Id put my money on season 26 being The Real World: Manhattan for the shows 30th anniversary.
Id put my money on season 26 being The Real World: Manhattan for the shows 30th anniversary.
I'll take you up on that bet, since season 26 is The Real World: Back to San Diego.
At least she got to actually be on Rivals and compete for the money. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the reason she got "screwed" the first time off of FM2 was because she lost her passport?
Not what I was talking about. I stated that, in my opinion, it wouldn't be that great to have a partner challenge as your first challenge, and unfortunately for her, the two that she was on (or supposed to be on) were the two partner challenges, and not CutThroat.

Neither of us have been on the show so we can't comment first hand what it's like. This is getting a tad off-topic. All I hope the Challenges get renewed - individual or partner challenges. I need this show in my life!
I'll take you up on that bet, since season 26 is The Real World: Back to San Diego.
Plus its not the shows 30th anniversary. Isn't is just 20 years this year?
Plus its not the shows 30th anniversary. Isn't is just 20 years this year?
The 20th anniversary will be in May 2012.
I'll take you up on that bet, since season 26 is The Real World: Back to San Diego.
Sorry I think I must have been totally out of it when posting that I meant the 20th anniversary and the 27th season.
I think if the challenges are renewed then the next challenge would be filmed in late August early September.
I think if the challenges are renewed then the next challenge would be filmed in late August early September.
Your principal assumption being that MTV would issues a continuation contract in which the schedule and delivery would be pretty much consistent with past deliveries and generic air dates. What if you are wrong?
The 20th anniversary will be in May 2012.
Yeah-ye-ah (Malibu Most Wanted voice). So excited but they better not go back to NY anymore, for heaven's sake.
Plus its not the shows 30th anniversary. Isn't is just 20 years this year?
No. It premiered May 16 (?) 1992, this is the 19th year. If only they took breaks in between airings.
I need this show in my life!
I agree with this assessment.
Your principal assumption being that MTV would issues a continuation contract in which the schedule and delivery would be pretty much consistent with past deliveries and generic air dates. What if you are wrong?
Do you think that they will make an official announcement regarding the future of the Challenge series at some point? Or are they more likely to just let it phase out and hope that no one notices? I would imagine that if they weren't going to renew the show, they would put a great deal of emphasis on the fact that this is the last one, like a series finale of sorts.
SOrry if this has already been asked, but since it seems that the "back to" seasons locations are based upon the ratings of previous season at that location, where are the two or three best choices for the following back to season?

What if you are wrong?
Does this mean that they are looking at putting the show on the shelf for awhile or canceling it altogether or what?
Does this mean that they are looking at putting the show on the shelf for awhile or canceling it altogether or what?
No, it means no one knows what's going to happen. The best guess they are waiting to see the ratings on the first couple of episodes of Rivals, to decide if they want more seasons. But for all we know they have already decided to not renew the contract and just haven't/won't announced it.

At the risk of being yelled at, I wish they would shelf it for a few years and bring back Road Rules and get a whole new talent pool going and really think of new ways to freshen up the Challenges.

And Rivals will just be good for having a drama rating and that way get better ratings. Even if they were using bad seasons formats right now though I still wouldn't want them to put the challenges on hold for a few years cause these shows are great fun.
It's crazy because people who I know for a fact don't watch the Challenges or the Real World are actually going to tune into this one. That just makes hope for the show a little bit more promising.
Does this mean that they are looking at putting the show on the shelf for awhile or canceling it altogether or what?
You're asking me? I have no reliable info, but what I was really suggesting is that since MTV has obviously been considering their options, why not consider that they are thinking completely outside the box? The Rival format demonstrates significant evolution from the past. Perhaps they will tell BMP that they want to continue evolving the format, and maybe part of the evolution underway will include a different kind rotation than RW followed by Challenge followed by RW, etc, etc.

MTV scheduling is really weird, but it is getting that way on several networks. Its like we went from having 1 TV season to 2 TV seasons, to having whatever they can plaster on the screen in no logical arrangement.
If the challenges will be able to continue... here is my guess: Season 22 - The Duel 3 Season 23 - The Ruins 2 Season 24 - NEW IDEA Season 25 - CutThroat 2 Season 26 - Rivals 2 Season 27 - Fresh meat 3 <...> Real world: Season 27 Back to Miami Season 28 Back to Chicago

Also, I see Rivals as being a one time thing like the Island. Not because it will bomb, but because pairing people again will be annoying if there are repeat pairs and finding 12-14 new pairs would be even more of a stretch than some of the ones we have now...
Ya'll think they would do 2 beach cities back to back? I'm thinking Chicago next.
Ya'll think they would do 2 beach cities back to back?
I think he's saying he doesn't think they'd do two beach cities back to back, because a previous poster mentioned Miami.
Yea, I was saying I don't think Miami would be next because of 2 beach cities back 2 back.
If they do any more RW's in Cali or NY I just might throw up. And no more Vegas...I mean I liked all seasons (3 technically) but living in a suite is boring and there's not much to do when they are confined to hotel nightclubs.

After RW: Back to San Diego they should do RW: Still in San Diego. It will throw people off the hunt because when people are complaining about the RW cast in San Diego, others will think they are talking about the season already aired.
Real World Tijuana?
If the next challenge isn't the duel, then I want a new format where it's Real World vs Road Rules vs Fresh Meat or Old School vs New School. I think those 2 formats would bring a lot of old players back.
