I don't see how same sex and differrent sex rival pairs would be fair otherwise. There's a law or something that makes sure the game shows aren't biased. That's why there never has been another battle of the sexes. Of course this all speculation, I could be talking about something irrevelant.

i think that person was talking about the same amount Of each pairs M/M, M/F, F/F. That would only compete against the same gender specific pairs (M/M vs M/M) etc
The point of Rivals is having to work with someone you hate. If you split into teams every once in a while it kinda diverts from the theme completely.
Not that things like this ever stopped production.
With a few exceptions that's never really been the case.
The first Rivals cast did a decent job....CT/Adam, Kenny/Wes, Evan/Nehemiah, Cara/Laurel, Aneesa/Robin...okay, maybe not that good of a job but at least there weren't many reaches. Davis/Tyrie had their moments, Tyler/Bananas had "history" the challenges (Duel, G3, Xthroat), Jenn hit Mandi, Jonna/Jasmine had something...but, yeah, some reaches.
The second one was a trainwreck....CT/Wes was the only legit one that I recall.

That kind of makes sense, Rivals 2 had a twist from the rules of Rivals 1. Same with the rules of Exes to Exes 2.

Well it looked like on Bloodlines they were on the same team as their bloodline.
So with Rivals I would assume the same thing. Once we figure out the exact Bloodlines format we will have a better idea how things could work.
