So You Think You Can Dance: Season 8
Anyone watching the new season starting tonight? I'm really excited for the show to be back and to have Mary Murphy on the judging panel again. She may make my ears bleed now and then but I did miss her and the hot tamale train last year.

I'll be DVRing it! Unless I can convince Mr. OPD to watch it with me "live". So....I'll be DVRing it! ;)
Haha, well it's not like there is anything else on!
I have it DVRing and will watch it when I get back from Alabama. I did miss Mary even though she was annoying most of the time.
Missed it. Porbably won't watch since its rumored to be anothe all star season.
It's not another full all-star. As far as I know, they are having a Top 20 of new contestants then when it gets down to Top 10 they will bring in some all stars to dance with the contestants. I don't believe they have announced who the all stars are yet though.
Yeah they have yet to pick the all stars. Nigel said he wants to watch and see what the final 10 is shaping up to be so he can pick All stars that will accent them and make them better.
That's exactly what I don't want to happen. I didn't really like the All Star concept as much. Ugh.

I didn't like the All Star format at all either. Though, I did like the opening auditions and was really impressed with the dancers out of Atlanta. San Fran, not so much... Other thoughts?
Okay night on the show. No one really stood out to me as a favorite. I found myself being more impressed with the people they sent to choreography instead of the ones strait to Vegas. The "Ringo Starr" girl was funny at first but when they visited her house it became a little much and I just felt bad for her.

I also agree on the ones that they sent straight through to Vegas. They just didn't really impress me as much as some that they sent to choreography. The first episode seems to take the cake in talent over the one from last night.

What is that about? I would not pick up the phone for the whacking girl just because she moved her arms super fast. How do you know she has any rhythm in her feet? She hardly moved them. Ah well. One good thing about SYTYCD is that they move quickly through auditions and don't drag it out like Idol. We get to find out the Top 20 next week!

I would have sent the amnesia girl over her. Btw, that was so sad to here that girls story. It's unbelievable that she was there dancing after getting amnesia only 3 weeks prior and not being able to remember her own name when it happened. On the other note, I am also glad they don't make these auditions overkill. SYTYCD shows only around 3-5 horrible people per episode, plus a montage of people being idiots (which I'm happy about, I would rather see the good ones), whereas Idol shows pretty much every single bad person that ever decided to audition.

What to have her forget her moves, lol. I bet she was faking it like the "Beatles girl". I'm tired of the cue-the-violin stories.
Ah well. One good thing about SYTYCD is that they move quickly through auditions and don't drag it out like Idol. We get to find out the Top 20 next week!
Only because they been doing it this season. That's all. Also, I had a question about this season but I forgot what I was going to say. Also how did the 31 year old make it through when the cut-off age is like 28/29 years of age? So far the black guy/white girl routine with the box and the one with Melanie and Marko have been pretty lame. Don't tell me they showed all the good people already?

Are you talking about the ballroom blonde chick? And on your last topic, I think most of the dancers have been pretty good so far, with Melanie and Marko having the best dance so far.
Some guy named Robert Taylor Jr. Wow I just realized how mean I sound, lol. Normally well at least in season 4 they have two to two and a half weeks of auditions then Vegas. This one just had vegas like the 4th and 5th episode.

Haha. I do like it that way better because I would rather them get down to the wire faster than dragging out the audition process.
Me 2. I think Idol stretches it out because they have more people competing, IMO.
I must also add that I'm glad Mary Murphy is back. She annoys me when she's there, but then when she was gone last season I missed her. She just cracks me up.

I don't really miss her because she was boring during auditions and Vegas and I don't like the Pussycat Dolls but I thought she was supposed to be a permanent judge. I'm only two dances in but so far Megan Mullally, who I've always liked, is doing a pretty good job as judge.

I only watched the first hour and DVR'd the rest. Sacha (sp?) is definitely one of my favorites. I've loved watching her all through the auditions with her sister and I think she'll go far. She is so slender and tiny yet she's got some crazy muscle definition not to mention her personality rocks! Jordan and Yvetta were also favorites of mine through auditions, though I thought Jordan did ok last night, I expected her to do better. I haven't seen Yvetta's yet, but I don't mind being spoiled if someone wants to tell me what her dance was for last night? :) I'll have more to say later after I re-watch the full 2 hours. ALSO! Sidenote: This. Is. Amazing....Mr.OPD has not only started watching this show with me now, but...he LOVES it!! LoL he actually really enjoys watching the dancing and says it's "Way better than Idol" (which I haven't watchced in years, but whatever). *YAY*! No more watching in secret alone!! :p

Sasha and Alexander did Contemporary by Travis Wall. Clarice and Jess did Broadway by Tyce Diorio. Ryan and Ricky did Lyrical Hip-Hop by Christopher Scott. Caitlynn and Robert (from season 7, who replaced Mitchell who had an injury) did Jazz by Sonya Tayeh. Miranda and Robert did a Jive by Jason Gilkison. Missy and Wadi did Jazz by Sean Cheesman. Melanie and Marko did Contemporary by Travis Wall. Ashley and Chris did Hip-Hop by Christopher Scott. Iveta and Nick did a Quickstep by Jason Gilkison.
Bests of the night for me were Melanie and Marko, Clarice and Jess, Caitlyn and Robert and Iveta and Nick. It's all nitpicking though because it really is a strong group this year. I will say that my two least favorites were actually the hip hop routines. I think it was more of a choreography problem and the new guy figuring out what works best on this stage and for this program. He's used to doing choreography for large groups, right? If so, it might be a little harder for him to just use two people.

I looooved Sascha and Alexander's literal ***-kicking performance by Travis. But I've always loved Travis and his work. My biggest "dislikes" this season are definitely Ryan (our #1 dislike) and probably Miranda and Missy. Ryan I think is just REALLY over-rated and I think the only reason she made it is because she came so close before. There is such a thing as smiling too much. It just looked silly that she was grinning from ear to ear during a dance that was supposed to be sad and heartlfet. And Miranda and Missy, well, I just barely remember them from the auditions so that may be why I haven't warmed up to them.

Tater had just commented about the choreographer from League of Extraordinary Dancers. He did an awesome group number last week but his partner choreography wasn't as good. Aaaand then I switched gears to this week to talk about how awesome I thought Alexander and Sascha were. Got it? ;)

I haven't really liked Ryan at all, even since last season. The other two seem to be fillers and I probably couldn't point them out in a crowd if I tried. I know they keep saying that a girl will probably win this year, but I'm kind of hoping one of the guys steps up and win.
Aww. I must be the only one that likes Ryan. I do agree that her smiling was weird and I'm glad the judges pointed it out. When she tried to explain why it seemed more like she misunderstood the character or wasn't as good at portraying it than someone like Kent from last season who just loved hamming it up, ugh! I'm much more annoyed with Robert and his ******* wooing! Just stop it already. It's not cute or funny. It's annoying. I agree OPD, that the choreographers group routine from last week was FABULOUS which is why I was a little disappointed with his two routines this week. I think he is just used to groups and needs a few more routines to really work out the differences with a pair. I'm super excited for Sonya's group routine tonight though!
Surprisingly remember most of these and agree with the choices :D So You Think You Can Dance | 'So You Think You Can Dance': 25 Best Performances Ever | Photo 1 of 25 | EW.com

I don't agree with the number 1 choice however. It's good and Alex did an amazing job but it's not my number 1, maybe 6ish. They mentioned in the comments about the Kayla and Kupono "Addiction" dance that they thought Tyce's "Cancer" dance was overpraised (not enough to not even make the list though! c'mon!) and for me I think that hip hop routine is overpraised. It's all opinion though and lists are never perfect. ;)

Sonya is her name. I like her routines a lot. I don't like Ryan, but she could have saved herself if she said she imagined that his memories of his girlfriend would have been happy times they spent together.... but what she said made her sound even more clueless I think.
