Truth behind why MTV wont replay the show
I honestly don't see how hard it is for MTV to just replay past seasons of all three of BMP's shows. I mean, for God's sake, MTV airs all of these unnecessary marathons of America's Next Top model (they've probably aired each season like 3 times over), their late-night schedule primarily consists of all the whacked out dating shows that nobody watches (Parental Control and what not), and they own so many other channels as well (mtvU, MTV2, Logo, etc). And yet, they just can't seem to replay ANYTHING from Real World/Road Rules/Challenge past. How hard is it to just have a marathon of Real World Paris in the middle of the night? Or even before a brand new season of the challenge they could refresh us with The Duel, or Inferno 3. Or how about preserve the life of Road Rules by airing X-TREME or Campus Crawl at like 2am? That way all these new Challenge fans know where the 'Road Rules' part of the title came from. This leads me to believe that there's some very legit and logical explanation for WHY mtv can't just replay ANY past season of the show. Sure, RW1-4 and RR1-8 have been syndicated, but that doesn't excuse the other 20+ seasons from both shows they still have the rights to. So lets try to figure this out. Does anyone know why? I heard from someone that it was issues with the music they used. You might've noticed that in recent seasons that the show has been using music from underground and new artists... not a lot of mainstream music anymore.
Yeah, the new music is usually some *********** stuff too. So is the problem with them paying the artistes money or what?
Have you asked MTV for an explanation?
Yeah, the new music is usually some *********** stuff too.
Oh, my god I agree. The earlier seasons had recognizable stuff that fit the theme (Julie and Eric dancing to "Wiggle It," Norm crushing on Charles Perez over "Hold On My Heart," etc.) and the music they use now is so uninspiring and generic. I wish I knew the true reason as to why MTV doesn't repeat RW anymore. Remember the constant marathons and things like "Real World Theater"?
I LOVED it when we got weekend long marathons...those were some of the best times, going out and getting wasted then coming home and curling up in bed or on the couch for the rest of the weekend caught up in RW land, LOL. Those were the days :)

Now would be the time for them to capitalize on this situation and run some of the older ones with Ruthie, Mark or Landon just so the younger demographic would know who they are when the see them on the duel 2.
V1, if it was that easy, I would have done that a long time ago. in fact I'd be asking them other questions as well.

It would be cool to see marathons or at least a few old episode here and there. But they never seem to show them anymore and for whatever reason that is MTV's choice so he have to live with it lol I agree it though would be nice to see some old Real World episodes popping up at sometime or another.
V1, if it was that easy, I would have done that a long time ago. in fact I'd be asking them other questions as well.
If you can state your question in about 25 words or fewer, we will put the question to MTV for you.
When I was younger (like 10 or 11), I used to dislike that there would be marathons of RW or RR on a whole weekend or week because I didn't get to see music videos (and music was one of the things I loved the most). But I hadn't completely gotten into the show yet, being so young and all. I'd just seen a little of RW San Francisco. The challenges also hadn't begun yet. But I got more into the show with the Miami season and I eventually got more into the show and seeing the marathons of seasons I'd seen and not seen during the summers when they had RW/RR Theater. It was a lot of fun to watch everything. I miss the marathons so much! I agree that MTV should air the older seasons as a way to re-introduce past RW and RR cast members so that the new generation will recognize them and those people could be cast in new challenges. Seems like a good idea to me. I know there are a lot of past cast members that have moved on, but there may be a few still that haven't done a challenge and would like to do one, or people from the past that don't get asked anymore. And it could help to revive RR a little, I agree. I think they should get a couple of popular cast members to just host and do commentary on the shows and start up RW/RR/Challenge Theater again. It can come on after school.
Wow, they actually had re-runs of past RW seasons? I'm seriously wishing they could show past seasons.
Wow, they actually had re-runs of past RW seasons? I'm seriously wishing they could show past seasons.
yeah, i remember in like the summers of 2000 or 2001 they had like a late after noon "Real World/Road Rules Theatre", I think it was either right before TRL or after. But yeah, they showed 2 episodes each day of a season from beginning to end. I remember watching it when they aired Semester at Sea, Northern Trail, Seattle, Hawaii. They should really consider doing that again.
Wow, they actually had re-runs of past RW seasons? I'm seriously wishing they could show past seasons.
If I remember correctly they did that with Back to New York, Chicago, and Las Vegas, right before those seasons started they would show reruns of Hawaii, New Orleans, Seattle, Boston, London (these are the ones I know for sure they showed) from day to night on the weekends, I used to love that, then they stopped doing that, I forget with which season
If you can state your question in about 25 words or fewer, we will put the question to MTV for you.
Sounds like a good opportunity for Vevmo to get an answer, Justin! I only got into The Real World because of the marathons they used to play back in the day. I was REALLY YOUNG and didn't get the show at first...but I started watching Miami and I never stopped. MTV shouldn't ignore the show's impact on reality tv and television at large. I think the older seasons are SUCH good television that they should definitely replay them....even if its overnight! Screw replaying anything with "inferno" or "duel" in the title: Gimme some Real World San Francisco!
If you guys watch the RW before it was so much better the only season that can compare to it in recent times is RW Hollywood.
If you can state your question in about 25 words or fewer, we will put the question to MTV for you.
"Why does MTV not include previous seasons of 'The Real World or 'Road Rules' in their programming schedule?" simply put. maybe too simply put...i wish i could elaborate with the show having such a strong fan base, mention it being one of MTV more successful series and how they can air marathons of ANTM or Parental Control over and over again and not RW or RR (or the challenges). if anyone can word it any better feel free to contribute, lol
I remember when they used to show marathons right before the new season of the real world. Those were good times. I used to look forward to that every season.
can you watch any of those seasons online? for some reason i wanna see san diego and boston again.

I think everyone needs to start up a petition about this query.
I think everyone needs to start up a petition about this query.
Don't waste your time unless you can get sponsors and at least 100,000 signatures. That is my professional opinion.
can you watch any of those seasons online? for some reason i wanna see san diego and boston again.
I have RW1 on my YouTube and Ning channels (from the DVD so there's no original music in it), and someone started loading Philly episodes to Ning, but other than that there's not much floating around.
Thank you for posting the first RW season. I need to go back and finish watching it, but I loved what I saw in the first couple of episodes.
Yeah I hate that they don't air the old seasons anymore. That's why I started downloading many of the seasons from torrents and stuff.
Yeah I hate that they don't air the old seasons anymore. That's why I started downloading many of the seasons from torrents and stuff.
Wait! where can you download them?
PM him. If BMP ever found out, I'm sure they'd be upset.
PM him. If BMP ever found out, I'm sure they'd be upset.
ok :)
BMP and MTV have staff read this board every day. People should be smart about what they write.
Well I guess if they're reading this board I hope they come across this thread. So is there any kind of legitimate answer? I know MTVtres just replayed the first two Infernos, but still, MTV2's schedule looks like it's repeating a whole lot of nothing
