I think the shows are still enjoyable. They are fun. But I don't like them as much as the older ones. I don't like the hour format. I don't like how they edit people and I don't like that they don't show people having fun and laughing. In the older challenges, you saw competition and people having fun, in the newer challenges all you see are fights and drama.
I think another thing that happened with the challenges, starting with the FM era, is that everyone has become so generic. The angry Black guy, The All American athlete, the loud mouth, no BS girl, the shy, quiet one, the drunk etc...
I miss the laid back, hippy-ish type of people like Jamie, Dan S. and Randy.
I think the shows are still somewhat enjoyable, but I do like the strategy involved and the competitions. I like watching the social aspect of the game which the earlier challenges lacked just a smidgen of. I'm curious why people still watch when they don't find them enjoyable...
There is some network research which shows that for a period of time people watch out of perceived loyalty. This is one reason why a mix of both new and old cast members is important to the ratings.
I only watch for the people I like. I watched a whopping 2 episodes of Fresh Meat 2 because there was nobody on the cast that I liked. I like Cut Throat because it didn't have the same boring guys (Johnny, Derrick, Kenny,Evan) winning. It seemed less predictable than all the others.

Awww....you're not Team Lando Commando?
I've watched RW, RR, and the challenges since the very start and while I wouldn't say they are completely unentertaining now, they have definitely lost a lot of what once made them special for me. I think the most glaring difference is that even when there was drama on the older challenges, there was a ton of backstory and it seemed like the people really disliked each other for a reason. With Melissa VS Julie, or Puck VS David, or Emily VS Veronica there was a TON of backstory as to why these people didn't like each other so it seemed solid and worth the time. On recent challenges it seems more like people get stumbling drunk and just picking someone to fight with........Laurel VS Eric, Laurel VS Shauvon, Shauvon VS Vinny, Vinny VS Derrick, Theresa VS Camilla, I could go on and on.....it all just seems like petty drunken drama that would be more at home on Bad Girls Club or Rock of Love. There is no backstory or story to follow cause most of the time the people involved are too drunk to even remember why they are fighting. So how are we supposed to take sides or root for somebody!?!?!? Or even find the fights entertaining!?!?!
Awww....you're not Team Lando Commando?
Don't get me wrong, i like Landon, Jillian, and Jenn but they're not big enough characters to keep me watching. Beth, Tina, Coral, Katie, Tori, Puck, Camilla, the stormin mormon, Theo, Aneesa, Miz, Veronica ect are the kind of characters that keep me tuning in every week to see what they do next. Landon seems like a great guy and I root for him, but he won't draw me in.

Ok, I'll agree that Cutthroat had plenty of drunken drama, and not a whole lot of lasting fights, but lets go back just one season where the whole storyline was kenny vs. wes. Also, while this may not necessarily be a fight, paula feels like she gets stabbed in the back again.
Up until Cutthroat, the last challenge that I legitimately enjoyed was the first Duel.
-Inferno 3 was so boring that I forgot to tune into it every week
- Gauntlet 3 was overrated... The same team winning over and over got old. The only thing that redeemed it was the rookies winning in the end.
- Island was awful... Just awful
- Duel 2 was all right. Good to see RR Rachel back again (for a longer period of time unlike the Island)
- Ruins had a good cast, but was a terrible concept
- FM 2 was the first challenge I purposely stopped watching (Inferno 3 I just forgot about... that's different, I guess)
What I liked about Cutthroat was that it had three teams so therefore it wasn't the same people going into the elimination round every single week. Also, there was a large batch of new people so it wasn't the same people we see over and over again. Just a nice breath of fresh air from the last bunch of ****** challenges.
I feel like the Inferno 3 has been mentioned a lot lately, so it got me thinking...
How much better do you guys think that challenge would have been had it been only RW/RR players in it?? I mean all BMP would have had to do would be to replace Kenny/Ev with someone like Tyler/Katie... Both could qualify for Bad Guys, and would have brought a lot more than the FMers did that season...
What are your thoughts?
Oh and I'm aware this could be asked for any of the post FM seasons, but I3 comes the closest as it was only shy 2 RW/RRers

I used to not like the idea of Fresh Meat, until I learned that some of the best competitors were fresh meat (kenny, Ev, Evan)
I don't think it would have been any better w/o kenny/ev

I agree with this. The Duel and Cutthroat are the only 2 post-fresh meat challenges that i enjoyed from beginning to end and i'd watch them again. Cutthroat cast was one of the best in my opinion and the format was even better.
I think you are right about the cast of CutThroat. I really liked Fresh meat but Fresh meat 2 was terrible. Really enjoyed about Duel (both) and just because of cast. Didn't like Inferno 3 (even Derrick won! But that season was worse than Fresh meat 2 and it's really weird because cast was pretty awesome) Same with Gauntlet 3 - great cast, boring season. Didn't watch Island - 45 min just of drama not for me. And why? Because when I'm watching S#!t They Should Have Shown it looks so interesting, cool season...
I agree with most of you. When you think about it, Inferno 3's cast was kind of awkward. Not in a bad way, it just had a lot of people that we weren't used to seeing instead of the same people that are usually on.
-Colie, Jenn, Davis, Tyrie, Jenelle, Rachel were all new.
-People still didn't know Paula, Johnny, Ev, and Danny. (They had all been eliminated first on their first challenge)
-Abram, Timmy, Alton, Ace, Susie, or Cara hadn't been on a challenge in a while.
Derrick, Aneesa, Tonya, CT and Kenny were the only people who had been on recent challenges. Also, it is the only challenge since Inferno II to not have a reunion.
I think one of the problems with the Inferno 3 is that the whole team dynamic doesn't make sense. You have ******** vs. Good Guys, but those are not opposite things, like Men and Women, or Rookies and Veterans. Like you could be both a ****** and a Good Guy or neither. Like Danny from Road Rules: Extreme, I would classify him as neither, and Alton I would maybe classify as both. He can be pretty ****** at times. I suppose this didn't really affect the challenge at all, but I thought it was just one of the issues that this set up brought about. Plus, with these types of challenges, it's really hard for the viewers to identify people who haven't been on the circuit very long as good guys or bad *****. Like Ev appearing in one episode and now she's a ******? I mean I have come to agree with that, but it's like MTV made this characterizations for us by choosing which team they should be apart of.

I don't like the format of the duel, they ended up being good challenges, but I didn't like them. I like the format of Fresh Meat so much better for an individual challenge. The winner send someone in, and the rest vote on the other, it is just so much more simple.
I actually liked the island because it was so different from the general, boring inferno/gauntlet challenge. Although, i generally like a game based on ability not politics.

I see your point, but you're just a little confused. You are thinking Bad *** as in talented/athletic/good competitor. MTV meant Bad *** as in Villain. Bad Guys vs. Good Guys.
By this logic, Ev is both a bad guy and a good competitor, and we already knew this from how she acted on FM.
I LOVED Cutthroat so much but i wus soo unhappy with the ending the red team the only people only the red team who deserved a win was Brad and Tyler, but i kinda liked how everyone on the grey and blue team all got $20,000. But anyway i think that Brandon and Camilla also deserved to be the winners because they were the best on that team
I was bored earlier today and was looking up the old intros from the challenges on You Tube. I think my favorite was probably The Inferno 2. It wasn't too incredibly cheesy (like the challenges before it were) but at the same time wasn't bland by any means. FM1 had a pretty cool opening too I thought.
What were your favorite intros?
My Personal Favorites
(Hint: I usually root for the underdogs)
Female
1. Laurel- She is the BEST female competitor that has been on the show. Even though she may be misunderstood at times, she plays the game with her head and even though she may come off as a B**** i 100% agree with every single decision she has made on these shows.
2. Sarah- She is a great competitor. Out of the three challenges she has been on she has made it to 2/3 of the finals. She never quits unless she is forced to (medically unable)
3. Emily- Emily is also a very tough female competitor, if it were not for Laurel she would be one of the top players. She is one of the only rookies to be accepted and treated as a veteran. She is one of the few to actually throw herself in, and she never hesitates. I also love how she and Jenn stuck together till the end.
4. Camilla- Camilla was one of the biggest underdogs in the history of the show. LOL. She was sent into multiple gulags, just because her team did not like her. She proved to be the BEST girl on the Red team and everyone saw except the Red team.
5. Jenn- Jenn is a great player, even though she has never won she has made it to multiple finals, and she is one to always speak her mind. She also never gives up, which is a great characteristic to have on these shows.
Male
1. Tyler- No matter what you may say about him, there is a reason he won, he is the BEST male competitor on this show. I think he the best, because people may underestimate him, because he is gay. He always speaks his mind, and say what you will about him, but he went against CT for 40 minutes.
2. Derrick- Possibly one of the best male competitors on the show. He is a great competitor, and the only reason he didn't make it to the final, was because of Tyler, and had he made to the final, i honestly believe that the Blue team may have won. But, unfortunately we may only speculate.
3. Chet- Chet is also one of my favorite, not just because he is a great player, but because he is never in the drama. He stays out and he is just a fun player to have on the show, and we can never know how far he would have gotten had he not been injured.
4. Dan- A great player to have on the show, because he is a fun person. He is a great player and definitely a fun person to have around. He is also a great example, because he is an alcoholic that went sober, which has to be very hard surrounded by these people who are constantly drinking.
5. Brandon- Brandon is the male underdog on the Red team, he and Camilla were the ones who were constantly sent into the gulag, but they repeatedly kick A** and come back. Brandon is a very calm person, and he never yelled or B****** about being screwed over, and he never wasted his energy fighting the inevitable.
My Two Least Favorites
Male
Vinny- Vinny was my least favorite he constantly erupted. He was too sensitive for these games. He was always in the middle of the drama. When he and Big Easy went into the gulag he was sent home, he B****** and moaned, and he would not even congratulate Big Easy on his win, instead he cursed him out.
Female
Tori- One person who did NOT deserve to win. She felt as if she had a high position in the house, just because she was married to Brad. Tori gave nothing to the Red Team, she was the "B**** of the game."

Duel 2, when they did that chant thing.
Gauntlet 3, when the Vets came out of the sand, I thought that was pretty cool

In this game maybe yea, but there has been alot of Rookies treated like Vets in the show. (Say... Brittiny in Duel 2.) Plus I thought Chet was wrongfully treated as a vet. I did like Emily though, but she seems kinda.... shy or boring. Maybe she didn't get enough camera time.
4. Camilla- Camilla was one of the biggest underdogs in the history of the show. LOL. She was sent into multiple gulags, just because her team did not like her. She proved to be the BEST girl on the Red team and everyone saw except the Red team.

IMO, Jenn is average, not great. She brings drama, that's her strong point, but she's a mediocre player.
As for Camila, I maybe won't go as far as saying she's the "best" on her team, but i think she was really a good competitor.
Male

Whoa.... let's not get ahead here. LOL. While I think Tyler proved himself to be an amazing athlete and competitor.... I think "the best on the show" is a bit of a hyperbole. I mean, I think he can be if he does more challenges and proves himself even more, but its exaggerating to say after one challenge of him doing well that he's the best IMO.
3. Chet- Chet is also one of my favorite, not just because he is a great player, but because he is never in the drama. I hope it's not, cuz he isn't a great player :D He thought too much of himself when he did absolutely nothing meaningful. He was cocky and thought he ran things [STRIKE] Much like his other p***star teammate [/STRIKE] Haven't been outstanding. I'd actually put him below average as I haven't seen him do anything.
5. Brandon- Brandon is the male underdog on the Red team, he and Camilla were the ones who were constantly sent into the gulag, but they repeatedly kick A** and come back. I did like Brandon, but I definitely think he needs to work on doing better in the actual challenges and not just eliminations. Then he'll be even more respected and a force to be reckoned with ;)
.

I didn't like Tori either, but she's known more so than Camila. At lease she went into an elimination. IMO, Paula had what was coming to her, but Tori's attitude to Camila was just really low; poor conduct.

ROFL at the very idea that some "deserve" to win while others do not. If you play the game by the rules, lasting until the final mission which win, then you deserve to be there whether or not I or anyone else may despise you due to the edit or whatever else floats my boat. Get over it.

I [strike]no[/strike] know what you mean, but there were some people who really earned a spot at the final, brad wasn't one of them, he stayed out of the gulag for the whole game along with Abram and Jenn. he deserved it, but he didn't earn his spot on the final like the rest of them did by going into the gulag. I chose the wrong word. He and Tyler deserved to win because they have put so much time into these challenges and i don't think either have ever won yet and then need a win.

I think Jenn is a good competitor, because she never gives up, she may not be the best athlete, but she does have what it takes to be on these shows. If Camilla wasn't the best girl on the Red team than who was, because they all kinda sucked.

I said Tyler is the best on THIS show and i stand by that i feel as if he really did prove it because he took down Johnny, by taking down CT, and if he isn't than who is, because he is definitely the best male out of the three that won the show.
I didn't like Tori either, but she's known more so than Camila. At lease she went into an elimination. IMO, Paula had what was coming to her, but Tori's attitude to Camila was just really low; poor conduct.
i seriously hated Tori so much, i have hated her since the Gauntlet III.
If Camilla wasn't the best girl on the Red team than who was, because they all kinda sucked.
Athletically, Tori was the best. Even Evelyn says so.
He and Tyler deserved to win because they have put so much time into these challenges and i don't think either have ever won yet and then need a win.
...Tyler was on 2 challenges before, and was the 2nd one out on both of them [I'm pretty sure].
I think most of the openings are interesting and well-thought. Inferno II, Gauntlet 2 when they are under water, Fresh Meat was alright. Nothing special about The Duel. Inferno 3 was cool when the Good Guys were being chased by the Bad *****. Gauntlet III was cool when the Veterans came out of the sand. Duel II was pretty cool, but the chanting was kinda weird. And I liked Cutthroat too.
Athletically, Tori was the best. Even Evelyn says so.
Just because Evelyn says so doesn't mean its [strike]rite[/strike] right. I think Tori is not that great of a competitor.
