So this is the RW: of Guidos and Guidettes, the house is very Real World.Theres something very RW about this show.
Yes, both shows involve people, a house, and booze. Oh, and dancing. ;)
Not to mention a job linked with being in the house/show, 8 people, cast confessionals.
This show is my guilty pleasure.. hilarious. Better recognize "The Situation".
I personaaly love this show it my second fave after The Real World. The Situation,DJ and Snooky are personal faves.
I love Snooki, Sammi, and Ronnie so far.
This is the best show on MTV by far and its barely the first episode! I like the varying ages in the house. I know Vinny is 21 and Pauly D is 29 which is amazing he looks way younger. Vinny is adorable and Pauly D is so hot with his piercing. This show is filled with drama, the season preview is crazy. Cant believe that guy punches her in the face like that.
those people trying to get this show off the air are ridiculous!!! Jordan from Big Brother is from the same state as me but we are nothing alike, you didn't see me trying to get Big Brother pulled. I didn't flip out on AI when Kellie Pickler was on.
How is it ridiculous, and how are Jordan and Kellie Pickler even close to the situation at hand? Jersey Shore is a show that, whether MTV intended to or not, pokes fun of the Italian-American community. Though Kellie and Jordan may have not been the brightest crayons in the box, they were never intentionally cast for that specific reason. All of these people were cast for specific reasons that enforce the stereotypes given to "guidos" and "guidettes". Your argument holds absolutely no water. I can absolutely see how groups like UNICO are offended by this show, but just because you hail from the same state is hardly a reason to try and get a show like BB or AI pulled. And don't even get me started that there's a 27 and a 29 year old on this show...you guys think people that age appear on too many challenges? These guys are appearing on our screens for the first time. Talk about needing to grow up. Oh, and did I mention that only one of them is actually from New Jersey?
The majority of the people who get a shore house at the jersey shore are not from New Jersey; however from the tri-state area. Like these people.
The majority of the people who get a shore house at the jersey shore are not from New Jersey; however from the tri-state area. Like these people.
I know that, but the people comparing them to Kenny do not.
I don't see what the big deal is... They are calling themselves Guidos... so if they don't have a problem with it why does everyone else?
I don't see what the big deal is... They are calling themselves Guidos... so if they don't have a problem with it why does everyone else?
BINGO! People are making way too big of a deal about this show. The people on the show dont have a problem with it, so it isnt that big of a deal. No one is forcing anyone to watch this show, if you dont like it, dont watch.
I don't see what the big deal is... They are calling themselves Guidos... so if they don't have a problem with it why does everyone else?
Because while they supposedly pride themselves in their Italian ancestry, the stereotype of the guido is actually pretty derogatory. I'm sure if they weren't running around fulfilling every stereotype of the guido or guidette, groups like UNICO wouldn't be so angry. They have such an issue with it because these people are supposed to be representing their culture and their "people" if you will, and they are doing a pretty awful job at it.

That is what they choose to call themselves, and others in their groups. I am sure they are not the only people in the world that refer to themselves as guido's and guidette's.

Someone asked why people are getting upset...I gave them a reason. The show was originally titled "Guide Shore" as well...

I snark, therefore I will continue to watch. :D
Funny thing.. this show wasnt even on my radar until the critics started to pile up.. so i checked out the first episodes, and now im in it for the long haul.. => controversy definetely has given it more exposure allowing it to reach more people, which obviously is just the contrary of what it's attackers wanted to accomplish.

I was saying that those people say that the show portrays italians in a bad light and makes them look bad. The names that I mentioned could be seen as putting a bad light on white people from NC. I could care less about what those people do, but I was making a point about how ridiculous it is to try to get the show pulled. It doesn't matter though because they are just wasting their time.

What has Kellie Pickler done? I'm confused.

'Jersey Shore' star 'The Situation' talks about MTV's controversial series | EW.com
MTV’s Jersey Shore premiered less than a week ago but already has been the subject of growing controversy. Italian-American groups, like UNICO, have blasted the series for what they perceive as a negative portrayal of Italian-Americans and the use of the words “guidos” and “guidettes.” UNICO is now asking for its members to complain to MTV’s advertisers and for the network to remove the series from its schedule. EW talked to Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino, one of the series’ cast members, about the controversy surrounding Jersey Shore, his new best friend Pauly D, and whether or not he’d do a second season. On his newfound reality fame: “I’ve only been out one night since the show aired and as soon as I walked into the bar it was pretty wild. People were like, ‘Oh my god that’s him. That’s The Situation.’ And then people asked me to take pictures and stuff like that.” On complaints that the show negatively portrays Italian-Americans: “This is what happens down here. It’s not a definition of the East Coast. It’s not a definition of Jersey or New York. It’s just a bunch of kids that happen to be partying and working and living together in New Jersey. Some of these people are trying to pretend like when you’re in your 20s and you’re single you don’t go out and have fun. Or you don’t go out and get a couple drinks. And when that happens you know there are gonna be a couple arguments. There are gonna be a couple fights. Life is not perfect.” On whether the terms “guido” and “guidette” are offensive: “No. No. If you do see the show, you see it used in a loving or a good way. The older generation doesn’t understand. These days in New York and New Jersey a ‘guido’ is a good-looking Italian male that likes to have fun and a ‘guidette’ is a good-looking Italian girl.” On becoming buddies with fellow castmate Pauly D: “I had an awesome experience with shooting and with MTV. I actually met a best friend on the show, Pauly D. Me and him are like best friends. His birthday is July 5th and mine is July 4th. His name is Pauly Michael and my name is Michael Paul. There are a lot of coincidences. We speak all the time to this day. I met a lifelong friend.” On whether he’d do another season: “Oh, of course. If America wants something like that, I’m sure we’ll be able to give it to them.”
And this is from another article to get an idea of where the other side is coming from:
Andre DiMino of UNICO, one of the Italian-American heritage organizations leading the current protest and the boycott effort, was offended by the program before he'd seen anything but the promotional material, but now that he's seen Thursday's premiere broadcast he's really angry. DiMino said that producers decorated the "bordello-like" beach house with Italian symbols to emphasize the Italian ancestry of castmembers, who he called "an embarrassment to themselves, their heritage and their families."
This show and True Life : Staten Island girls are one in the same..I did laugh, unfortunately it was at the stereotype. Said it earlier, I felt like I was watching a Saturday Night Live spoof. I am going to ask and please correct me if I am wrong but SCRIPTED?

I feel...as if this show should've been put on VH1 instead. It seems more up their alley....
I am loving all the publicity the show is getting. Apparently it is a hit because it is getting an Aftershow on Thursday. I agree about this show being on Vh1 instead. I mean this show is just too good for MTV. MTV hasnt had a show this good in a while. MTV is usually too busy airing dumb dating shows and other networks hits. So its strange for me to actually see a good show on the channel. Most of the good shows are on Vh1.

The network still has Rock of Love 4 confirmed & ILM4 should start soon. Two very strong shows for Vh1. I also enjoy Tough Love, *** Rehab and to some extent FTLORJ2. MTV, has, well nothing right now. RW is pretty much dead as are the Challenges. I enjoyed the Ruins in the beginning but in the end it wound up being just as bad as the previous 5 challenges or so. I can honestly say that I havent been into a Real World season since Back to NY. So Jersey Shore is giving MTV a badly needed shot in the arm. Even though RCOL2 & DOL sucked I still managed to stick with them throughout the season which is a lot more than I can say about everything on MTV. It'll be interesting to see what The Entertainer's show can do as well. Even if it bombs I am sure it'll be better than anything on MTV.
If Vh1 stops making Reality Series for now like the spin-offs and suff and stick to all the programs they have ROL 4/DOL2/ILM4/CS4/EOL/ILNY3 all lined up plus Chili/Pepa/Aspen/Basketball Wives they should just cool down for a little,as for MTV the need to ust produce one RW a year and One Challange and rtire Kenny,Evan,Ryan,Paula,Casey and Johnny. Back on topic:Dj Pauly D looks way younger than he is and The situation is hilarious and I like Snookie the rest hmmmm not so much I sorta like Sweetheart and JWOW every other couple of scenes.I really dont like Roonie,Angela(?),Vinny

The kid looks like he can pass for 23, good genetics he has. In addition to aging very well, he is also the hottest guy on the show with a great body. As for Rock of Love 4 (the best reality show right now) being confirmed it has been confirmed in a few places. I dont have any links but Bret has confirmed it in an interview with Vh1 I believe. If I come across the links I will come back and post them.
