So, thought I'd update you non locals on this event.
My friend owns Halo DC and tomorrow is the 5 year anniversary event. JD from Brooklyn is playing host and "rumors have it" the Real World DC cast will be there. (Also going to be there: several international recording artists). I'm invited to the "VIP Private Reception" :buba: and I know who all will actually be there...but I'm sworn to secrecy.
There's a public component to the party which is on the lower level of Halo.
Moments ago JD was spotted - I received this tweet:
@mplenahan Just saw JD from real world Brooklyn walking east on p street. Visiting the dc rw folks or perhaps Anderson Cooper?
Funny. Anyhow here's the invite to the event:

And here's an excerpt from Duplex Diner and Halo make it an anniversary weekend - Hearsay METRO WEEKLY:
Meanwhile, on Sunday, July 26, Halo celebrates five years of making complicated fresh and fruity libations. They’re bringing in DJ Lydia “Proper but not” Prim for the occasion, and the color scheme is silver, white and black. And they’ll be keeping it real, too, as JD “Latin Heat” Ordonez from MTV’s The Real World Brooklyn plays host for the evening, and rumors are swirling madly that some or all of The Real World DC cast will show. Say what? You haven’t heard that the series is currently filming in Dupont Circle? Well, crawl out from under that rock! Halo’s Jason “I’m Surrounded By Your Embrace” Tamanini says the whole shebang will be “star-studded,” with both local and national celebs. Even if they’re just impersonating, this should be a grand good time. There's a private, invite-only gathering from 7:30 to 9 p.m., after which the doors swing wide open to the public...
Thanks Wiggy. The DC cast sure is quick to make connections.
You mean the producers are quick to make connections....yes! Of course, it helps to have some of us play networkers extraordinaire.
I can't take credit for any of it, however I do find it interesting that at least eight business owners with whom I am friends have cleared MTV to tape at their events...and have had various functions at which the roommates have been.
Word has it that MTV can't get clearance in many DC locations.

Producers, true.
Real World in DC is going to have many restrictions and I thought that from the start.

Well, the fact that the camera crew was (allegedly) responsible for causing a fight at Tattoo Bar the other night is surely not going to help BMPs cause to get cleared for the cast.
BMPs really got to get their crews and producers under control. First the Ryan Romkema situation; then, the homophobic security guard; last Saturday's fiasco with a producer demanding that a fan at the Freedom soccer game delete a photo of the mascot with the cast; and now the fight started by a cameraman pushing one patron into another at the bar. The Washington Post's "Reliable Source" was on NBC 4 yesterday evening and they said on the newscast that the cast members are great and friendly, but the Washington Post gives the producers who "think they are Hollywood producers" two thumbs down and have called for an apology.
Just when I thought the drama had died down, BMPs folks make another series of missteps which, ultimately, reflect negatively on the poor roommates who are really just trying to fit in at this point.
BMP is certainly not doing themselves any favors by creating all these drama. Are the cast only limited to a certain amount of places they can go to since they can't get clearances elsewhere? Sounds like you've been helping the cast out Wiggy, have you hung out with them?

The whole crew and producers have really pissed me off. Honestly, they knew this season was going to gain much more exposure, yet instead of coping with it they act childish and only lose respect, and hinder the experience of the cast.
That is what most upsets me. How much has the cast accomplished without some issue arising because of someone else? IN the end, I really hope that people can see past the bs, and treat the cast well.

The cast members themselves aren't exactly limited. They can go wherever they want (though they do need permission from producers), but it's the camera crew that has limits. What you have to understand about how "real" the Real World is produced is that unlike Big Brother, where cameras and microphones are never off, on The Real World, cast members often go about their business without any BMP folks in tow. That's because them going to the gym, or to Rite Aid for cigarettes, and so on aren't necessarily moments that would make for good TV. (At Rite Aid and other stores the cameras aren't allowed in anyways - like Urban Outfitters: also not cleared). I know of at least two occasions when I've been at an establishment with some of the RW roommates present and no cameras. That doesn't happen frequently.
So the short answer is: yes, they are limited to a certain few places that they are cleared to bring the whole dog-and-pony show to. As the PR becomes increasingly negative, I would imagine less establishments will give clearance.
I have not been stalking the cast - I have interacted with them however. I'd much rather be a local ally than a stalker-crazed fan. (I'm too old for that!)
I'm fairly confident that tomorrow at this private event, many of us will have an opportunity to chat in "peace" - though the cameras and boom microphones, and lights will be accompanying the cast... that is if they show up....;)
Thanks Wiggy for the info! The Halo event tomorrow is private? Sucks, I was hoping to check it out...
Well there are two events at Halo. The private reception on the second floor and the public party on the first floor. The second floor is for invited guests and will feature a number of celebrities. Once that concludes at 9pm, the upstairs will also be open to the public.
Ty is a ladies man.....
A bunch of photos of the roommates at Tattoo Bar's 80s Party last Wednesday thanks to photographer James.
Notably absent: Emily and Mike and I've been told by sources that there's trouble in paradise....

Wiggy: You are so connected! Next to Cobalt, Halo is my favorite place to hang out in DC when I visit. It is a very classy place, and the bartenders take great care to make exotic drinks. I wish I could be there this weekend. I'm sure you will enjoy yourself. I look forward to hearing whatever you can share about what happens in the VIP room.
Thanks for the pics Wiggy, has Ty realized that he perspires a lot in the underarm area? :D
Ha... If he hasn't yet, he'll definitely notice once he sees the episodes....
A little birdie told me that if the weather is good tomorrow a certain television crew will be going to a certain outdoor recreation event....where under arm perspiration shouldn't be a problem.

I couldnt agree more. It occurs to me that the producers are missing an opportunity to engage the real world and the real contemporary culture of their target audience (e.g., instantaneous social networking) by exercising protectionism instead of genuine engagement. Similarly, they are missing out on an opportunity to highlight something that is distinctive of DC, namely the blogging/twitting/etc. phenomena.

Hahah hopefully, because that was not flattering.
Recreation event? Cool.
Check out this pic of Mike and a young lady...not sure when it was taken. He is keeping people guessing, I think. And appears to be having fun doing it.
Nice photos, but it you keep going you see him with a guy again, so I don't think he is confused.
TY definitely loves himself.
I didnt mean to imply he was confused. I bet he knows exactly what he likes and what he is doing. Maybe he is bi...maybe gay...whatever....we'll find out when he tells us (on air).
Is the picture your are referring to the (older?) one from Cobalt or is there another that I missed? I looked again, but only saw the Cobalt pic (which is referred to in the news caption).
(Note, I am not being argumentative here, just want to follow what's going on.)
Nice photos, but it you keep going you see him with a guy again, so I don't think he is confused.

Yeah, as I said in an earlier post. He may be bi, he's likely gay, but he's definitely not straight. And as I said previously, this smooching with girls is something gay guys do often...and this one may be doing it precisely for this reason: keep people guessing.
Not to start a firestorm, but you ask most gay men and they'll tell you there's no such thing as ******** men. I'm not weighing in on this since my opinion doesn't matter. Just sayin'...consider the evidence at hand. ;-)
I know all about it trust me Wiggy, being bi, you don't know how many times I have been told there is no such thing, you are gay or straight. I say screw labels!
Yeah I am guessing he is not straight either.

Ditto. Of course, it might be best if this link were tied to the forum directly associated with him. Who knows if he or any of the cast will be able to read this particular forum in its entirety. Imagine how many pages are going to in this thread by the time the taping is done.

Wiggy's concluding comment raises a question maybe one of you all can answer for me. Somewhere (maybe here) I read that they have "limited access to the Internet" Is this true or was I smoking something? If, true, does anyone understand the limits? If not true, ever wonder if they are reading blogs like this in real time?

They do have internet access.
They each also each have a Gmail email address. Yes, I have them... no I won't publicize them. Nor do I think anybody who has the e-mail addresses should publicize them for the mere fact that 1) BMP may have access to their email (I am told), 2) there's no good reason to publish that information and 3) it would just prompt them to change the email accounts.
I also know for a fact that they have seen some blogs. They were alerted to a particular blog or two in order to strategically avoid and/or beware of some identities.
I'm sure their internet access isn't being policed like some major corporations are, so with some savvy I would assume they can access blogs/forums like this one. I doubt that much of that is happening, however.
I would hope they are reading in small doses if at all - there's no good reason to read what people are saying about you when you're in the public eye. Especially when you're a newbie like they all are.
I've done PR for celebrities and they never (or rarely) looked at information about them...at least the good ones do it this way. They have people for that.
Of course this is a different set of circumstances and we're dealing with young twenty-somethings.... It would be nice to hear what anybody with more of an insight into this subject has to say.
