This looks interesting. I actually a fan of ghost-type films.

Kind of interesting that they are opening it in big college towns it seems like. Looks interesting, I like scary movies too, I just don't know if I could sit through a whole movie filmed like that. I think I would get annoyed by the night vision and shaky camera after a while.

I should look it up and see if its coming to CT cuz it looks amazing.

I feel bad for the producers...a major movie company has already began working on a remake for world wide release. That's such a slap in the face.

They are only showing it at Penn Sate in Pennsylvania. Might have to make a trip down there, maybe I'll see Bronne...;).

I read a review about this movie from a horror film fest almost two years ago and have been looking forward to it ever since. When Paramount purchased the rights they had plans to remake it but opted for re-shoots instead - not for lack of quality of the movie, rather for editing decisions and add a little CGI (the film was made for $11k). So a couple weeks ago I saw that this was getting a limited release in NY and LA but they started that Demand It site. Of course I went to the site and later in the week my city was announced as one of the release cities but it was only playing at one theater and only at 11:59 on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. Work and family obligations prevented me from seeing it Thursday or Friday so a couple of buds and I planned on seeing it Saturday night and boy did I think wrong because it was sold out! I was so pissed at myself for not getting tickets earlier and figured I'd have to wait for a dvd release but it was announced yesterday that it will open to a wider release this weekend. I am defintely not missing it this time. I have been a horror movie fan all my life and it takes a lot for a movie to scare or unnerve me but this could do it especially because things like this freak me out. On a side note about recent horror movies and remakes - Trick R Treat is released on dvd today and has had strong buzz after being on the shelf for two years. Again its not a quality thing its a studio suits are ******** thing. The Nightmare on Elm Street remake actually looks interesting. One of the studios (forget which one) is remaking Let the Right One In but do yourself a favor and see the original. Same with [REC] it was remade last year as Quarantine but the orignal is vastly superior to the remake. [REC] 2 just hit the film fest circuits and should be getting a dvd release. I've heard its as good, if not better, than the first. I saw The Last House On The Left remake last month and it was great. Really great acting performances and great direction.

Glad to see we have such a horror following on Vevmo! Yeah - Paranormal Activity seems like a MUST for horror fans. I'm glad Paramount chose not to remake it, cuz that would've been so awful for the original producers and creative team. I really hope this movie comes somewhere close to me - I can't really justify traveling to NYC (2 hours total, once i get to a station and take the train...) but I do have friends that live there, so I won't rule it completely out. TRICK R TREAT! "Very Long Wait" on Netflix in my area, and it's been in my #1 spot since it came up from my "Saved" section. I can't wait to see it! It was supposed to get a theatrical release, and I even saw the trailer in theaters a long while back...but glad to see it's off the shelf and available for viewing!

Check Fandango for Paranormal Activity listings in your area. They just updated today so I will be seeing it this Friday. Yesterday Paramount had a press release saying that if Demand It (which is all promotion) reached 1 million requests total it would get a wide release and sure enough today it reached it but they would'e released it anywaysbased on the buzz and sold out showings. The director Oren Peli has just reached a deal to direct 'Area 51' which will be in the same vain as 'Paranormal Activity'. Hopefully he pulls it off because Area 51 has always been an interesting subject to me. Thanks for the reminder on Netflix and Trick R Treat, I just checked mine and its a short wait for blu-ray in my area. I knew I should've watched the movie I had and returned it this past weekend. Oh well. I may switch to standard dvd in my queque to see if it makes any difference. Maybe it won't though since its the Halloween season.

But I agree, they should go ahead and release it nationwide now. It has garnered a ton of buzz over the past couple of weeks.

I saw it in some out-of-the-way theater, and there wasn't much said, at the time. I actually remember wondering if that was a real documentary, and it scared the crap out of me. Of course, once it went mainstream, everyone had heard the hype and seen the parody videos, so that "is it real" element was taken away. When I rewatched it with friends on VHS one Halloween , I felt silly when they didn't even blink at the creepy parts, after I'd gone on about how scary it was. :blush:

There's a difference between limited and nationwide. The only thing they're doing are adding more theaters and opening up the times to all parts of the day. It's still not nationwide.

I am familiar with what full and limited mean, that was just one of the multiple stories on the matter. It wasn't just additional theaters and times that were added, additional cities were added as well. AICN, EW and any entertainment related movie site have simliar stories on the matter. Hell I've been seeing tv spots for it all week advertising it. If you want to buy the "Demand It" hype go ahead, thats what the studios are paying for. Again - with the amount of buzz and sold out showings that the movie has generated already do you really think the studio doesn't want to make money or limit their profits? Even if it doesn't open nationwide this weekend it will by the end of the month.

Of course it's just a marketing ploy. But you said it was announced, which it's not.

I didn't know it was a ploy, but more power to 'em! Whatever they have to do to get this movie closer to meeeee. Even with the limited release, I'd still have to drive about 90 minutes to see it =/ Dont think I'm up for [I]that[/I], but when its closer....I'll be there.

Of the multiple stories I've read about the movies over the past couple of weeks there may have not been one that stated explicitly "The film will be released nationwide on (insert date here)" but an educated inference could be made that it would. The writing is on the wall. Every other commercial break last night there was a tv spot. Studios don't burn that kind of marketing money for a limited release. So arguing whether it will get a nationwide release is moot anyways.

It'll open to more theaters, gain more of a following, and earn some more $$ and then hopefully I can drive 10 minutes to see it instead of 90!

Actually if you go back in the thread I never said "nationwide" I said "wider release". The link I provided never said nationwide either so my bad i guess. But all the evidence - every story, every ad, etc. - all point to an eventual nationwide release. This is one of those cases where 1 + 1 does in fact = 2. Its moot to argue all of this. Anyway, the counter is at 700,000 now, so I'm guessing it will open up nationwide next Friday. The way it's been going is 100,000 everyday, so by atleast Monday I think it will hit 1,000,000. I have to admit, it was very clever, and the buzz is definately out there. By the time it does hit nationwide, everyone will want to go see what is with the: sold out showings, standing in line for 3 hours, scariest thing since Exorcist fuss is about. Just in time for Halloween too. Im kinda conflicted because on one hand, I could drive 1hr 30 min tomorrow to go see it. I REALLY want to see this. Or, I could wait a week and "hope" that once it hits 1,000,000 they will release it nationwide the following week and not delay it.

I drove 90 min to see this yesterday. It opens up nationwide starting this Thursday.... Go.See.This.Now.

Saw this last night and I came away a bit letdown. Perhaps I had my hopes too high. But I encourage everyone to see if for themselves and make up their own minds.
