I'm wondering when are they going to bring road rules back, and do it right. No more viewer polling and no more voting off.
I loved the polling! Er....well....I loved rigging the polling! We made a fun game out of it. I think our network was kicking out between 75 and 100 votes a second 24 hours a day/ 7 days a week. :D
In all seriousness, I wish they would go back to the missions, the journey and the one cast for the entire season. However, with the ratings as bad as they were this winter for RR14 I really don't see the show returning....ever.
The ratings were bad because they strayed fromt he original formula. There have been too many new people on these challenges. Let the pressure be with having to live with people for however many months in the same RV, not who's going home. I wish they would understand that the ratings were low cause they keep trying to "make it better" leave well enough alone and bring back the original idea. I miss it...plus out vets are getting old...

In my opinion the problem was not the format. The problem was that the expectations of fans has changed over the years. That is why the Real World is no longer the flagship of the network. Instead it is The Hills.
Reality is not good enough anymore. It is not exciting enough. Now if you call it reality and write scripts where you just gob on the drama every episode, it sells the audience. Who wants to wait around for something good to happen when you can just tell the actors to do something good? That gets ratings and is why Road Rules will never return.
Can you image this season on the Real World, 30 seconds after Dunbar and Ashli had sex the doorbell rings...and Julie is at the door? SURPRISE! Hahaha....that is The Hills and I wouldn't be surprised if by Real World 25 it is totally staged too....

yeah I know what you mean, Road Rules just stopped being interesting. I wouldn't be suprised if they did start staging scenarios on the real world...or even if they already do.
LMAO at the "Julie at the door if it was the Hills" comment...
While I agree with the 'reality' not being interesting enough anymore, I also think the format had something to do with it. There were too many damn pit crew members. The only way you got to know any of them was if you were into the show enough to bother getting online and reading everyone's blogs. The cast of Vets they used were not fan favorites, but just a Montley Crew of whoever was willing and available. The voting was too easily rigged. And they never played reruns in an effort to get the ratings up during the show's actual timeslot. Part of mtv IS reruns. I never watched Laguna Beach season 1 until a lazy Saturday where they played the first six or seven eps of the first season, and then I was hooked. It's been like that with a lot of Mtv shows. Unless people knew the concept and knew when it would be on from the beginning, it was just too confusing to pick it up four or five episodes in.
Yeah, I was just saying that my personaly reason for not watching the last few seasons was the format. I don't like all the viewer participation or the voting off. It makes it hard to see a journey when everyone's so scared about getting voted off and newbies coming in once a week.

You actually have to go all the way back to Maximum Velocity Tour (2000) to find a season without voting. Of course, Revenge on the Viewers was the first time that the public was allowed to attempt to alter outcomes.
In truth, the only pure Road Rules seasons were 1-7 as SOS was on a freaking boat and after that MVT added that stupid Road Master.
How about they do a Season 15 and Call it Road Rules: Classic. We obviously didn't like the "New Coke" so take it off the shelves and bring back what works! ;)

Gotta love that analogy! :D
Some of the voting off wasn't bad, especially when people ended up staying even though being voted off was a threat, but with time they took it too far, you know.
i think Road Rules will return eventually.
I HOPE SO BECAUSE IM TIRED OF SEEING SOME OF THE FRESH MEAT OUTSTAY THEIR WELCOME
i think Road Rules will return eventually.
I don't think so. A few weeks ago it was reported that BMP was casting for Real World 21 and Road Rules 15. On their casting site it had both shows listed. Now it just says Real World 21. Road Rules 15 has been removed from the submission page, probably forever.
The ratings have been heading down hill since the show's debut. Road Rules Viewer's Revenge was a last attempt to revive a dying series and it failed.

As of today, I am officially too old to be on Real World. Sigh. Maybe I could still send in a tape and I would be interesting enough....errr crazy enough that it wouldn't matter? :D

I know me too as of a couple of months ago. I think we are too old for just about any MTV reality show...well the majority of them anyway.
Maybe we can audition for the Hills.... are you a good actress?? ;)
Actually I am not too bad...better than most of them on the show anyway, LOL.
BMP site says you can now send in DVDs. Glad to know they've joined the race for technology. Maybe i'll make one if I can get to it this weekend.
You should do it...We should make a list of a bunch of things that are sure to get your video noticed :)

I am so jealous!!
However I will not let that stop me from listing away...Forgive me for anything unoriginal because I haven't seen but a couple of videos over the years that I can remember .
You could try filming the video naked, LOL...that seems to be what MTV goes for judging by the sydney cast ;) haha
But seriously, are there any requests on what you are about in life...what I mean is like what someone said in an earlier post (probably on another thread) that for the Hollywood cast they asked for career drivin people
Is there any information about a new Road Rules? I didn't really care for the last season but I am curious about a new one....hopefully not a viewers voting thing.
I didn't even see this forum. My bad. I agree with the idea that they tried to hard to make it better. I think that goes with Real World too. I think they are trying too hard about who they select for the show. I think that they pick these people out of past roomate personalities. I think they just really need to start fresh.

Welcome DarkSamurai! No problem. I just moved you other post over here.
I agree that they seem to have a prototypical mold that they use when selecting the cast. I guess they figure that if something worked in the past it will work again in the future. The problem with that is after each successive generation of cloning, a little something gets lost in the process. Eventually they just have a watered down version of what they were trying to emulate.

There wasn't this time around....needless to say, I didn't submit for this time-around but I will next time. I was just too busy doing holiday stuff to get my act together....oops

I also which they'd bring RR back. At least give it one more chance. I would MUCH prefer a RR season than another Fresh Meat challenge. With a RR season, we could possibly get a nice background on the people and get to know them and have some prior knowledge of them and see them grow. All they have to do is get a good cast, have good missions, and possibly incorporate vets in a different way - like being a mission master or hosts or something like that.
i agree with the Road Rules part completely, I see why they did that last RR with bringing in old cast members to regenerate interest in it, but IMO they should have kept it the same
Wishing will not make it so. Road Rules suffered from being painful on the MTV budget and having dismal ratings. The people who earn six figures could not find a way to save the show from itself.
"Save the show from itself..." so true. It seems like they just kept trying to make the show crazier and crazier, but really...missions don't have to be ridiculous to be good.
I know, sadly. I was really shocked when they brought us the Viewer's Revenge season. My personal opinion is that MTV puts out so many different reality shows, some good, and some not, that I don't see why it would hurt them much to do another Road Rules. I don't know if it's an MTV issue or a BMP issue, though. It would help them out for future challenges, and those usually do very well for them. I'd love to have a good old RW vs. RR team challenge again, but I don't think we will ever see them again.

What members of the crew, cast and someone with insight at the management level told me was that the "Viewers Revenge" show concept was great but that it was constrained but things which led to its failure.
Money: This was to be a low-budget remake of Road Rules. The low budget meant that they would combine studio shooting with the road missions generally in the Southern California area, all on a short week (three day) shooting schedule The pit battles would take place in a small rented studio near BMP that instantly proved inadequate to the task, at least making that part of the production look like something from a local access cable channel.
Cast: The new cast largely never clicked with viewers. The "something for everyone" approach with the casting of Veronica, Susie, Kina, Abram, Shane and Adam appeared to be classic casting, but failed to account for the likelihood that the Road Rulers would 1) use all the tricks learned on the challenges to maintain the veteran's hold on the RV; and, 2) form a core bond of veterans based on outside friendships. In a game where majority votes were the rule, people playing as individuals were at a serious disadvantage.
The Pit Crew concept was intended to allow new cast members to become known and establish their individual fan base, as had occurred during Fresh Meat. The savvy actions of the Road Rulers and production's inadequate exposure of the pit crew impaired the fan's opportunity to develop a connection with most of the pit crew.
Production: Perhaps the most damage to the success of the show was the inability of the producers James E. Wade, Rick de Oliveira, Paul Sutera, and co-executive produce Dana DeMars to affect any needed change which the show obviously needed. They couldn't bring their experience to bear because all the shots were apparently being called by Jon Murray himself -- the BMP boss. His hands-on involvement in daily production of the show brought any other creativity to a quick stand-still and there is no evidence that he ever responded creatively to audience dissatisfaction with where the show was headed.
