Another quick question for Milo: Was there a challenge obligation in the contract (if you can remember?)
Yes, I believe so. I think it was something like if you are called upon to do one of these challenges that you are obligated to go due to the contract. I really wish I made copies of it. There were some really interesting things in there.
Very interesting Milo! The way you described the process to me basically sounded like a strange bedfellows situation. At first I was apprehentious because I didnt know nothing at all with it but now It intrigues me like a cat with a ball of yarn lol.
Go for it. Just have fun with it. Do these interviews your own unique way. I'm telling ya I think I enjoyed dickin around in the interviews more than the thought of making it on the show.
Thanks for the info Milo. I'm turning 18 soon and getting ready to go to college, and I was really considering applying for the Real World. The college I'm going to has a very..'free' schedule' with classes starting every month. So I'd have enough free time to be on the show, and come back for challenges. Who wouldn't want to come straight outta high school to embarrass themselves on TV?
Something tells me applying for the show would be more entertaining then the show itself.
That's so sketch. They can FORCE you to do a challenge??? What if you want to, yanno, return back to your life and go back to school, make money, etc.
I bet they've never forced anyone back yet though...it's probably just a cautionary clause in case theyre short cast members for a particular challenge (because I'm sure they have 10842397 contracts with MTV, etc). Anyways, they have too many *** clown regulars who would probably suck Murray's....well. Yeeeeeahhhh.
Too far? lol

Someone is being forced to show up at the reunion show. Yes, they can insist given the terms of the contract.
The viacom legal position is that it has invested in the RW/RR cast members, and the failure to perform under the contact is grounds for a legal claim for the cost of production... into the millions. It is a position with which I agree.
I get the binding contract for reunions...no question, as it pertains to the same season. But to say "Hey, not only do you have to do X, but you have to give up another 4 months for Y" seems like a totally different thing.
I'm not doubting what Milo said the contract had in it, I'm just saying that's an intense thing to sign off on.

I believe that its probably in the contract...I think its an intense thing to sign off on as well, but I think when your in the moment of being a finalist and one step away from being on The Real World, you will sign damn near anything. Plus, from what I heard they have worse stuff than that in the contract...

I agree, I'm sure there's a lot more ***ked up shit in there.

You totally should apply. Now is the perfect time in your life to do things like this, you never know when or if you will have the opportunity again. And plus then you can be our Inside man and we'll be your fan base.
I think the way Milo described it it sounded more as if you had to do A challenge if asked not that specific one. So you could probably turn it down if the timing want right, but at some point you would have to do one. I doubt the contract says that you have to do the next challenge or a specific challenge.

I can't remember exactly what was said about challenges except that you were required in the contract to be available for them, at least for awhile.

Does seven years ring a bell?
Yeah I'd say that sounds right to me.
Milo,
I heard they drop some $ your way for bills you'll have at home, etc. Is that accurate and if so, do you remember the amount? I'm curious if it's even worth trying out if you live on your own with electric bills, telephone and rent to pay and you'll be leaving all of that behind. I'm starting to believe that the casting process caters more to college students or people who live at home with their parents lol.

BMP is about the cheapest production company on the planet, not that it's universally a bad thing. I (and a bunch of others) wish they would pay their employees more.

Anyone be able to give some sort of a range?
Anyone be able to give some sort of a range?
I seem to remember someone throwing between $8,0000-$12,000, but someone please correct me if I am wrong because this is strictly just from memory of someone's post.
is that something people get at the very end of the show or at the beginning?
Are you asking about the Real World pay or the Challenges?
Doesn't matter. The answer for RW is weekly, and for Newbies on the challenge its weekly.

There is nothing in this thread regarding any payment for expenses as described. I'm not aware of anyone who has had those expenses paid for them and we have never negotiated that kind of payment for any other reality show. It is often a deal breaker for many people, but no production company has any problem finding people who would be almost willing to pay to be on TV.
I thought about applying for Big Brother, and on their application it had a paragraph about compensation for every week you are on the show unless you are in the final two (and are already getting money).

Most reality shows have a weekly stipend which some production companies call "per deim."
The question that was posed earlier was if they give you something to cover expenses at home while you are taping the show. That is a different matter that being compensated for your appearance (occasionally it is not surprisingly called the "appearance fee")

Yes, I was referring to the RW pay. I heard they compensate you but I wasn't sure how much. So I guess the payments are weekly from the time you get there. No payment before that when you initially sign the contract.

That was never brought up and I highly doubt they would throw any money at cast members to help with that either.
Maybe they do now, but not when I was in the casting process.

How long ago were you in the casting process?
Cause, Hello.....in the Real World, ya gotta pay the rent. :D
If you watched the Denver season ( gosh I bet your all surprised that I know it so well) you will hear a phone conversation between Brooke and her Mom. In it they discuss all the expenses that Brooke has for her LA apartment while she is in Denver filming the show. The only one helping her is MOM!!!

Bottom line: MTV doesn't care about your personal problems. There is always someone just outside the casting office door ready to take your place in an instant if you even blink an eye.
