The Real World 28 Casting

I try to watch this show every single week to try and get ratings in, no matter how boring or bad the episodes are. I really think a reason though why SD2 did bad in ratings might be because it was on during the school year. During the school year (especially in the fall) I'm wayyy too exhausted to stay up to 11, and it feels like a chore to me when I do so. I think another reason why ratings for SD2 were bad is because they hardly ever showed reruns. Everytime I put on MTV in the afternoon during the week, it was either Teen Mom, Jersey Shore or Rob Dyrdek.

Why would MTV cancel the Real World? I thought they owned it. If so, the gross profit margin on the show could be a lot lower to still make it worth their while since they would be getting a bigger chunk than on an outside show.
Doesnt that only work if you have a nielssen box?
Ohhhhh, really? I had no idea. I always had a feeling though that the gov is stalking our TVs anyways in a Big Brother type of way (not the show, the thing from 1984 that is), and so they know what we watch anyways and that contributes into ratings. But whatever.
Yeah that would be a little creepy. But another reason I would keep the TV on and watch in its original airing is because they hardly EVER showed reruns during the week. They'll re-air Jersey Shore thousands of times, even have marathons of it. They re-air 16 & Pregnant and Teen Mom all the time, and they have marathons of them usually by the end of the seasons. And almost every time I put on MTV it's always something with Rob Dyrdek (Fantasy Factory or Ridiculousness). That's all they ever show on MTV. I think if they're not gonna show videos, they should at least have decent shows. Most of their other shows get cancelled after one season, particularly the scripted ones (the ones people actually KNOW are scripted that is, like Skins or My Life as Liz), especially with shows like The Hills gone (which I actually loved, btw, even if it was fake, I just loved it.)

Since digital boxes are turn on individually through the cable lines, I suspect they might now know what everybody is watching, or at least they could know.
But. It. Can't. Be. Cancelled. Until. I. Am. 21. ****it.
How much longer do you think it will be until they do call backs for the semi-finals?
How much longer do you think it will be until they do call backs for the semi-finals?
Depending on when filming starts it could be anywhere from a few weeks (if filming starts in Fall 2012) to a few months (if filming starts in Spring 2013)

They must be casting anti-matter for that one. LOL. Seems like the ones they really want find out a few months ahead of filming and some background, who cares cast members find out a week or three before filming starts based on various interviews I have seen.
Why would you think MTV owned the show when it was created by Mar-Ellis Bunim and Jon Murray at BMP?
Briefly to stay on topic I will go with the auditions seemed to be advertised as MTV events. It would be reasonable to conclude that MTV must have an ownership interest in the show even if BMP is doing the legwork. Plus the way Tonya's lawsuit read made it seem like there was no difference between TRW and the Challenges when it was laying out her relationship with them. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong (though this probably belongs in the generic thread).
Just to further elaborate on the audition process , here is an excerpt from an Interview Devyn did DS: It's kind of just a funny story. Ironically enough, I met some Real World-ers about a year ago doing a New Year's party. We'd flown them to Tampa, Florida, where I went to college (the University of South Florida), to host a party. I met them and thought, if they can do it, eh, why not give it a shot? Who knows, who cares? So I sent in a video online, and it's about a six-month process, because hundreds of thousands of people audition, and they pick seven. I started the audition in January, and on May 13th I got the call that I made it. That's, of course, after every two weeks having something that I needed to do for them.

She is overstating the number of applicants for a season by a bunch. Jon Murray said they get about 20K applicants per season in his interview here: Jonathan Murray Interview | Archive of American Television It is a long interview--about 3 1/2 hours total, but I'd watch it if I were going to audition to get an idea of what types of things they look for
1. Can anyone anonymously share how far along they are in the process? 2. Does anyone know when semi-finals will take place? 3. Any leads as to whether this season will be filming this fall or next spring?

Season 28 seems to have a sort of, "up in the air" feeling. Especially, when it comes to the casting. I know someone that made it to the one on one camera interview at the hotel. They made their home tape and uploaded it to Youtube. Next, they were emailed and told to remove it. Now, that person is still waiting. Other than that, I know nothing.

Perhaps because this is the last season... Anyone know any other information?

Someone posted that they heard the next RW isn't supposed to tape until early next year. If that is true, then they are either in no hurry to cast people or they are relying on private casting primarily and have locked in the ones they need from that and are not under the gun for others IMO.

I'm not sure if they are just taking their time or being really good at hiding it this time. I think it is the first.

Sorry for potentially dumb question..
What does that mean exactly - private casting? Sorry for potentially dumb question..
^^^what Molds said. Dustin said in an interview he knew somebody who knew somebody that got him in with them and Jon Murray makes reference to Emily from DC being asked to interview after they found her working in a Starbucks near the audition site. Jon's American Academy of TV interview available on youtube makes specific reference to not everyone coming through the open auditions is who ends up being cast. Most are though from what I can tell.

Too many things are overplayed and underplayed or not shown.
I'm not sure if it was legit or not but I saw a party flyer saying the next real world was n Orlando. Has anyone heard anything on this?

I think BMP is under the gun with hard deadlines to launch its new youth-oriented (13-34) TMZ type online news/entertainment show and a daytime celebrity-hosted Nurse co-hosted hospital talk show for ABC (not kidding) so they are more on auto-pilot with The Real World at this point.
