Huge night for the NBA. Game 7 of the ECF got the highest cable rating for an NBA Game ever. Celtics/Heat Game 7 on ESPN Sets New NBA Cable Record with 9.1 Overnight Rating - Ratings | TVbytheNumbers It is also got a higher rating than every game of the 2010 World Series and a higher rating than 4/7 of the games in the 2011 World Series. No information on total viewership yet though. ABC has to be pleased with the teams playing in the Finals. They would have preferred Lakers-Knicks (unrealistic) or Lakers-Heat (realistic) but this is a very good result for them.

Oklahoma city is the second smallest media market (behind New Orleans) in the entire NBA and Miami is only the 16th largest market. You almost have as many people on Staten Island as the entire OC metro. This will easily be one of the lowest rated NBA finals in the last decade.

The Heat are ratings gold for the networks. Last year's Dallas-Miami Finals beat LA-Bos in 2008 (and in 2010 on a per game basis, but the 2010 Game 7 gave the 2010 Finals an overall victory). I would say that Kevin Durant has a bigger national appeal than Dirk. These Finals will get the highest per game ratings since the 2004 Finals. Edit: A market size sets the floor but not the ceiling.
You seem to have conveniently forgot that Oklahoma city is not Dallas (the 5th largest media market in the United States.) There is a big difference between 5th and 45th. I can tell you right now, I'm not tuning in. Market size is not only important, it is paramount. You only have to look at the highest rated games on ABC to conclude that big metros equal big ratings.

Who cares about ratings? As a basketball fan, I'm psyched to see OKC-Miami. How could you not watch Durant vs. LeBron? Could be one of the best Finals in years.
Jessica Sanchez just straight killed the National Anthem. Phillip who? Anyways, OKC is got this.
I think the Heat win this one because OKC will have nerves. I think the Thunder win the series in 6 though.
The Frozen One lives !! Look for the same in game 2...Durant is the BEST player on the planet right now !! OKC totally outclassed Miami tonight.
Year later and Lebron still has no fourth but KD on the other hand DAMN!!!!!
Durant was fantastic in the 4th quarter. The Heat lost to the Thunder. LeBron didn't lose to Durant. Westbrook was dominant in the 3rd quarter, where they took the lead, and Collison was spectacular as well. If you are going to criticize anyone on the Heat, it should be Dwyane Wade. I prefer to give credit to the Thunder for their amazing 2nd half. Westbrook brought them back into the game and KD finished them off.
Sefolosha needs to get props for that win too pretty much shutting down whoever he was guarding in that second half whether it was lebron or wade, barely even saw Harden.

He is very underrated. He is the reason why the Thunder won 4 straight against the Spurs. He absolutely shut down Tony Parker once they decided to have him guard Parker. He shut down Wade whenever he was guarding him on this game. It was pretty funny how they called a foul though when he jumped from too far away and missed a dunk.

Let's see if it holds up with the Heat looking shaky.
Better than I thought it would be as well. I didn't think it would surpass the 04 Finals. People love to hate the Heat and LeBron while the Thunder and KD are a likable team (to everyone outside of Seattle). I think OKC takes Game 2. I thought that if Miami was going to steal a game in OKC, it would be Game 1 where the Thunder had nerves for never being on the big stage. Miami took the 1st half lead, but OKC stormed back in the 2nd half. I only think OKC wins 1 game in Miami though before closing it out in 6.
If the 2006 finals Wade doesnt show up in this series, then I see Thunder sweeping.

I think the way the fans in OKC are they deserve to have it won on their home floor like the Kings did. They make it one of the toughest road arenas to play in and having to watch the team celebrate in Miami would be ******.
I'm so excited though I can't wait to see who wins the finals. I do not want Miami to win one bit.
I'm so excited though I can't wait to see who wins the finals. I do not want Miami to win one bit.
I'm with you on that one. The big hype of LeBron and the Heat makes me want to cheer for OKC.
Exactly, Fab. Plus it doesn't help that Lebron thought he was so/too good to go to the Knicks. So wrong.
Exactly, Fab. Plus it doesn't help that Lebron thought he was so/too good to go to the Knicks. So wrong.
Pretty sure Lebron is in a better situation with the Heat as opossed to what he would be in with the Knicks.
Exactly, Fab. Plus it doesn't help that Lebron thought he was so/too good to go to the Knicks. So wrong.
It seems like you are just a bitter New Yorker to me. You thought the Knicks were getting LeBron when they had nothing to pair him with other than an overpaid big with a history of injury problems.
If the 2006 finals Wade doesnt show up in this series, then I see Thunder sweeping.
Yes, or win in 5 or 6 if LeBron pulls another 45-15-5 game out of his butt.
I actually would like to see LeBron win this time. Last year he didn't deserve it with his disappearing act, but I really think the man is back on top of his game. If OKC wins, that's fine, too. But it's time to stop the Bron hate.
I think tonight's game is a must win for the Heat they have all the pressure on their shoulders if they go back to Miami down 0-2 they'll lose this series in 5. I think tonight LeBron is going to be defending Durant all night and that means either Durant has to prove he's better than LeBron or the rest of the group has to score big.
Pretty sure Lebron is in a better situation with the Heat as opossed to what he would be in with the Knicks.
Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. I don't know why I care, I can't stand him.
It seems like you are just a bitter New Yorker to me. You thought the Knicks were getting LeBron when they had nothing to pair him with other than an overpaid big with a history of injury problems.
Me bitter? You can step off with that notion. I'm nowhere near bitter. I just keep it real. And injury has nothing to do with it, dude. And what the **** does pairs have to do with this?
Me bitter? You can step off with that notion. I'm nowhere near bitter.
Pick me, me! I'm bitter! ;)
Me bitter? You can step off with that notion. I'm nowhere near bitter. I just keep it real. And injury has nothing to do with it, dude. And what the **** does pairs have to do with this?
You clearly misunderstood the 2nd part of my post. The Knicks roster was terrible. They had a bunch of spare parts and an overpaid big with a history of injury problems (Amare who they signed a week earlier). Why would LeBron want to sign with that team besides the fact that it is in New York.
You sound bitter because of your wording.
Exactly, Fab. Plus it doesn't help that Lebron thought he was so/too good to go to the Knicks. So wrong.
I don't think you'll find any quote from LeBron saying that he is "too good to go to the Knicks" lol. He chose to go to Miami; he didn't choose to not go to New York...
13 - 2 start for the Heat have anything to do with every NBA analyst telling Spoelstra to start Bosh?
