Well I'm not giving up, but I hate this idea and have since the beginning. Obviously it could turn out great, but still it just feels wrong.
But I REALLY hate the name. Like, it's actually offensive to me how bad it is. People complained about Road Rules X-Treme back in the day. This is 384785749575967 times worse.
The title isn't Ex-Plosion. It's Exxx-P|0$i0ñ because THEY JUST WANTED TO SWITCH IT UP A LITTLE
i find it funny that all of you are just "giving up" because of a format change... RW Fans, huh?
The same people that complained every season about The Real World being the same format...Then BMP add a twist and they are still complaining.

The problem wasn't the format--it was the casting

Too many girls tbh.
What happened to Arielle, btw? She seemed fairly intriguing.
Also, do we have a pic of Ashley C?
Also, I thought Lauren was Cory's GF not Ex? Or did they break-up during the process?

Sarcasm or for real?

Yes, those pictures above are from her high school/early college days (except the last 2):

So much class. Words cannot even begin to describe.
I mean I'm not giving up, I just don't like the idea. No matter how bad a season is I still can't stop watching it. I've been watching the show for way too long to not watch all the seasons.

This is not The Real World anymore.
This format change isn't that big of a deal. TRW hasn't truly been The Real World (both in terms of the show, and in terms of life) for ages. A format change keeps things interesting and, honestly, if this season does well and revitalizes TRW, I'd welcome a new format change each season, like Big Brother.
Some casts just aren't interesting enough on their own. For instance, I know St. Thomas would have been a whole different (and better) season had Trey and Robb's "exes" joined the cast. I just think the name is tacky and looks like it was taken from Nickelodeon. The Real World: Exes would have been fine with me.

Or having Trey's gf after he cheated on her with Laura and she supposedly got an abortion...Leaving with them not just vist
I think what's most annoying about this format change, besides the truly awful name, is that RW has never felt the need to do it before. I mean, one thing I've always respected (using this word loosely) about TRW is that it's been on for 20 years and over that time, reality shows have changed drastically. They've been getting more and more gimmicky as the years go by, but RW never felt the need to change their formula to keep up with those trends. Really, the only thing they changed was that they started casting more party people, but I actually think that was a natural change just simply based on how young people have changed over the years. But think about it, they could have easily jumped on board and started casting midgets when that was popular, or casting a guido two here or there (though you can make a case for Adam R on that one).
Like the article said, despite the recent ratings troubles, the show has been surprisingly durable for its 20+ years. Is is the same exactly as it was when it started? No. But that's an unfair comparison IMO, because of how different it was back in 1992. HOWEVER, there was no reason for this format change. Who knows, maybe it'll be interesting but seriously there's gonna be 14 people living in this house at some point??? Plus, they can only use this format for a season. It really wouldn't work for season 30. "Surprise, you're exes moved in too!!!" At that point, it's like been there, done that.
They mentioned in an article they had multiple new ideas but that this was just one of them.
Maybe next season it'll be another twist but not an exes joining them kind of twist.
They even mentioned this season they gave them smartphones to document and record things that happened during their experience, but only close friends and relatives of the cast could see them. Throughout the season those pictures, articles, tweets, whatever it was will be gradually released

Exactly. And what ****** me off more when I was reading an article Variety did yesterday
-- insiders say that "Real World: San Diego" was not as captivating as it could have been because cast members at times froze up, or muted their personalities in the presence of rolling cameras.
So had San Diego done well we probably wouldn't even be going through this, obviously the show would have to change its format at some point I doubt it would've been this season since it wasn't that long ago that Vegas was one of the most highest rated seasons in recent years. I just hope this format change works because if it doesn't it's gonna turn off potential viewers even more making it more and more likely that Season 30 will be the last.
It didnt just mention SD, it also mentioned that STT & Portland didnt bring in the ratings wanted.
MTV producers are high off of NOLA & Vegas ratings, when really NOLA and Vegas shouldnt even be taken into consideration. The ratings are literally just outliers with how high they are compared to all other seasons in the past 4 years...
Take them out of the equation and they all average about the same numbers.
So... "Real World: Ex-Plosion"... :tongue-new: :applouse: :triumphant:
So, if there is going to be a BOTS3 this team will be called "Team Ex-plosion"? :glee:
Jesus, they are desperate AF.
I actually went through all those emoticon stages as soon as I found out about this format change and it's confirmation.

This is true, but at the same time they should look to how they cast those seasons when they're casting new seasons. Obviously something about those casts worked. I love those 2 seasons, and don't get me wrong there's a few duds in there (mainly in NOLA: Ashlee, Eric, and Sahar) but the casts a whole were people that obviously viewers enjoyed watching. I know next to nothing about the casting process, but I just think there was obviously something that worked in the casting process for those two seasons that they should have continued.
And for the record, I believe that had Portland aired directly after Las Vegas, the ratings for that season would be a different. But that's a whole different story. There was no saving SD and St. Thomas though, unfortunately.
I don't understand how people think the new format isn't even The Real World. I like the idea of them enhancing the format now because it has that potential to bring back the real in reality. I don't want to continue to watch seven strangers fabricate drama for TV which is what we've been getting the last few seasons. With this format the roommates will be showing real emotions being that they are around their Exes and depending on how the relationship ended. I also think we'll get their real personalities because if they try to act different for TV I'm sure their Exes will call them out.
I would also like to add that The Real World was mentioned on a lot of big media outlets yesterday and only few had anything bad to say. Also more people seemed excited on Twitter about the twist including Real World Alumni.
Next season will be The Real World: Rivals. Their worst enemies will move in with them.
No no no no..
Real World; All Stars.
This name... I cant.
Am I the only one that sees the name as a way to grab the attention of the casual viewer. Just about every knows this show was "The Real World: [ENTER CITY]" if they hear this new name they might give it some attention.
