Now 5-0 in case you don't know. Soon to be 6-0, IN THE FIRST!
Also, it is why they play 9 innings and not just one. :D
3-5 and the Sox are up in the 3rd.
Yup. Lowell really brought life into the crowd. Say B, do you really think the Sox will pull the plug on the Halladay deal? Or do you think they will get Adrian GOnzalez and trade Big Papi

Actually, I was hoping they would do both deals, lol.
Lowell would make a great DH and his hitting would probably improve if he did not have to field.
Hold the phone. Did you say "trade Big Papi"?? I know he is not the same, but I don't know if my little Red Sox heart can take loosing him. I'll miss that smile more than I think I miss his bat that is already pretty much gone. Can we at least keep him around as the new mascot? Please!

I'd hate to lose him, but to be honest I'd rather have Lowell up in the clutch than Papi these days and it looks like if we add someone, something has got to give.

I know, I know. I guess I have been trying to prepare myself for this all season when he wasn't improving. I won't get ahead of myself though and I'll hold off on the tears until after he is traded, if he is traded... :weep:
According to ESPN's Jayson Stark, the Red Sox and Indians are working on a three-team trade involving Victor Martinez, Clay Buchholz and prospects.
Stark doesn't know who the third team would be. We imagine Theo Epstein doesn't either, but that won't stop him from working the phones right up until the last minute. It was reported that the Red Sox rejected Martinez for Buchholz straight up. That'd seem to be the primary composition of this deal, but some other players could change hands. Also, the Red Sox would have to find a taker for Adam LaRoche in order to open up a spot.

OOOOOHHHH BACCHUS! This should bring a little bit of a smile to your face. :)
OOOOOHHHH BACCHUS! This should bring a little bit of a smile to your face. :)
While I am sure it would help the Sox, it is not enough. To be honest I wouldn't be very happy with a Buchholz for Martinez swap. It was one thing when Lee was in the deal along with other prospects, but now it seems like we are losing out.
Varitek had a great game yesterday and is having an alright season. Are we really gaining that much at the cost of a 5th starter?
Also, this would mean all other deals are dead. I was hoping for a REAL trade - not a utility trade that will have minimal impact on the team as I personally think Martinez's best years are behind him. Heck, V-Tek even has more HRs in the last two years.
What would we really be getting? A higher on base percentage? Blah...
In bigger, better news. ;)
There were indications late last night that trade talks between the Padres and Red Sox concerning first baseman Adrian Gonzalez were still active and would likely peak today before the trade deadline.
Sox-Padres still in play - Extra Bases - Red Sox blog
Hmmmmm. interesting. According to a Jayson Stark source, The asking price for Adrian GOnzalez is Astronomical, about ten times the intensity of the offer for Roy Halladay.
Gee, things really are looking slim for our Sox.

I am a bit deflated at this point. Not expecting much with 2 hours + remaining.
Also, after the news yesterday (which I'd rather not have a discussion about) I am not really in much of a baseball mood...
More Info:
The report has been confirmed by Ed Price of AOL Fanhouse. Martinez is owed about $2 million for the rest of this season and carries a $7 million club option for 2010. He's batting .284/.368/.464 with 15 home runs and 67 RBI in 377 at-bats for Cleveland, tallying 52 games behind the plate and another 47 at first base. The Indians have had their eye on Clay Buchholz, but it's not yet clear if he is in the deal.
Beantown Bound?
According to USA Today's Bob Nightengale, "The Red Sox are about to acquire Victor Martinez from Indians."
I just read that...
Let's hope there is more under the tree. :D
More: The Padres are asking for Buchholz, Masterson, Lars Anderson, Jed Lowrie, and Ryan Westmoreland for GOnzalez. THat is the reported offer from San Diego.

Would they like us to box and ship them Fenway park as well? haha.
I bet. I find this funnier, The Yankees inquired about Bannister yesterday from the Royals. THe only reason why it didn't go down was because the Yankees wanted the ROYALS to pay off the rest of his salary! ROFL this is coming from a team that spent over 200 million on three players this offseason. Yet they can't deal to handle one lousy pitcher's salary.
As of right now, I am guessing that martinez is all we are getting. After what they give up for him there won't be enough left to make any big deals.
Disappointing at best as not all our needs are filled and truthfully he is not that big of an upgrade over Tek.
It has been confirmed that Justin Masterson is part of the deal, The Sox may also get someone else from the Indians according to Jon Heyman. He has confirmed the trade.
EDIT: According to NESN's Steve Buckley, The Sox are also talking with the Jays about Marco Scutaro in exchange for possibly Jed Lowrie.
Nice to know ya LaRoche?
First baseman Adam LaRoche becomes expendable for Boston if they complete the Victor Martinez trade; Jon Heyman of SI tells us via Twitter that the Braves are interested. LaRoche came up with the Braves; they traded him to Pittsburgh for Mike Gonzalez in '07.
VIctor Martinez going to Boston:
It's a done deal, says Nightengale via Twitter.
