Thank you guys for the updates....I'm also hoping to audition for the season after DC. I still have to get my story polish.
Yea --- I actually took a lot notes throughout the process. I'll respond in the future telling all of you the exact type of questions they asked and what not. Right now I'm working on a little presentation that will explain the process better -- haha...take that bmp.
Brownie points for you homie!!
Since this is my first year auditioning, I'm a bit new to process so I have a few (maybe stupid questions) I figured it now would be a good time to send in a tape since they put up a notice on the mtv website. But now it seems they're wrapping up casting on season 23. So, is it now bad I sent in a tape way before they're casting season 24? Or does the time you send it really matter? Also what's the time frame they usually get back to the people they like? I'm a bit familiar with casting offices and how they work. So I assume your tape lays around in the office before they get to you. Anyway being a major RW fan for years I'm kinda ashamed I didn't find this website sooner. Thanks

If you go to post #97 in this thread, Cannottellu has outlined the time frames for when they generally get back to someone.
Yeah I read that, but I was wondering how long it usually takes to get back to a basically random person who hasn't already been on a open call?

And if you want to know a specific time frame, that may be hard to give because you know how Americans are..pro crati nate! I wish I could answer your other questions but perhaps the allmighty V1Man could be of service to you..

Thanks
I advise that people wait to send in videos until after the casting directors start doing interviews annoncing what they are looking for. Once you see what they are looking for you can tailor your video to show how you fit the concepts of people they have in mind.

I assumed that they will still looking for season 23 and like the saying goes "when you assume you make an ass out of u and me" but whatevs."
and btw...you don't always have to send in a video. I didn't.
Neither did Colie. Her home video was made much, much later on.
How did Emilee and Colie apply?
Colie's video.... I could only imagine.
How did Emilee and Colie apply?
I think they just went to open casting calls.
I think they just went to open casting calls.
I figured it was that.. I was crossing my fingers for "by email" It seems pointless to submit a letter via email..
Hey-- I'm fairly new to Vevmo, been a long time lurker. I want to audition for season 24, but I don't know what the best way to go about it is. So my questions are as follows: 1. Would it be better to go to an open call or to send in a video? I feel like I'd do better if they were asking me direct questions as opposed to me coming up with something random to talk about, but I want to do whichever gives me the best shot at being cast. 2. If I do send in a video, what should I talk about in it? I have this fear that I'm going to do it completely wrong! 3. I'm 20, and I know that the minimum age is 18, but do they usually look for people who are 21 and over? I know that there's usually a few people under 21 in each cast but I want to know if my age will hurt my chances--should I wait and audition for season 25 instead? Thanks!

Thanks!
If you go to an open casting call...they don't really spend a lot of time with you. You are put in a group of 8 people and they look at profiles that you fill in. You need to make sure on your profile that you hit the points that they are looking for. Right before they begin casting for each season, the CDs do interviews revealing where they would like to go with the season. So my point is that it doesn't matter if you go to an open casting call or send a video...you just need to make sure that you are what they are looking for in a tenative fashion. You can't really say anything wrong other than "I know what you're looking for...I'm it...and I'll boost your ratings." They frown on that. Be unique. Bullet point your life and what makes you stand out...and show personality. Age matters depending on the location. There's nothing you can do about that. The Cancun cast is younger. The DC cast will be older. There's nothing you can do to predict what they are looking for there.
Okay in the past i THINK i remember seeing they were looking for disabled (or someone with a disability) ....Isn't there a rule that you need to be in 'fit' condition? Because most reality shows do... And im asking cause i would love to audition for 'The Real World' but i am considered disabled. Without being overly person, i will say it is a chronic but well-managed disability. So, im wondering what the rules on this are?

Am I to late to apply for season 23? I sent an email with 4 pics and a short bio about a week ago. How long does it take to get a reply if you are in? When does the online (if they are doing it) casting start for season 23? TIA
Am I to late to apply for season 23?
The casting is complete for the upcoming season that beings filming this month.
So I guess they never had online casting for season 23? only for season 21 and 22?

Hi there… I’m bothered by a couple of things I have read recently while hanging out on the stage right minding my own business. Now, I know that I’m a 31 year old who has never auditioned for Real World; however, I have been on the human resources interview teams for Google, Apple, Microsoft, and not to mention that I interviewed for a position at the CIA some 5 years back – a process that is far more rigorous than for a reality TV, and I know that for fact as I have a close friend who is a casting director…not for Real World…but other reality shows. For all of you who think there are no “secrets” to making it past the first couple of rounds in the reality show casting process, you’re wrong. The first round or two of auditions serve the exact same purpose as the early rounds of interviewing for Google, which receives some 20,000 applicants a month. You need to read what they are looking for…if that is Spanish speaking skills then make sure they know that. If it is to be a “one-eyed, diseased, addict” as posted in the DC thread then say that. The casting directors are INTERVIEWING you for a culture fit of what they are looking for the season. They likely spend the first round or two getting to know your background and then move onward to behavioral-style interviews to develop a profile for how you will react when living with different kinds of people. That means – they are going to ask a lot of questions about your friends, your family, and try to put you on the spot to get a reaction – the CIA does this too, except they hook you up to a polygraph exam while I doubt Real World does. No offense to anyone who posts on this site about their experiences (even the people who have made the show) but each season is going to be different but similarities do exist. Common sense will tell you that casting for someone with a disability or unique story will be much harder to do than casting for someone who speaks Spanish, is a life guard, or looks good in a bathing suit. My real life example would be, it is much easier for me to find a good Admin Assistant for a team than it is for me to find a technology specialist with SQL and Cobalt experience. Sorry to disappoint all of you who are following every word said by Emilee on here…but her experience is going to be very different than “CannotTellU” experience because of the reasons I just stated. (refer to the DC thread for their comments). Everyone on here needs to understand that reality show television is nothing more than a business, and a very profitable one that doesn’t require paying actors extremely high salaries. The casting directors are following the director set by the producers who have pitched the concept of the season to the network. Everything about the show is selected for business purposes, including cast and location. It is no coincidence that the Hollywood cast vacationed at ME Hotel and then the Cancun cast lived there as the Hotel likely paid for that to happen or gave BMP the housing for free in return for publicity. Before Cancun was even selected, places like Panama City Beach were lobbying MTV to try to get Real World to go there…this stuff goes on frequently…it is nothing but business. They don’t make decisions about location based off “they went someplace cold…now they need to go someplace warm”-type mentality…ratings, network management opinions, city officials lobbying, cost, potential cast, current social trends, etc all play a role in selection of every component of the season...from cast to location to job to vacation spot to style of furniture. It is mapped out. It is business. Back to my point…do your research. Bullet point the interesting facts about you. Be yourself and let things just happen. You can be smart about the way you self-market yourself in the early rounds that will help you advance to later rounds...but if you aren't being real or not a fit for what they seek...it will likely catch up to you at some point as they begin to more seriously evalute you for the cast. Other than that…no advice that anyone on this forum, even if they made it on the show, is worth while or will help you. Great first post! Welcome to Vevmo :).
It is not the policy of this site to give advice regarding casting or to encourage the discussion of the casting process, and we especially discourage anyone involved in the process from discussing it. Shizsue makes many excellent points in her commentary above. As one whose company is occasionally involved in reality casting, I know all too well the business aspects of the process. The artist in me, though, always wants to shout "good tv sells," but that frequently is not enough.

We all know that. I see a lot of young people wanting to be on these shows and they just don't realize how much of a business this really is. They need to understand there is virtually no way to know how a cast is being assembled. Are they looking for "yes" men, a team of rivals, gripping stories, to make headlines so way or another, to expand their market share to new demographics or new countries, to market a city/location that paid them money, to lay the ground work for future new shows, and on and on and on. At the end of the day, 99.5% of Real Worlders will be forgotten in a couple month period. Is it really worth it? Hate to break it to all you individuals that have been cast on Real World, but if your resume comes across my desk at Google you aren’t going to make it very far especially once I go on youtube to lookup you yelling at someone, insensitive comments, drunken escapades, and countless hookups. We don’t look for reasons why we should hire you…we look for reasons why we shouldn’t…and BMP does the same thing.
