So You Think You Can Dance: Season 5

I like the clean cut guy. He's the best dancer on the show.

Here's my quick rundown: Melissa and Ade (disco): High-energy, great start Kayla and Kupono (contemp): I got goosebumps. Caitlin and Jason (foxtrot): Jason looked hot. Caitlin's kicks are incredible. I think they have a thing for each other. They did fairly well. Jeanine and Philip (Russian folkdance): It was different. I don't really know how to critique it... Randi and Evan (hip-hop): I liked it! I wouldn't have pegged either one of them for being good at hip-hop, but they nicely surprised. Janette and Brandon (Argentine tango): A-mazing. Melissa and Ade (waltz): I love them together. It should be interesting to see them with another partner. Kayla and Kupono (Broadway): Meh. Caitlin and Jason (lyrical jazz): I liked it. Jeanine and Philip (jive): pretty good for the jive. Philip did well. Randi and Evan (samba): It could've been better. Janette and Brandon (jazz): She looks like Johnny Depp in Willy Wonka with the shades on. I loved that routine. They were by far the best couple of the night, and this was the best dance of the night.

I think it was a pretty great night all-around! Janette and Brandon were also my favorite couple of the night and I totally thought Willy Wonka when they stepped out in the shades! The thing that is hard about having couples dance twice is that most of the time one dance is much better than the other. So it gets harder to choose who is at the bottom when the lot of them had one strong point and one weak point. I feel like Jason and Caitlin will be in the bottom because neither one of their dances stood out to me among the rest even though they danced well in both. They just didn't have that one great dance that I think would pull people in. Same with Evan and Randi for me. From there it's like, do we think Jeanine and Philip should be in the bottom because their Russian didn't seem that great? Or should Kayla and Kupono be in the bottom since their Broadway was so-so? It's all nit-picky at this point. For me, I thought Kayla and Kupono had an outstanding routine with the Mia Michaels contemporary that I can look past their faults in Broadway. I feel the bottom 3 should be: [I]Randi/Evan, Caitlin/Jason and Philip/Jeanine[/I] but it is all pretty close this week so we'll wait and see, maybe it will be a total surprise!

Bottom 3 couples: Caitlin and Jason, Phillip and Jeanine, and...Melissa and Ade?? What?

Caitlin and Phillip bite the dust...

Melissa and Ade?? WTF? Thank goodness they didn't go home! This may be horrible, but...YAY! PHILIP IS GONE!! I was really over all the praise he was getting. I'll miss Caitlin, but compared to the girls left she was definitely the weakest.

Oh man I would have much rather seen Jason go home than Philip! :( I really wanted to see him in the top ten...

I'm really interested to see how Evan deals with dancing with someone taller than him...I think all of the girls are fairly tall.

Ade is in the bottom? How's Brandon doing?

I was absolutely shocked to see Melissa and Ade in the bottom 3. I think they suffered from the same type of backlash that got directed at Will last season. When the judges rave too much about certain contestants it seems like they end up in the bottom. I love Randi/Evan but they could've easily been bottom 3 they just haven't stepped their game up the last 2 dances. That said, I think the right people went home. Have to admit I don't totally love this season but Brandon/Janette are absolutely ridiculous, Mia and the other guy (can't remember his name, I think the one that always does the lame krumping routines) should be eating some major crow right about now. Their tango was probably the best that I've seen on that show, I can't even think of one that comes close not even Allison/Ivan.

I completely agree, I thought that was the best tango on the show to date. Randi and Evan seem to have a strong following, although it's difficult to tell if they both have a lot of votes coming in or one more than the other. I guess we'll find out next week!

I'm just asking though cause I'm a Brandon fan.

I guess we'll find out next week![/quote] Lil C, thanks - he gets the eye roll, he has yet to come up with a routine that really impressed me, he adds nothing to the show for me PLEASE BRING BACK SHANE. I adore Mia (and she's a genius) but she sometimes is way off the mark and she definitely got it wrong with Brandon imo, I give her cred for admitting that last week though. Randi is the more versatile dancer, but if I had to guess I think Evan probably gets all the "aww he's so cute and unassuming" votes. I'm very interested to see how he does with a different partner next week because so far it seems like a "whole is greater than the sum of its parts" situation. I also feel like they've been thrown some soft balls when it comes to choreo, they've rarely had to step too far out of their comfort zone - even the hip hop routine was tailor made for them and I rarely see that happen (flashback to Heidi krumping in what looked like a diaper on Season 2).

It was really a treat to watch. And I looooved Allison and Ivan, they are one of my fave couples of all time from this show.

I always like Dave Scott's stuff though. His choreography last season (even though he only did one) was my favorite.

Funny how people say Quickstep is the kiss of death but I think getting hip hop is worse because if you don't 100% give in to it than you just end up looking corny, its just hard to pull it off for a lot of people with more "traditional" dance training. Funnily enough one of the rare times I've seen two non hip hoppers pull off a hip hop routine convincingly. Love them, there were so many great people on that season, Allison and Ivan, Heidi, Benji, Donyelle, Travis, Dmitry 2 and 3 are my fav seasons.

Mine too! I still YouTube it every so often just to see it again. Oh and Donyelle and Travis, they were great too. That was probably my fave season...so many good dancers, and just all around cool people to watch.

I think the problem with the last couple of seasons is that they have some great dancers, lot's of great choreo (though they need new blood, but glad to see Pasha last night) but lackluster personalities- particularly this season. I hope season 6 has fresher personalities.

I find myself doing other things when it's on, where as I used to just be completely glued to the tv and never looking away. I do like a handful this year, but it's just, [I]not[/I] [I]quite....[/I]something...

Last season you had Will, Sabra, Twitch, Kherrington, Joshua, etc. This season you only have Jeanette and Brandon who are actually interesting. I actually enjoy watching and getting to know other dancers besides Brandon and Jeanette, like Melissa, Ade and Kayla. They may be more subdued personalities like I thought Sabra and Will were, but I thought Kherrington was pretty annoying, so it's all personal preference I guess.
