almost be trying to dethrone the RW/RR members with their behavior and the fact that they take the game far more serious and it takes the fun/team competition away. I don't care for alliances that are friends and kept secretive like what an alliance by definition is, but KEvan thomp around openly manipulating/yelling/making fun of other people. Dear BMP these cast members should be banned from the next 4 challenges till the next contract! Evan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Kenny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Johnny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Diem - no one cares anymore Paula - i hate you Dummibear - most of his appearance fee is going towards his steroids/anger classes anyway Eric - just no... Brad - if he's going to go till he wins it could be awhile Ryan - sigh...just sad Evelyn - shut up already Mostly the first tier but I could do without seeing the same exact faces over and over again. I don't care if they do a FM2 if it means the extermination of the six people I listed above.
Ugh worst decision ever! Wasn't the first FM bad enough? Shame on MTV/BMP/Jon De Mol or whoever is responsible for this. I really hope this ends up not being true :-\
On another note, if they are going to bring in Fresh Meat and conceivably pair them up with generation one Fresh Meat, shouldn't they finally change the name of the show to something more fitting such as, "The Real World and a bunch of people you have never heard of Challenge Series?" I could see a challenge or two from now were the majority of cast members were never actually on The Real World or Road Rules...
I have thought about the name thing for a while, but they did call it "The Challenge" on the website and commercials for a short while during/after FM. I don't know if it was coincidental or not. If they are going to do another FM challenge, and specifically have RW rejects, why not go back to having the casting specials in which they showed all the finalists to be considered for being on RW? I also hope there are good RW/RR castmembers who will go along with the FM people. And would they cast the original FM people as partners? That would be a little excessive if they have too many of them, IMO.
I know for a fact Ryan soley tried about for FM, I don't know about the two.
I know my response is delayed, but Evelyn and Casey were rejects, though they may have only been rejects because they were not old enough. I believe Johnny also auditioned for Fresh Meat though. I think Kenny and Linette are the only 2 people from the Fresh Meat 1 season that would have been interesting on the Real World. Hopefully they cast some interesting people this time, because on FM1 I felt like most of the FM Kids were extra baggage and the alum did most of the talking.

Just kidding, I don't mind the FM.
I know that everyone is worried about new kids coming in and becoming the new face of the challenges like some of the FM1 people did, but out of the however many Fresh Meat there are on this next season, only a select few will keep coming back. And hopefully they're entertaining.

It is very funny to me that now this challenge comes around and some people do not see that the name RW/RR challenge basically means nothing now. I am scared that eventually they will stop asking RW people to do these challenges as well. That would be an absolute NIGHTMARE lol. :sad2:
As long as they keep asking Brad back, he's going to come back and "give 110% cuz that's all you can do."
If that's the case, then I won't even bother watching. I guess this is my sign that I really am getting to old for this stuff...
I am hesitant as well to watch this if it happens. I agree with what one poster said - the actual RW/RR castmembers they were to get for the show had better be people we really want to see. Of course it will vary among fans, though. I also think all these changes are signs that I may be getting too "old" for this stuff, and I just got away from the age range they want in people applying for the show, lol!! I also agree that RR was very, very much different than challenges. The general feel of it was different overall. VR is not really included, though, but it still was a little different. EastNY, I thought they should have renamed the challenges when the first FM started. I agree with what Bacchus has said about the show - it's the idea that I don't agree with. I don't think there is anything wrong with rejected members or people who just auditioned to jump at the opportunity to do these challenges. It's just that I don't think BMP should have gone this route at all.
LOL. I won't be surprised if Brad came back, but I think he'll be a very good alumni to a fresh meat.
Evelyn was being considered for Denver since they thought no one would remember her. Brooke said she would have probibaly taken Alex spot.
Personally, I am not a fan of the FM people... I did enjoy the original FM season, but I wish the same people from that season would stop doing challenge after challenge. I'm hoping that since there are a few FM people on the Ruins that they don't do FM2 or I may not watch it. I don't want to see FM paired up with FM2 kids.
