The first game of the ALCS also had about 2 hours of rain delays in the middle of it.
That's a good point. Let's hope for better.

The Red Sox need new blood from the top down and the Cubs need a guy that is a proven front office winner. Plus...maybe we can send Lackey to the Cubs as part of the deal along with his salary. All of it! ;) P.s We'll Take Castro off the Cubs if the Lackey thing doesn't work out, lol.
Some guy in the crowd at Comerica just got drilled in the head with a bat. That would suck.
Josh Hambone is known to flip bats like that. Hope hes okay, at least he got to keep the bat.
It is interesting that the Sox are out of the playoffs yet take up 1/4 of every hour of sportscenter each morning. Actually, just sad. I was really hoping the Tigers would make up for earlier events today...boy was I wrong. What a **** poor showing.
I was really hoping the Tigers would make up for earlier events today...boy was I wrong. What a **** poor showing.
It was a brutal 3rd.
It was a brutal 3rd.
There's still hockey season, right? :D
There's still hockey season, right?
I mostly watched the Bruins tonight (after the ALCS got out of hand.) Can't go wrong with hockey!
I mostly watched the Bruins tonight (after the ALCS got out of hand.) Can't go wrong with hockey!
Yeah, I switched to the Wings game myself. At least someone won today...
Nelson Cruz hit 6 homers in the ALCS. In case anyone was wondering, that is only 4 fewer than Alex Rodriguez has hit in his entire post season CAREER.
A-Rod has 13 postseason home runs not 10.
I went to the game, it was sick. Michael Young only player in the LCS to have multiple base hits in 1 inning. Looks like rangers might take it this year.
Nelson Cruz hit 6 homers in the ALCS. In case anyone was wondering, that is only 4 fewer than Alex Rodriguez has hit in his entire post season CAREER.
Cruz's great Alcs comes after having a worse Alds than Arod. Then people wonder why I ignore these small sample sizes.
David Ortiz in pinstripes? Maybe that Sportscenter commercial wasn't that far off...
Cute commercial, lol. Honestly, I don't think he is that serious about the Yankees. It is just a negotiating tactic. For the type of money he wants, the Sox would probably be better off making a play for Fielder.
The way this St. Louis game is going the final score will be 15-10...maybe more.
Boston Red Sox's John Lackey to have Tommy John surgery Finally, good news! Oh ya, there is that world series thing happening. I guess I am pulling for the AL team.
Oh ya, there is that world series thing happening. I guess I am pulling for the AL team.
**** that. I'm rooting for the Cards.
**** that. I'm rooting for the Cards.
I never understood why people root opposite their league in the World Series. You should want to be the 2nd best team in the better league not the 2nd best team in the worse league.
I never understood why people root opposite their league in the World Series. You should want to be the 2nd best team in the better league not the 2nd best team in the worse league.
I'm not just rooting against them because they beat my Tigers. I have a personal dislike for the entire state of Texas. With that comes a dislike for their sports teams, including the Rangers. I'm not rooting against the Rangers...I'm rooting against the entire state. Well, I'd prefer to say that I'm rooting for the Cardinals. I do like the Austin bar scene. That's about it.
I never understood why people root opposite their league in the World Series. You should want to be the 2nd best team in the better league not the 2nd best team in the worse league.
I think it depends... I'll never root for the Yankees in the World Series, ever. During the Subway Series I was "forced" to pull for the Mets which was somewhat ironic as a Red Sox fan who bawled his eyes out in '86. The reality is I rarely see National League teams and thus don't actively hate any of them, versus the team (Yankees) we play 18 or 19 times a year in which every game has the hype of a World Series game 7. This season, I really don't care who wins, so I default to the AL team. I never run into Ranger fans so the result will have little consequence on me. Now if it was the Yankees v. Cards I would have a vested interest in rooting for the Cards being I can't stand Yankee fans and I'd have to personally deal with their relentless, classless gloating for an entire year. So in other words, I don't think who a given person pulls for in a sporting championship is black and white being there are many factors that could figure in to the decision.
I don't see any problem with having 1 team to root for in each league. Obviously you'd favor one slightly over the other in any regular-season and WS games. I root for the Cards over any team other than the Red Sox, because I lived in St. Louis for 7 years before moving to Texas and the only post-season/WS baseball games I've ever had the opportunity to attend were Cards games. Also, I work with quite a few Rangers fans so it's nice to be able to do some back and forth bantering with fans who actually have some respect for what the opponent has accomplished (unlike the generally unintelligible Yankees brand of fan).

The Boston Globe and Chicago Tribune skipped coverage of Game 5, opting not to replace news reporters dispatched to cover news conferences involving the Red Sox's and Cubs' new general managers. "Boston is one of the most provincial towns in the country when it comes to their sports teams," Globe baseball columnist Nick Cafardo said. "And right now, nobody cares about the World Series in Boston."

Amid high drama, low ratings serve as Series caveat.
Baseball does a terrible job at marketing itself which is why they have fallen behind the NBA in terms of popularity which does a great job at marketing itself. If MLB doesn't make everyone in the country root for or against a team in the World Series even if the Sox, Yankees, or Cubs (they would draw unbelievable numbers if they ever made it) aren't in it then they will begin to drop down to the ranks of hockey where it becomes very regional and only diehard fans watch it.
I'm not sure how much marketing has to do with it. Everyone in the country knows what baseball is, and knows it's on TV for half the year. If they aren't compelled to watch it now, a savvy marketing campaign isn't likely to change anything (the same situation I think shows like The Real World are in, because everyone I talk to knows the show is still on, they just don't care to watch it). At the risk of altering the traditions of the game for better or worse, I feel the best way to draw more people into MLB is to make it more accessible: possibly a shorter season, or games which don't last 4+ hours. To play off the other side however, I can't really recall seeing commercials featuring prominent MLB players in the recent past. I know these guys have endorsement deals so why am I not seeing more commercials for cologne or whatever featuring baseball players (Jeter)? There is room for improvement in the public awareness arena.
