Before speaking a word to each other, the teams are each forced to eliminate one player from their tribe who will not go on with them to their camp. Survivor Tocantins Premiers in 5 Minutes! I think this first episode is going to be really good. I am excited to see the Exile Island twist! Do they stay with their tribe, or risk going to the other tribe? I am also looking foward to the "vote off" at the beginning of the show. I predict that Sandy and Sierra are the ones "voted off."
I don't have any predictions. I have purposely stayed away from most of the pre-show interviews and such to go in with a blank slate. I'm also looking forward to the 2 new twists. I wish the premiere was 2 hours!
I'm going to have to tattoo "Don't look at Vevmo" on the back of my hand from now until 9pm!
I knew they were not going to vote two people off before the game got started. There are just not enough people this season to afford that luxury. ;)
Right out of the gate, I think the tribes made the right decisions. Sandy looked like she was about to pass out after her chopper ride and Sierra seems annoying as all hell and I've only been exposed to her for about 90 seconds!
I think Sierra made the right decision. You need to make a good impression and building camp just might do it.
I hate people who cry on day one of Survivor.
I think Sierra made the right decision. You need to make a good impression and building camp just might do it.
I'll give her points for that. I'm glad her tribe won. I think it is time for Sandy to head home. Edit: Although if she found the idol it would be an awesome episode 1 twist!
Carolina, we hardly knew ya!
That was a good first episode. Carolina was getting annoying to me so I am glad she went home. Lol. I was pulling for Sandy to get the idol... that would have been an awesome first episode! Sandy done surprisingly well on the challenge. (IMO)
I like Sandy, I was glad she was able to stay around. It probably won't be for too long but she seems like a cool lady, at least to watch on TV. This is my first episode seeing in HD, I didn't have that during Gabon, and it really adds a lot to the viewing experience. The editing left me with questions though. How come Sandy could find the stick immediately during the bathroom break but not for the 4 hours she had?
Carolina was getting annoying to me so I am glad she went home. Lol. I was pulling for Sandy to get the idol... that would have been an awesome first episode! Sandy done surprisingly well on the challenge. (IMO)
It didn't matter to me either way. I think Carolina is a pretty girl, but her bossiness in camp was a sure sign of doom either this week or a week in the near future. I don't have too much to add concerning the episode as there are so many cast members and it hard to form in depth impressions with such little air time divided out between them (the majority went to Sandy this week.) I think "coach" might go far. I know that people don't enjoy being bossed around, but I get the feeling he might gain the respect of the tribe rather than come off as a tyrant of some sort. He looks to have skills and if he makes it to the merge will be a major physical threat. All in all I was happy with the episode, although I think next week things are going to really pick up. The first episode of Survivor always underwhelms as we have yet to form emotional attachments to the characters...
Put me in the camp of Sandy annoys the hell out of me! I hate criers. And she is so transparent in her reactions. She may be a tough ol' broad in the physical department, but emotionally she is weak. There is no way that she is lasting 39 days. I'm on the fence about Coach. His arrogance is rubbing me wrong. I have no doubt that he has many skills and will be a great leader. Right now he's reeking of wrestler dude from Fans vs. Favorites. I think that Sierra made the best choice. Make camp and still have the clue to find the idol. :D
Did anyone else find it odd that Erinn knew Sierra's name when they were doing the initial vote? I believe she was the only one who actually used a name.
It really was nice opening episode to start the season and I do agree it will start to pick up even more in the next few episodes. Now the blindside was kind of funny to see but Carolina fitted that...bossy person who usually gets sent home early so I wasn't too surprised. But still nice to see. Sandy...wow....palm trees are sneaky huh?
I think that Sierra made the best choice. Make camp and still have the clue to find the idol. :D
That was definitely the right move. Sandy didn't think about that at ALL...and how do you not know what a pace is? AND she didn't know what a palm tree looked like? I don't see her lasting long at all. Eesh. Annnnnnnd I couldn't help but chuckle when Carolina said she was blindsided. Haven't people realized that after 17 seasons, the first people to get voted out are the obnoxious and/or lazy ones? Eesh again. Preview for next week looks good! I'm quite excited about this season.
Put me in the camp of Sandy annoys the hell out of me! I hate criers.
Agreed. It is one thing to see someone break down after weeks of grueling "combat" in the game of Survivor. It is another to see the flood gates open half way through day one. God forbid she sticks around, we will be dealing with daily fits of sniveling and tears!
I'm on the fence about Coach. His arrogance is rubbing me wrong. I have no doubt that he has many skills and will be a great leader. Right now he's reeking of wrestler dude from Fans vs. Favorites.
I like him in the same way I liked Ace last year. Yes, he is arrogant - but I think there are a few redeeming qualities under that exterior that might even out his personality. I'm just making a snap judgment. I fully reserve the right to hate him next week. :D
Did anyone else find it odd that Erinn knew Sierra's name when they were doing the initial vote? I believe she was the only one who actually used a name.
That caught me off guard as well. I was trying to think through how she would have gotten the name, being they couldn't talk on the ride in and once the competition started there was pure pandemonium (i.e. no time to exchange names and pleasantries.) Being she voted for her, I can't see that they are friends or even acquaintances, so my best guest is they indulged in a quick off reel moment to speak while waiting for production to set up for the next shot.
Maybe I've watched too many seasons of this show (that would be every season), but I found this first episode a little difficult to take. The first 20 minutes of the episode was mostly the Sandy show which, frankly, was pretty pathetic TV. When you can't see the obvious palm tree and don't know what a pace is, to have the editors display your lack of basic knowledge to the world is completely cringe-worthy. Jeff's fireside chat with the losing tribe was edited in the usual way to show predominantly his conversations with one the tribe is about to evict and the one she believes is going home. Sandy seemed so decidedly calm that you know she was aware that she was safe and that Carolina was in trouble. What production didn't show us was the alliance-building in camp which led to Sandy being told by someone that she was safe. Thanks, production, for keeping us in the dark.
There definitely were a lot of red herrings that made the vote anti-climactic. Carolina telling Sandy "I'm sorry you have to go home" meant definitely that Carolina was gone, and the fact that Sandy was shown casting her vote made it clear she didn't have an immunity idol to play. I agree with V1, the editing patterns make it very predictable for longtime viewers all while not giving much background at all.

I believe that Spencer used Sandy's name as well when he voted.

Does anyone else think that all of the girls kind of suck? During that first challenge, all of the Jalapao girls were dying! Yes, I understand it was hotter than hell, but still...it was weak sauce. I wouldn't mind seeing how Erinn, Sierra, Sandy, and Taj perform in the physical challenges. I have a feeling that Taj is gonna be a force to be reckoned with...she probably got some tips from her husband B-)

Don't they realize this is their show? They should get rid of the ugly and boring people and keep the attractive and entertaining ones. Like Sydney. I get paid either way.
Haha, Jeff - you and I are on the same wavelength! :D
The latest edition of CBS’ long-running Survivor franchise, Tocatins – The Brazilian Highlands, opened with a dominant 13.79 million viewers and a 4.4 rating/13 share among adults 18-49 from 8-9 p.m. Comparably, that was right on par with the season-premiere of the Gabon edition last fall (Viewers: 13.06 million; A18-49: 4.5/11 on Sept. 25, 2008, based on the final nationals). Amazingly, this is the 18th edition of Survivor. [via pifeedback]
Ratings look good. This show is not going anywhere (until Jeff quits.)
Is Sydney the next Julie Berry? :wink2:
Haha, why not? But seriously there is only one Julie Berry, so I think Sydney will just have to be Sydney. :wink2:
Is Probst signed on for 20 or 21 seasons? I know he's contracted through a certain season...
Contracted thru 20. We'll probably find out in the fall if he decides to renew his contract
Tribal Council Voting. This video lets us hear what the tribe members said as they casted their votes, (Which I think is really cool!) YouTube - Survivor: Tocantins -Tribal Council Voting
I agree, I really like how they show these the day after. I remember watching them in Fans vs. Favorites and getting so annoyed that Erik took so long with his!
