how can you say that? They promoted the **** out of jersey shore.
That's the point. They are promoting Jersey Shore because thats the show they want... thats the show that makes the ratings...
Maybe the low ratings are due to the fact that the competitors/characters aren't as appealing as they used to be. Clearly people prefer the Coral, Veronica, Alton, CT crowd over the Kenny, Evan, Wes, Johnny crowd. And the whole misogynistic, arrogant vibe they give off gets old quick. With the older players, it was more Real World/Road Rules-ish whereas now it's more The Hills-ish where we know people are playing up for the camera.

The newer castmembers play it up for the cameras TOO MUCH. Seriously, if I hear Kenny refer to himself as "Mr. Beautiful" I'll go nuts. All Wes did in the beginning was run around the house screaming...that's not really entertaining, its more annoying. Like when David was screaming in BOTS1 about puck..so glad he went home in the 1st episode! I don't want to watch people acting up on camera the whole time, I wanna see real drama and real interactions like it was before.
Good thing the ratings didn't go below 1 million this week.
I am probably not remembering this correctly, but I thought the episodes where Ev and Wes went home during the Ruins were two of the higher rated episodes of that season. Now that Wes is gone, next week's episode should be a real test.
They're showing a couple of reruns too! Hopefully it rises.
Lets just hope that the challenge 20 cast will be good and boost these ratings!
Hey everyone!! I'm new at this so please don't think I'm a complete idiot!!! :) But how do they come up with the ratings?
Hey everyone!! I'm new at this so please don't think I'm a complete idiot!!! :) But how do they come up with the ratings?
The amount of viewers.
but how do they track the viewers? I record everything on DVR, then watch it because I can't stand commercials!
but how do they track the viewers? I record everything on DVR, then watch it because I can't stand commercials!
Oh I don't know. That is something you should ask one of the mods. And welcome to Vevmo!
but how do they track the viewers? I record everything on DVR, then watch it because I can't stand commercials!
its a long and difficult process to explain but I had to do a project and report on it for a mass communications class. There's something called the Nielson ratings they randomly select families in certain demographics and gives them a contraption to go on each tv in the house, the host family records, who watched what and report back to Nielson at the end of every day. You get paid a cheap stipend for each week you do it. In 2004, they paid families like 100 bucks a week.

Episode 8 Ratings Real World Road Rules Challenge - 0.934 million viewers - 0.7/1 HH - 0.6/2 A18-49 - 1.1/3 W18-34
Well 10 minutes of it can be blamed on American Idol The other 50 though....hahaha
Oh ****.
AHHH! First time EVER under 1 mill!?
AHHH! First time EVER under 1 mill!?
Don't forget it isn't about the total viewers (that is for bragging rights) but the - 0.6/2 A18-49 (which is what advertisers pay for...) Anyone feel like charting those number out for this season and making comparisons to the last two? (I'm watch baseball, heh.)
Watching the Mets/Phillies game Bacchus? :D Can anybody explain to me what 0.6/2 A18-49 means?
I've done a graph, only for The Ruins and FM2, since the Duel 2 thread isn't as nicely laid out as far as finding the ratings, and I was trying to be quick (I'm at work). I also only did total viewership since I have no idea how to interpret 0.6/2 and compare that to 1.1/3 or whatever. Not really sure what that means. Anyway, pretty obvious how bad FM2 is doing... I think they should count the second airing too...for one, unless you're obsessed with the show, you wouldn't watch it twice in a row. And, for two, I've talked to a lot of people that say when they watch the show, they watch the second airing because they're busy when the first one is on. So more people may be watching the show, but they just don't count them.
I honestly think the premiere of the ruins was pretty high because they really showcased a good story that was long waited (Wes/Johanna/Kenny). I also know a lot of old school viewers tuned in because of bringing back old favorites (Syrus, Susie, Veronica, Darrell). You know people are way knew to this show when people have to ask who Ibis is. I think the cast and Wes' story was the reasoning behind the good numbers for the ruins. It was clear from day 1 that fresh meat 2 would be a fail since they didnt have "favorites". I mean are Paula, Jenn, Ryan, and Danny really anyones favorite?

And the Ruins is significantly higher than FM2... but when the Ruins was airing, the same comments were all through the thread... "these ratings are terrible!" "they're going to cancel the series now" etc. Basically, the Ruins didn't get high ratings. The Ruins got bad ratings, and FM2 is getting REALLY bad ratings.

Thanks CharR. That graph tells a story, but we still need the full story. The ratings picture is complex because, sadly total viewers mean next to nothing. Example, Tuesday night: NBC Parenthood (finale) 2.7 7 6.321 CBS The Good Wife (finale) 2.0 6 10.805 The Good Wife was CRUSHED by Parenthood (even though Parenthood's numbers were disappointing to NBC.) The last number is total viewers and the first, the prime demo rating. CBS skews old and thus many of their viewers are throw aways. That is why I want to further investigate the MTV numbers. If they are getting the right viewers, there might be a chance...
:o No!!!
NOOOO! aswell. are these ratings lower than the ratings from The Inferno III?
