If you watched the Denver season ( gosh I bet your all surprised that I know it so well) you will hear a phone conversation between Brooke and her Mom. In it they discuss all the expenses that Brooke has for her LA apartment while she is in Denver filming the show. The only one helping her is MOM!!!
I did watch that season, but I must have missed that part. I always wondered how a young adult could afford to leave rent/utilities and such for a few months if they don't have a roommate or live with their parents. I sure couldn't afford it!
How long ago were you in the casting process?
It feels like decades ago...
so you cant be a pot head and get on?
so you cant be a pot head and get on?
There is a drug testing clause in both the Real World and Challenge contracts.
There is a drug testing clause in both the Real World and Challenge contracts.
Funny that they test for marijuana, but not a more dangerous substance such as anabolic steroids. I guess they would be a little short on men for the challenges if they did :bye:.
so you cant be a pot head and get on?
No, you can be a pot head and get on. You just need to pass the drug test out in L.A. If you take a break from the stuff for awhile during the casting process then you should pass the test.
There is a drug testing clause in both the Real World and Challenge contracts.
But do they use the clause?
I knew someone would say this sooner or later.
Just stating the obvious. It's quite clear the ones that use it and really not fair to the other players. Especially with that kind of money on the line. If you are going to test for drugs then do it the right way.
But do they use the clause?
I can't answer that question due to the "production techniques" clause. If I were the executive producer, I would use random drug testing during the season and before a challenge.
Milo, thanks for taking the time to give us your insight. From my observation, the RW slowly morphed into a drunken sex-fest with people who needed psychiatric help over time. BMP seemed to reach the point of no return regarding casting after the Vegas season... Sure, Seattle and Boston had thier moments, but they were less obvious and less "acceptable" to the entire cast. Milo, it would really be informative if you could remember what year you sent your first application tape... cuz from how you described yourself at the time, you would have been a shoe in for any season after Vegas... thanks Milo.

To be honest, the only season I watched in its entirety was Philadelphia. From what I have gathered reading this board, the idea behind the Brooklyn season was to go back to the "roots" of The Real World. I'm not sure if they accomplished that or not since I never watched the early seasons of the show. It sounds like this past season was drastically different than the seasons after Vegas. Very little drinking, going out to clubs/bars and hooking up. Personally, I think some of that partying nonsense is good for the show. You just need to find that happy medium. I can't remember the year I sent in my tape, but it was after Vegas. I don't think anyone that applies is a "shoe in" for the show. Just luck of the draw for the most part.
Thanks again, Milo! I liked the Brooklyn season for the most part, but like you said there needs to be a happy middle place between hard-core partying/crazy drama, and personal growth/"activism". One is just obnoxious and the other is boring... Here is hoping Cancun can deliver!

I agree, I thought Brooklyn should of had a little bit of both. Can't wait for Cancun!
Really, I enjoyed the high level of maturity in Brooklyn, besides JD and Chet. Hopefully Cancun will be that way too. And I must agree with V's earlier post in that they should test them both before and during The Challenge.

Maybe it was just the episodes that I tuned into that had this, but it seemed a little high schoolish. I think testing during the show would be a waste of time. I highly doubt these guys are shooting up in the bathroom while filming is taking place. They probably do a cycle of steroids 3 months before they leave for the show. I think everyone's luggage is searched before taping anyway if I am not mistaken.

I don't think they would be doing anything while there, but you never know. That is the only reason I think they should implement the drug test.
Testing for steroids is the last thing on my list to test for, based upon well over 300 conversations with cast over the past 7 years.
Interesting. As far as challenges go, steroids should be high on the list for testing. There is a lot of money at stake and having a few people "juiced up" puts the other men and, women for that matter, at a disadvantage.
Testing for steroids is the last thing on my list to test for, based upon well over 300 conversations with cast over the past 7 years.
Well that is what I was referring to as well. But i must agree with Milo, steroids should be tested for as well.

I know about other drug use and even know who took up a collection from cast/crew on one challenge to get away to buy stuff locally.
I know about other drug use and even know who took up a collection from cast/crew on one challenge to get away to buy stuff locally.
That doesn't surprise me. I doubt that is the only instance of off camera drug purchasing happening.

I have three questions 1-when is the auditions for RW:24 (the one after DC)? 2-why don't they have casting calls in NYC, and round 4 as well? 3-how long does it take for them to contact you, on each and every round?
1-when is the auditions for RW:24 (the one after DC)? They will begin sometime in mid-August, I believe. The entire process takes about 5 months. 2-why don't they have casting calls in NYC, and round 4 as well? No idea. For Season 23, all the people who lived in NYC had to come to Philly for semi-finals. They normally do it in 6-hour radiuses...at least for semi-finals. 3-how long does it take for them to contact you, on each and every round? This is hard to say because it can change. From my experience this past season, I emailed the company for a VIP pass...they got back to me within 16 hours. Then I went to an open casting call and they made me fill out the 80-question paper work instantly. 2 weeks later they contacted me about a follow-up interview. A week after that they called me to check my availbility for semi-finals and told me to make a 10-minute video. Sent that in and 1 week later they set up Semi-finals with me. 2 weeks after Semi-finals they call you about Finals. And then the get the status on Finals takes 3 to 5 weeks. Then you're given 3 to 4 weeks notice before you move. Hope that helps.
Thanks Cannot tellyou. Wow hopefully they come near NY this year.
they do have casting calls in the city sometimes. im from ny. i went in october to an open casting call for real world cancun auditions. then in march i sent a bio about myself a recieved an email about me being inviting to a private casting call in nyc that was actually on broadway i think. they have them rarely but lately i think they have them more around here. if i remember correctly, they had a fresh meat casting class in nyc when that were having auditions for the first fresh meat. i wasnt of age yet so i didnt apply. i will be trying out again for the season after D.C. and il let you all know if there are any auditions around the ny area like nyc
Yea --- I actually took a lot notes throughout the process. I'll respond in the future telling all of you the exact type of questions they asked and what not. Right now I'm working on a little presentation that will explain the process better -- haha...take that bmp.
