Star Wars: The Last Jedi - Movie Review (Spoilers)

SPOILERS

_____________

Is Snoke really dead? (Let's hope so).

Did Kylo lie about Rey's Parents?

Will Luke be in Episode IX?

Does anyone feel the 30 minutes spent on a casino planet worked? (No - but it might be the key to the next installment).

Purple hair. Yes or no? Not big on-off new cannon so it felt out of place. It didn't fit in this world without explanation.

Light jump through a massive ship? Felt this was covered in Prometheus, but I liked the silence and effects offered in this version.

That battle against the Praetorian Guard. Payoff!

Can Ben be saved? Umm...no.

Phasma? Let's not waste ink.

Best moments? Kylo/Rey interaction. Rey/Luke interaction. Death of Snoke. Opening bomber Paige's sacrifice.  Lukes moment with Leia. Luke bringing new information into the cannon with force presence.  Poe being Poe. BB8. FInn, Rey, Poe, Leia, Luke. Great ensemble work.

Snoke being killed by Kylo surprised me. I do hope they talk about his origins through some comic or book because I want to know how he came into power within the First Order and how he became powerful in the dark side of the force.

IMO, Kylo told the truth about Rey’s parents. I think it’s possible for someone to be gifted with a strong connection with the force and not have to be related to someone important.

Did anyone notice at the end the stable boy used the force to grab the broom?

I think the entire encounter on Cantonica was built around that ending, which is going to build in IX. The actual core of the resistance is down to about 20 people at the end of the movie, so in order to win the struggle, there is going to have to be a bolstering of the ranks.

I'm really happy that Disney decided to mostly do away with the prequel midichlorian backstory and allow for anyone who is willing to listen, to be one with the force. Much like Chirrut in Rogue One.

I want to watch these. Do you have to watch all of the Star Wars or can I just watch this and Rogue One? I know the order is weird so what is the best order to watch in and which can I skip?

Watch the force awakens before and you will be good to understand the last jedi, but I recommend you to watch all movies, especially the original trilogy because they were not done by disney.

4,5 and 6 are original.

This movie was so good and I don't care what people on Twitter are saying because it did everything it needed to do so that the next movie could build a good storyarc and finish out the trilogy.

It took big risks, but the right risks if that makes sense. Snoke just didn't make sense storywise longterm because not only would Rey have to fight Kylo but she'd have to fight snoke too and this trilogy seems to just have one epic final fight just like the original triology did. The prequels had like 2-3 big fights and although those were pretty good, it doesnt make sense in this trilogy.

Kylo definitetly lied about Rey's parents, if she isn't a Kenobi then so help me god. Only thing making me think he didn't is Rey's reaction knowing that they were nobodies who just sold her off(kind of like she already knew)

I thought that purple hair lady was evil but she turned out to be the savior I was so shocked. That light speed scene was beautiful and the silence made it so much more impactful.

Luke will be in Episode 9 in a minor role I'm sure. Carrie Fisher was confirmed not to be included, although her family gave the rights for them to CGI her in. I do like Carrie's daughters role and think it's nice of them to include her.

The scene on the casino planet was long, but I kind of liked it because it set up a story with the future Jedi kids. I hate animals getting hurt so I hated seeing those animal thingy's with the whip marks so I'm glad they're free yay!

Wasn't a fan of all the comedy, none of these movies have been humorous before--yes even you Jar Jar.

Overall, I'm very impressed with this movie and loved every second. Going to the Thursday night premiere was epic because it was a crowd full of superfans and we could all enjoy it in the same way.

Rouge one is set in between Episode 3 and 4 which really has nothing to do with this movie.

I always recommend to people that they watch in the order regarding time frame in the universe. Start with Episode 1 then go 2,3, Rouge One(spin off/opitional), 4,5,6, then finish with 7.

Really fantastic. I preferred Force Awakens, but FA is one of my favorite movies of all time, and my favorite Star Wars, so that's hardly a knock on this one.

This new trilogy is fully desgined to be watched alone. So watch The Force Awakens and then head to the theater.

That said, a lot of the emotional impact of the new moves is based on the orginal trilogy. The prequels are trash and only for viewing if you've seen everything else and want to go deeper into the Star Wars Universe.

Minimal: The Force Awakens

Better: New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, The Force Awakens.

Rogue One is spectacular, but in between the prequels and the original trilogy. A great watch, but not needed.

Rey being a nobody >>>>>>>>>>>>>>

My ranking. Yes I'm a late 90s kid so I'm prequel biased.

8>3>7>5>4>6>1>2

I love episode 3 and that will never change haha. Episode 8 is my #1 now just because of all the risks it took and it paid off. And Snoke dying too was unexpected and epic

I'm going to have to do a repeat viewing of TLJ before I kick out my official rankings. I'm just not sure where it belongs right now on my list.  I'm definitely conflicted. Eight is taking me more time to process than any of the other films. Much more nuanced, with some amazing highs as well as lulls.

Without rewatching - 5>4>8>6>7>3>>>>>2=1

That's where I am right now. I LOVED Rogue One and weight it much higher than pretty much anyone I talk to, and I am not sure if I'd put it before New Hope (I know, sacrilege!) or after TLJ. Since all these side films are cannon, I think they should be included in the rankings - specifically because they deal with the near Skywalker blood line.

I have to still see this one, I already know the spoilers so dont mind seeing them again. Just came here to say I LOVED Rogue One..I think I have Rogue One right below Empire on my rankings.

I watched Rogue One while drunk as hell and going through a breakup...

I definitely should rewatch because I loved what little I remember.

I hope the upcoming new trilogy is wholly its own thing. No Skywalkers. No Solos. No this. No that. Take me to a galaxy far far far far far far far far away.

It will be in a place in the galaxy we have never seen. I'm really excited.

I loved Rouge One as well! We need some Old Republic movies. I need Revan to become canon!

Well all the Skywalkers and Solos are almost dead, except for my boy Kylo, the Supreme Leader so you will probably get that

Went back for a rewatch tonight. Wasn't disappointed. The first half was still a bit slow, but wow did the throne room battle on, part of the movie shine! Knowing about astral projection younger Luke really changed this viewing for me and I was able to appreciate all of it.  It's kind of like watching Empire again, knowing full well that Vadar is Luke's father. It changes things.

BTW: Great video about the fan divide:

The Last Jedi - The Most POLARIZING Star Wars Movie

Great movie. Whole lot better than Force Awakens. Definitely want to watch it again.

After seeing TLJ the first time, I went back and watched TFA - which I loved upon first viewing. There were a lot of parts I didn't like as much as I thought I did. It's still a good movie that served a purpose (reboot) but doesn't hold a candle to the world-changing storylines of TLJ.

I think it is going to take big payoffs in episode IX for people to really appreciate what was done with TLJ.

I thought Force Awakens was good but it was pretty much re-used plot lines from the original trilogy which is fine when you're reintroducing a series and the backlash the previous one got.

but that's why I liked TLJ more. It did its own thing and it was great.

Hopefully we get a decent passage of time when the story of Ep IX begins.

Empire > New Hope > Last Jedi > Return > Rogue One > TFA > the first 3 episodes imo.

Rogue one was underrated to me even though it's not a necessary film.

I saw this thing last night and I’m still confused why there was comedy in it. When I watch a Star Wars movie I’m interested in war and fighting not to laugh.
