They’ll start to form bonds, with each other and with San Francisco locals. Then, one month into the three-month shoot, they’ll go away for a day trip. When they return, they’re in for a huge shock: Their exes have moved in too.
Real World: Ex-Plosion? What in the actual ****?
Uh... Real World: Ex-Plosion makes it sound like some cheap VH1 dating reality show or something but idk maybe this will be good for the show to change the format. I just hope it works.

If both Jon Murray and Susanne Daniels are excited about it, shouldn't we at least feel somewhat the same? I'm most interested in what the other format ideas were though.
Expect the unexpected in this new season of The Real World. This season starts with seven strangers who all have complicated relationships with their exes and are ready to be free, enjoying single life in the Real World house. But just when they get comfortable and new relationships start to brew.... surprise, their exes move in. This season is a return to the beautiful backdrop of San Francisco, but viewers will quickly learn this is a fresh re-take of The Real World from top to bottom. The season kicks off with the cast finding out they made the show and only have a couple hours to pack and head to the house. When the excited singles arrive at their loft, the hookups begin almost immediately. One couple even hooks up in the confessional the second night. Being in close quarters with brand-new roommates immediately puts the roommates to the test as one wild roommate ostracizes herself from the group and decides to move out. With relationships building and tempers flaring, the roommates are completely caught off guard when they find out their exes have moved into their place -- and are there to stay! The new living arrangement throws a major wrench in the roommates' love lives. Love triangles, jealousy, scandal, fights, hookups, breakups and makeups take over the house as our roommates either learn to live with their exes, or push them out one by one. It's a passionate new living situation -- the first time to ever be explored on the Real World.
I don't care what no one says this season sounds like it might be the one to revive the show. Just reading the synopsis I can tell my eyes will be glued to the TV. I hope they get these trailers and promos right because this is giving me old school Real World with a little Love & Hip Hop and Bad Girls Club vibe.
how are you guys saying this doesnt sound promising? Im SUPER excited for it, however the name is annoying. I feel like there wont be a storyline cause evern with 8 cast mates tehre was always 1-2 that were in the shadows the entire season, so with like.... 12 itll be even worse. But still a whole new take on it and i actually really like it. PS whoever said that they should say if its the last season ahead of time etc etc etc... i feel like when promos air or something they will do a huge "The Real Worlds LAST SEASON YET! Dont miss it!" or something in their promos. I dont think they will end all willy nilly like mentioned above somewhere, and if anything, i think NY will be the last season. Start with N and end with NY (assuming it does get cancelled sooner or later) PPS The original Real World SF is on MTV.com now
I'm curious to know what they'll do next season because this is something you can't do over again without the cast catching on. I expect the trailer to start with fun times and hookups from the original cast and when the exes show up we get fights, arguments, and breakdowns.
I just hate that the format is changing. It's sad.
I'm generally okay with the format... It has some promise and will hopefully bring in viewers. But what in the actual **** is the name "Real World: Ex-plosion"?!?!?
Tbh ex-plod ion sounds more like an episode title than season name...
It's the name according to MTV.com Real World Ex-Plosion | Full Episodes, Photos, Episode Synopsis and Recaps | MTV
The Real World Ex-Plosion??? Lol no..... This is the worst idea MTV has ever had. I don't want the real world to change. This sucks.
I think the name was changed so certain viewers don't get confused. A person who hasn't watched the show in a while would be confused if they turned the TV and seen all of these cast members and the show was called "Real World: San Francisco". Calling it "Real World: Ex-Plosion" explains the concept better to people tuning it who are new viewers or viewers who deciding to watch the show again.
They coulda done TRW: San Francisco Ex-plosion
Love the idea! I'm actually really excited for this season with this new format change. The change definitely sounds promising and so does the synopsis.
They coulda done TRW: San Francisco Ex-plosion
The older San Francisco was so memorable that I think it was best for them not to use the name again especially if this doesn't do well.
So Official Cast 1. Arielle Scott 2. Ashley Ceaser (Arielle's Ex) 3. Cory Wharton 4. Lauren Paige (Cory's Ex) 5. Jamie Larson (Ex Didn't Agree) 6. Jay Dibendetto 7. Jenna Compono (Jay's Ex) 8. Jenny Delich 9. Brian Williams (Jenny's Ex) 10. Thomas Buell 11. Hailey Chivers (Thomas's Ex) 12. Ashley Mitchell (Ex Didn't Agree) Too many girls tbh.
So... "Real World: Ex-Plosion"... :tongue-new: :applouse: :triumphant: So, if there is going to be a BOTS3 this team will be called "Team Ex-plosion"? :glee: Jesus, they are desperate AF.
Only reason it's too many girls is cause 2/4 girls ex didn't agree, and one of the originals dated a girl, otherwise it would have been an extra guy, obviously. I wonder if Ashley found out and that's why she left, despite the being pregnant rumors.
They are def. doing this 'cuz of bad ratings from prior seasons. Will still be watching it tho. Maybe the producers should've put Real World on hiatus 'cuz this is not what the Real World is. Real World/Challenges just aren't what they used to be. A lot of so-called 'trashy' content nowadays. (Btw, long time lurker--first post :D)
Only reason it's too many girls is cause 2/4 girls ex didn't agree, and one of the originals dated a girl, otherwise it would have been an extra guy, obviously. Also it seems Jenny and Cory/Arielle and Jay may have Hooked-Up. Also since the the Exes move in after filming , It is pointless to not call it Real World San Fransico or Back to San Fransico , I just hope that if the RW comes back they don't do any themes or twist that has this many roommates It's gonna get hard to follow 11 people in a house.
Remember Ashley left and one of the ex's just lasted 2 weeks in the house... Jamie ex didn't agree to do it because he is kind of known guitarist his name is Cameron Liddell. Ashley Mitchell ex went to the house , but also didn't agree to do it. Technically it would be just. (6 origals and 4 exes at some point)
****, so I won't be watching this season.
I really don't even now what to say...
I don't find anything wrong with changing the format especially after the explanation was given. It's been over 20 years since The Real World started and people aren't as close-minded like they were back then and the people who are obviously aren't auditioning for the show. The show was boring because most of the cast got along and the issues they did have were petty. I like that they are keeping the original concept and just enhancing it. At least with this format we can expect real drama.
Damn, so I won't be watching this season.
The show has been awful for years--this officially killed it
I always said I would never give up on this show and I still enjoy some seasons but with this new idea they have completely ruined it.. It isn't even the same show now. Disappointing
i find it funny that all of you are just "giving up" because of a format change... RW Fans, huh?
Well I'm not giving up, but I hate this idea and have since the beginning. Obviously it could turn out great, but still it just feels wrong. But I REALLY hate the name. Like, it's actually offensive to me how bad it is. People complained about Road Rules X-Treme back in the day. This is 384785749575967 times worse.
