I honestly think that it's a combination of both. I mean MTV doesn't promote the challenges like they do the other shows. And people maybe are just tuning out now.
It probably has to do with the shows not drawing in new viewers (lots of competition from other networks and their own shows), and older viewers falling off the bandwagon for whatever reason. People just get older and lose interest, it happens. I doubt it has much to do with the difference between so called "party" and "serious" seasons; most of us loyal viewers will watch whichever of the 2 BMP offers us.
Actually, it doesn't. Its only got over a 4 million once or twice.
Towards the end it got bigger. The average was 2.76. Thats good due to the time it was on. They beat the challenge, which was my point.
Episode 3 Ratings Real World Road Rules Challenge - 1.563 million viewers - 1.0/2 HH - 0.8/2 A18-49 - 1.7/5 W18-34 Increase of about 300,000 viewers! Thats good! Hopefully this continues!

Thats pretty decent but I don't have much hope for the challenge regardless.
I'm thinking that 16 and Pregnant's Life After Labor thing had to do with this. 16 and Pregnant: Life After Labor (8:30pm, 90 minutes) - 1.689 million viewers - 1.1/2 HH - 0.8/2 A18-49 - 1.9/6 W18-34 If so, I hope the viewers that watched the challenge got attached and continue to watch.

Damn a 1.6 for the re-run? Thats crazy.
Damn a 1.6 for the re-run? Thats crazy.
That wasn't a rerun, it was the Life after Labor special that aired at 8:30. It was 90 minutes and aired right before Fresh Meat 2. These were 16&P's episode ratings from Tuesday night. 16 and Pregnant (10pm) - 2.544 million viewers - 1.7/3 HH - 1.4/4 A18-49 - 3.3/9 W18-34

If it got a 1.6 on Wed, that make make 16 and pregnant a re-run. The life after labor reunion was on tuesday at 11. The finale was at 10, they put it on the same night.

Pretty good ratings considering American Idol ran way into the first half of the episode.
Yay!! Good job!! Im pumped.
So they get a pretty good increase in ratings and now all of a sudden they stop the re-runs. Smart move MTV.
I noticed that reruns were stopping too. I really don't understand the motivation behind it.

They are not worried about the challenge, they are more concerned with the Hills, which had a marathon of all five season over the weekend.
They are not worried about the challenge, they are more concerned with the Hills, which had a marathon of all five season over the weekend.
...in which watching The [Noun] is less interesting than watching two Skittles have sex. Actually, that'd be pretty interesting!
...in which watching The [Noun] is less interesting than watching two Skittles have sex. Actually, that'd be pretty interesting!
ummm wow lol
Hopefully the ratings will stay constant or rise this week.
No they didn't.
Exactly it was ****** advertising.
Episode 4 Ratings Real World Road Rules Challenge - 1.130 million viewers - 0.8/1 HH - 0.6/2 A18-49 - 1.4/4 W18-34
Maybe if MTV did a better job at promoting these things, the numbers would be better! >_< This show is too good for the ratings to be that...bleh. It amazes me that Duel 2, if I'm correct, got higher numbers. It wasn't a bad show at all, but nothing much went on that was memorable to me.
Won't be long before it gets under a million :(
Won't be long before it gets under a million :(
...and it's at the point where some good people are finally coming to these shows.
That's sad :( This show is actually pretty good.

Wow that is bad...
Y'know, this may not necessarily be a bad thing. On the one hand I keep thinking in the back of my mind, there's no way we'll see a day without a Real World. However on the other hand I feel as though it would be a welcomed sigh of relief. No more Real World or Challenges means that some of these people who have been doing this since their teens/early twenties would have to finally grow up and get real careers; no more milking the Z list dry. Hell, could you imagine Kenny trying to get a legit office job? "Hey ****, didn't you get that memo about the new TPS reports?. Matter of fact, that would be an amazing reality show of its own... I think it would be awesome to do a Challenge with Colie. Matter of fact, Colie, Ruthie, Coral, Evelyn, and Myself. That would be one ****** team right there.
LMAO. Am I really the only one who appreciates a good Office Space reference? Anyway, if they brought back Coral, they'd have to renew that contract because that's what everyone is dying to see. Let her take TJ's place... I don't care how, just bring her back. Coral may just save MTV. Just sayin'.... And Kate, put down the hallucinogens. Kenny's own show???? I hope I never live to see the day. I didn't think the numbers would be so bad. :-( Unfortunately, 16 and Pregnant does well because, well.. look around. All these kids have babies. It grosses me out that Morgan Freeman produces it as he has a thing for teen girls.... that are semi-related to him. Sick.

Morgan J. Freeman, a younger guy, produces these.
Wrong Morgan Freeman. Morgan J. Freeman, a younger guy, produces these.
Damn. Massive fail. Thanks for clearing it up. Still a morally bankrupt show but at least it's not produced by Chester the molester.
The ratings are down because this is the first challenge that doesn't include Tonya or Anessa since G3. 18: The Ruins - Tonya 17: The Duel 2 - Aneesa 16. The Island - Tonya 15. Gauntlet 3 - Neither 14. Inferno 3 - Both 13. The Duel - Aneesa 12. Fresh Meat - Tonya 11. Gauntlet 2 - Aneesa 10. Inferno 2 - Tonya 9. Battle of the Sexes 2 - Both 8. Inferno - Neither 7. Gauntlet - Tonya 6. Battle of the Sexes - Both And before that, their season hadn't aired yet. I bet if you look it up, the ratings were down for the seasons they weren't on... In all seriousness, even though I don't think the ratings are that low and that the show isn't in trouble, they are down overall because there are just too many of them. Instead of 2 a year, they need to have only 1 a year.
This is bad for the series... Yes Tonya and Aneesa weren't on Gauntlet 3, but it did have good ratings. So the fault is not that they didn't cast Tonya or Aneesa. I think it's more of the way the producers decided to handle things this time...
