The Real World: Generic Thread

LOL, not 8PM. lol. But yeah I used to hate this show because it was on MTV and everyone watched it.

I think of it as a last hurrah, of sorts, for the structure of the early seasons. And I would like to say that I was also born in 1987.

I saw bits of Boston and London and they were okay.

No offense but your not going to change my opinion or anyone else's about how they feel about the Real World. I find it interesting that salt&vinegar and I were both born in the same year, yet have such contrasting views on the history of the show. I would assume it has to do with the point at which we began watching.

I only wanted my opinion to be argued because it seems very unrepresented on these forums. I enjoy being on Vevmo and just want every view to be shown. I respect everyone for their opinion and just ask to get the same respect.

Yeah. I mean I started watching from B2NY, but have seen every previous season as well.

At least thats what I seem to be getting from your posts, and thats not how it was at all.

It sounds to me like salt&vinegar is trying to say is that they didn't feel Brooklyn really recaptured the old school RW feel like a lot of people felt it did. He/she has watched older seasons as well, judging by the posts. I don't know if any newer season will ever come across like, say, the first seven seasons.

They are different but you must admit they do have some similarities. Las Vegas did discuss real issues but the party, party, party aspect is what is remembered.

In a radio interview I heard with Baya she said she was having panic attacks but that never got shown.

I was born in 1990 and have only been watching The Real World since Paris, and I have to say that I REALLY enjoyed Brooklyn. I'm not a big fan of watching people hook up and get drunk all the time, and since I was REALLY young when most Real World seasons were similar to Brooklyn, I just thought the show was all about partying and whatnot. That's why I was always more into Road Rules because that's not all they did. I have no idea if any of that even made sense. I just agree with those who said that article that talked about Cancun bringing the show back to its roots was way off, because while I didn't watch the earlier seasons, I know it used to be a more meaningful show and not just about hooking up and being trashy.

I honestly think that Cancun is going to be more like Las Vegas than anything else. They're both cities known for partying, so there's no way that Cancun could go back to the "roots" of the Real World when it's probably going to be like the season that pretty much changed the direction of the Real World. I do think that seasons like Paris and Philadelphia were better than, say, Austin and Denver, because even though people called them "boring", they weren't as heavily focused on partying and hooking up as Austin, Denver, etc. (I didn't really watch Hollywood and for some reason can't classify Sydney--I seem to be one of the only people who really liked Sydney but that's probably because I identify with Parisa a lot). Philadelphia is actually my favorite season post-Vegas because it was fun to watch because they did go out but there was very little trash factor involved, and it had interesting, intelligent people on it who did have issues with themselves and each other that they worked out and addressed.

I can see why some people found it boring, because I did at first myself, but it got more interesting after a while. Something about that cast really endeared them to me by the end. They did have issues and weren't just focused only on partying and hooking up. There were genuine emotional attachments. And they were all different people. And even though they all had annoying and bad moments, by the end, I personally didn't feel anyone was an absolutely hideous person overall from what I saw (though some worked the nerves). Those are the things that I feel makes it stand out some among later seasons. It's my favorite post Vegas season as well. I think it suffered a little in audience perception because it was after San Diego, and so many people loved that season, and it was chock full of memorable things it sounds like. And if you didn't watch Philadelphia after a few episodes, you would have missed some of the better things. I didn't see Paris. I thought it looked dull, and I don't consistently watch the show when it's airing. However, I do have some interest in seeing it now, especially because of CT and because of the things people have said about this season. And it's a pre Austin season, so it may have a different feel to it, one I may prefer more.

Ayiiia reminds me of Brianna in some weird way, I can't quite put my finger on it.

So here's a question... How many people go into this show with a boyfriend or girlfriend and end up staying faithful to them? I can think of Sarah from Hollywood and I'm sure there are others... I just can't think of any.

Not many of them do, which is why I think they should make sure they are completely comfortable before going because the show can easily ruin it.

That's all I can think of. I'm sure in the earlier seasons more people did but I can only think of so many. There were some who technically were still dating their bf/gf by the end of the show but had hooked up with others on the show heh.
