Just chiming in to confirm that your sense of direction is indeed spot-on, molds13. I both live in PB and enjoy surfing at Tourmaline (it's a locals' surf spot about 1.5 blocks south of the RW house, where Tourmaline St. dead-ends at the water). jsb1904 - If you look at the south picture closely, you can see Crystal Pier in the distance, which I'm sure you recognize as being where Garnet hits the water in central PB. The picture to the north simple shows the houses on the rocky jutting that hides our view of the rest of Bird Rock. In case you were curious, that Tourmaline surf spot is also the only easy way for them to get down to the beach, as it's only rocky cliffs as you head north for quite a ways after that Tourmaline entrance. If you're so inclined, you *can* climb down said cliffs -- I've done it twice drunkenly, and survived, but it's certainly no easy jaunt. I'm somewhat surprised, though, that MTV would pick such a quiet, family area, as compared to PB proper, which is *significantly* more rowdy ;) Plus there are houses right on the sand instead of being atop 50 foot cliffs (nice view, though), providing easy access to the beach and its shenanigans. Oh, and the tennis court would have made little sense unless there used to be hidden netting, too. Really good players are quite skilled at hitting the ball where their opponent isn't, which means balls off the cliff. Similarly, really bad players aren't at all good at hitting it where they're aiming, which also means balls off the cliff. Not that I'm saying chess makes much more sense... I would have bet on a lounge area or an above-ground hot tub, personally!

If the cast is able to walk right out onto the public beach then the public is able to walk right up to the house. They are filming a tv show after all and as you can see, the public doesn't always make it easy to do so. I think production picked this house because it was available and fit their needs space wise, in a location they had more control over and was still very close to a lot of the attractions one would find in the Pacific Beach area. It leads to the rockier end but it's usually a less crowded entrance. I'm sure they will use both access points.

Still, it's a mile on foot just to get to Garnet according to googlemaps, 1.3 miles by car, and even further if you want past Mission & Garnet -- guess that's a trade-off they were willing to make to keep us riff-raff away from the house ;) I certainly won't be making that walk on a regular basis, just to see what's going on over there, so mission accomplished, MTV. It being so rocky over there, I wasn't even aware of that second set of stairs.

I was looking at the pics and thinking well this is a very nice house, but I didn't fall in love with it until I saw what was on the roof...a tennis court!!!! haha, I'm so jealous, my dream house would be just like this one!! lol....San Diego how I love you so!!
