I haven't chimed in on this thread in some time (nor has anyone else.)
Izzy is not as missed as I would have thought. The show is still good. The focus has changed, but I can say that all the episodes since the new year have been engaging. It is almost like a mini rebirth.
Not enough to bring new fans in, but I think enough to keep those that love the show to continue to watch.
Tonight's episode was particularly engaging for me. I appreciated the feel and hope that the series continues on this path.
Yay! I'm excited for tonight's now. :)
I have been overall impressed with this season as a whole, and yes especially since the new year (Callie? PREGNANT?! with Mark?!).
You probably just like this season B because it's had a lot less Mer. :D
EDIT: With the exception of this episode it seems.
Tonight's episode was indeed a good one and they have been I think ever since Cristina has come back to the hospital. I definitely don't miss Izzy at all and I'm loving the new Alex.
Hands down the second half of this season is by far way better than the first and I hope it continues. From the previews for next week's it looks intense.
New Grey's tonight!! Finally something other than a sport to watch and actually something new, even though basketball does come on again.
*Squee!* I'm excited too! I'm on the west coast though so I have a few more hours. Gonna stay out of this thread until then. :p

I actually just got done watching it so you probably saw it before I did, but I thought it was one of the the best episodes in a while. The only thing I don't really like at this point is the April/Stark relationship and the Adele/Richard thing made me cry like a small child. I'm also really glad that Cristina is finally back to her old bad *** self because sulky, un-motivated Cristina was horrible. And the ending, WHYYYYYY?
I'm kind of nervous about next week's musical event episode because i don't really know how they are going to pull it off and I hope it doesn't completely bomb.

Turning Grey's into Glee? It has already bombed for me. I'll probably just read the wikipedia summary...
From the previews I have seen, I think the musical episode looks really neat. They're doing it well from what I can tell so far.
Major bummer at the end of Thursday's ep. I don't have a good feeling about Callie's baby. :( I really hope they both pull through. Arizona on the other hand, well, I wouldn't have cared so much if it were her flying through the windshield...

I couldnt agree more!!!
I've had my doubts about this whole musical episode for a while, but after seeing the previews I'm kind of excited...

You and me both. Arizona's character has bugged me from the beginning. Such a shame when they replace really good characters (Addison/George) with ones that are boring (Teddy/Arizona).

If you like musicals. I don't.
I will probably record the episode and then fast forward through all the singing to stay with the story line (or maybe just hit mute and play tower defense on my laptop.) In the end it is a throw away episode in my book and it is really too bad they are taking the current momentum and throwing it down the drain and what could have been an amazingly powerful episode.

I think the shark graphic is a little unfair. I don't think they're jumping shark. It is a concept they have been talking about for years, and were waiting for the right time to do it. In the preview special I watched, the castmembers say themselves that the were really excited for this episode, and that it is mostly done as a tribute to the fans. Of which most fans I think will appreciate.
Besides, I'll take one episode of singing over a whole season of ghost-sex any day. :p
I think the shark graphic is a little unfair.
True. The shark Grey's jumped has probably already died of natural causes by now, lol.
Still, in two years when we hear that Shonda is leaving the show and its future is up in the air, everyone will come back to this episode and say, "Ah yes, the beginning of the end. That final push toward the edge of the cliff."
It's not Glee and I like most of the music.
The content is what is holding the show together. I feel that the style (musical-esque) is distracting. If it was just "Callie Ghost" it would be fine, but random people busting into lyrics in the OR is strange to say the least. Especially when the lip sync is off.
p.s. I am playing Tower Defense and winning. Winning big!
p.s.s. I've only fast forwarded through about 20 minutes thus far.

I will come up and admit that my doomsday predictions were a bit harsh. It is a good episode thus far. Not a series killer, although I wish they would have approached this differently.
I really enjoyed the music on tonight's episode (I'm still waiting for them to bring back the theme song), but I definitely did not like the way it was acted out at all. It's so strange to me and something they probably never should have done in the first place.
Some of them are clearly meant to stay only actors *coughLexiecough* and have no future in a singing career. And I think we get that Callie can sing (the Christmas song she did that one time proved that) and it definitely would have been better had it only been ghost Callie singing.
The only part I really loved was that I got to see Kate Walsh again, just wish it was in a normal episode.
In the end, I think I watched about 14 minutes worth of show. It started off interesting and then it fell apart. I basically just kept hitting my +30 button to forward though. I hit that button so many times, my thumb is sore.
It was as bad as I thought it would be. Maybe worse. A complete waste of an episode.

I know. I'd love to see her back in a real episode!

Second worst episode of the season with the first being the documentary one. That one I didn't even make it through at all (I believe I made it 10 minutes before I changed the channel). I stopped my Prison Break marathon on Netflix for this episode and it was SO not worth it.

It's tough for me. As much as I hated the documentary episode, I remember that I could at least surf the internet and let it go on in the background. With this one, I had to take action to make it stop...
I was initially bummed that I forgot to set my DVR. I've become a new fan of the show. (My very first episode was last year's season finale. Talk about keeping me on the edge of my seat.) Now that I know it was actually a musical, and the actors were singing (and God forbid dancing?) I'm not really that worried about it.
Someone wanna hit me up via text/PM and let me know if whats her face actually died?
My friends were destroying this episode on Facebook.
With that being said...it's just another reason for me to stop watching. The show just isn't the same anymore...

While these are mixed for journalistic purposes, I now go back to thinking it is a show killer episode. Literally the worst episode in the history of the show. I'd rather have ghosts than bad uncomfortable lip sync.
Who thought this was a good idea?
I couldn't have written it better myself. Heck, it is almost like I did write it! ;)

Ok...here goes nothing...
I liked it. I liked it a lot! Now I'll explain why.
First of all, I only got second-hand embarrasement once, which is good since I anticipated it being an extremely awkward experience to watch. It was when Owen started bursting out singing, because for a second, a forgot the premise of the episode. Moving on...
I LOVED the "Tripping on Sunshine" montage. YES it was cheesy, YES it was somewhat out of place. But I still really liked it. I was really impressed with Alex (Justin Chambers) singing! I was like **** if you can sing like that you can throw me naked around a trailer any day. Also best part of this bit? Christina isn't singing because she is going down on Owen. Hee! Also, I loved Bailey and the Nurses little dance.
Callie (Sara Ramirez) did amazing, though I'm sure most people expected that. She really belted it out at the end and it was a beautiful and fitting song for that moment. I'm really not a fan of the Arizona character at all, but I think she (Jessica Capshaw) did a really great job acting. In fact, I think the acting was really great all around (other than having to act/sing at the same time).
I also really loved Mer's breakdown in the elevator, it was such a great scene and we don't get to see her act that way too often.
So there, I loved this episode, and I plan on watching it again.
Here is my final thought on the matter and I'll use an analogy...
Let's say every week for the last 6+ years I want to the local park with friends. It had a beautiful pond with ducks and lots of grassy areas where people would picnic and play Frisbee in the sun. This week we go and find that all the trees have been leveled, the pond drained and in its place a giant cement bowl for skateboard enthusiasts. Well, it just happens that a couple of my friends in the group love skateboarding and they think it is the best thing ever. The problem is the rest of us hate skateboarding.
In effect, we all loved going to the park together but if it is a skate park then most of us won't bother going anymore and the fact that the city made this decision to level the trees and put in a skate park at the peak of summer when we all just wanted to picnic and play Frisbee, ****** us off.
Last week's episode of Grey's Anatomy was a skate park. It was an episode where if you love musicals you might like it, but if you didn't it was probably the worst episode in the entire series. For me, I've watched every episode aired in this series. This is the first time I've fast forwarded through more than I watched, because it was absolutely horrible.
Your favorite part, was the worst part. I skipped that entirely and it was the point in the episode when I thought I'd just delete the recording, but held off as I wanted to absorb the plot points and move on.
If you want to watch Glee, it is on Fox. I personally have no issues with Glee, beyond I don't want to watch it. I want to watch Grey's Anatomy. To pull this stunt with such an important episode was not only a horrible idea, it disrespected long time fans that just want Grey's to be Grey's - not a gimmick.
Here's the thing. The skate park didn't "appear overnight". It was talked about, planned, and promoted so that those that maybe weren't into skating could skip the park that night all together. It certainly wasn't sprung on anyone out of nowhere.
Also, no one ever tried to say that the skate park was a permanent change, but just something that some might consider fun and would be willing to try once. Sure it's a big change, but it's just for fun, and no one is tearing down trees and killing birds. The park will be restored. :p
Also, I don't watch Glee, and though I was in choir throughout high school and college, I'm not a musical fanatic. I think it was meant to be somewhat campy, and so it was. I (really) don't think it will ever happen again.
