I don't get it. Ron Artest(I refuse to call him his alias) and Russell Westbrook both tear their meniscus last year, and both come back within days. I tore mine in February, and still can't do anything that requires change of direction activities. Rose tears his and he's out for the season?

Westbrook was out 6 months after tearing his meniscus. Ron Artest tore his and missed 13 days (After the surgery, his return was estimated at 6 weeks). Rose is probably going to be out for a similar time period that Westbrook was out for (although Westbrook's recovery time was mostly during the off season). You have to remember that the tear can have a wide range of severity and that everyone has a different body and recovers at different rates. You probably also didn't have one of the best surgeons in the world work on your knee.
I went to the Celtics home opener at TD Garden last month. I was thinking, I'll drink a bunch of overpriced beer, see Bill Russell honored and so begin the C's journey to the lottery. They got trounced and I got cleaned out by the fine purveyors of Allagash White beer. All in all a good night.
A little over a month later, I stand in disbelief. If the playoffs started today, not only would they make them, but they would have home court advantage in the first round! Wow, does the Eastern Conference suck.
It's early and there's plenty of time for them to tank, but I am getting the distinct impression that beyond Miami and Indiana the Eastern Conference is a sad joke. This can't be good for the NBA.

Boston wouldn't have home court advantage in the first round if the season ended today. The NBA is weird and has the division winner as the 4 seed and the 5 seed will have home court if they have a better record. I don't get why they just don't have division winners drop down to a 5 seed to make the home court advantage thing simpler (in the past, they would be the 3 seed, but after the 06 playoffs had San Antonio and Dallas meet in the 2nd round with the 2 best records in the conference, they changed it so that the division winner could be a 4 seed instead of a top 3 seed).
The Eastern Conference has been inferior to the Western Conference for quite some time, but this is an absolute joke:
The Eastern Conference against the Western Conference: 31-67
The Eastern Conference against the Western Conference w/o Indiana and Miami: 21-65
Indiana could realistically win 70 games based on the fact that they won't have many tough games, and they only have 1 Western Conference Road Trip left. Their current winning % puts them right at 70 wins if extrapolated to 82 games.
3 days later and the East is now 32-77 against the West. The onslaught continues.
Also, the first wave of votes for the All Star Game are in: James edging Durant after first All-Star Ballot returns | NBA.com
The NBA embraces the All Star Game being a popularity contest, something that baseball needs to do.
Wow soooooo BronBron back to the Cavs! Maybe going to be joined by Love!?!
Love is going to the Cavs, they're going to the finals. The Bulls are going to be their biggest competition if Rose can stay healthy.

good point reiko.
i can't stand bron. but i do love me some james harden. ugly *** beard though.
I prefer LeBron over Kobe....never a huge fan of Harden (but he is quite talented). I'm a Kings fan, I love Isaiah Thomas!
I give the Cavs 2-3 years before they make to the finals, I put the Bulls/Wizards above them. All those young guys have never faced intense pressure games (Even K Love) and they honestly will need a consistenty healthy center that can defend the rim and Andy can't do that

I'm all about the Bulls because of Derek Rose haha

LeBron has plenty of playoff experience to share with his young team. I'll be shocked if they don't win the Eastern Conference. Also, I don't know if Varejao will be the starter or Tristan Thompson at center. Thompson is a younger, healthier, better player and Verejao will be better coming off of the bench. That way they can limit his minutes and keep him fresh all year. As much as I hated LeBron four years ago (I'm a Cavs fan haha) I'm really looking forward to see him try to bring a championship to Cleveland.

If D Rose stays healthy (please) and John Wall and Brad Beal really take the USAB cut personally its gonna be tough. They'll definitely be a top 3 seed atleast. And my thing with Thompson at the 5 is that he's like 6'9 6'10 but I don't think he's a shot blocker either lol. Luckily no matter what happens the Cavs will have an offensive advantage with Kyrie Lebron and K Love. Imagine the small ball lineup of Kyrie Dion CJ Miles "i think" Lebron K Love.

I hope Rose stays healthy. He's so fun to watch. I think that the Wizards could be like the Pacers of last year. They're a major sleeper that could end up with the best record in the East. The Cavs offense should be sick this year. It's going to be incredibly fun to watch and it might actually force me to go to a few games this year. Thompson isn't a very good shot blocker even with his size but he's a great rebounder. He and Love will be forces in the paint and should be able to get many offensive rebounds. This will be the first year in a while that I'll be watching the NBA on a day to day basis.

Oh definitely the only Cavs games I can say I watched were against my Rockets, but they weren't exactly competitive. With that squad now they'll be on national TV as well consistently.

The only team I see getting in the way of the Cavs right now is the Chicago Bulls but only if Derrick Rose is healthy and playing at an elite level. Other than that, the East is Cleveland's to lose.

I think you are crazy if you think it will take 2-3 years. Yes they have young guys but Lebron has plenty of playoff experience as does Mike Miller. If they get Ray Allen, which most experts believe they will he also has tons of playoff experience. Plus this team is miles more talented than the group of players Lebron took to the finals his first go around in Cleveland. Who was the "rim protector" for the Heat the past four years that they went to the finals? It sure as hell wasn't Bosh. Only a handful of teams have a legit "rim protector".

I'm looking at their team as is with the inclusion of Kevin Love. But of course bringing in the best player in the game to be their leader will change the culture of the team, but they have proven absolutely nothing. People overblow how undertalented those Cavs teams were when LBJ and company were winning 60+ games two years in a row in a much more competitive Eastern Conference compared to his time with the Heat. This team isn't even as talented as Miami was when he got there And in Miami their biggest disadvantage night in and night out was lack of true big men, Bosh is a 4 playing the 5, Birdman is getting old and is best used as an energy guy and Oden never played. Regardless of that they made up for it with a top tier defense because of coaching/defensive schemes that mature players bought into. Who on this Cavs team has ever bought into a real defensive scheme besides Lebrons old teammates Miller, Jones, Haywood and Varejao? All of those young guys will all of a sudden know how to defend teams properly? All of these young guys are immediately gonna have amazing chemistry? I doubt it. They can dominate on offense and dominate the boards but their defense will be so suspect.

It didn't take long for the Heat to gain chemistry, they made the finals year one. Look at the roster of the Cavs team that went to the finals and find one player on that team (besides Lebron) that is anywhere near as talented Kevin Love or Kyrie Irving. Will they be a great defensive team, probably not but again not many teams in the league are. You are harping on the lack of experience the Cavs will have in the playoffs but think the Wizards have a better shot than them. Wall and Beal have made the playoffs once, is that a lot of playoff experience?

Regular season I see the Cavs racking up wins very similar to my Rockets last season, just purely from an offensive standpoint and they'll be a top 3 seed easy. I just don't see the defensive identity needed for the playoffs.

Defense will be their number 1 issue. The question is who in the East can compete with the Cavs? I just don't see it, especially with the Pacers losing Stephenson and George being hurt.

Miami was always the favorite but they still started off pretty slow that first year and when they cliqued they looked unstoppable. That Heat team also featured 3 star players that lead their respective teams year after year to the playoffs and Kyrie or Love haven't come close to that. There are no players on that old Cavs team that can even compare to Love or Kyrie no question, but the Lebron 1-4 system on that old Cavs team with their defense under Mike Brown won a ridiculous amount of games. I guess my issue is that they won't win like my Rockets won't win until their defense is legit. They probably wont win more games than the Cavs, but the reason why I put the Bulls and Wizards over them is because they have more offensive/defensive balance. And yes that one year in the playoffs and a couple games from upsetting Indiana are all meaningful experiences that most players on the Cavs can't share.

The Bulls and the Wizards should be their best competition, the Hornets and Raps could be sleepers. Pacers have some terrible luck is all I know.

The Bulls are the only legitimate concern for the Cavs.
Toronto can actually be a good team but let's be real they aren't competing with the Cavs.
