I like Arissa's point of view on the pay thing - I'm also not one upset at cast members turning it down due to pay - I think production should pay some of them a little more even if it's been awhile since they've been back:

Steve, Darrell, Brad are not a bad bunch much better news than earlier.
MTVs obsession with trying to make Melinda a main character on the Challenge was very weird to watch real time back in the day. neither her nor Danny were compelling or good competitors yet MTV was so insistent that we like and root for them
Not weird at all. Real World Austin is one of the highest rated Real World seasons ever. I think it is just behind Real World Vegas 1 for "modern" seasons. Danny and Melinda WAS the main storyline all season. That is why they kept trying to make them happen and make them 2 of the main faces of the challenge. They were both just terrible competitors so it never happened.
For me, I'm just so used to having only one nice surprise on modern challenges (Darrell, Veronica etc.) that the possibility of having 3-4 is still enough for me. And REMEMBER kids! Some of the biggest pleasent surprises last season like Teck, LT & Jisela were not even announced until departure day on the locked board. I'm sure similar surprises will come this season too
I'm still hopeful for a couple of surprises. Gamer and Pinks comments have me worried as well as the lack of Challenge13 who was very active and excited. The fact that a willing Julie was ignored and Emilee is likely though says everything I need to know about the incompetence of production.

See this is why Susie dragged Mark for being so involved in this. This girl literally ruined 2 of the deliberations by volunteering. Saving her with the life shield was pointless as she ended up volunteering again. Saving her with the life shield was actually something to help advance the show. While we can all agree Kendal shouldn't have been criticized for thinking about using we know production wanted it used at some point. It also got rid of a quitter so that worked out perfectly. We need less people to volunteer but Katie is always great casting.
