Fox's new TV series "Empire" has brought an already familiar scenario of moguls in the hip hop industry, but with twists and turns that leave you wanting more.
When Lucious Lyon suspects he is ill, he informs his three sons, Andre- the business mogul, Jamal- the talented gay middle son, and Hakeem, the spoiled young rapper, that he is grooming one of his sons to take over the Empire Company.and thus the drama ensues.
meanwhile, Lucious' ex wife and the sons' mother Cookie is released early from jail after 17 years. We find out that Cookie took the fall for a drug deal so that Lucious could focus on becoming a famous rapper. during her time gone, Lucious divorces her and her sons don't visit her. She gets out with the intentions of getting what is owed to her, as her 400,000$ is what started the company. We watch as the sassy and honest Cookie struggles to find her way back into her sons' lives, the sons compete to become the head of the company, and Lucious deals with finding out he has ALS, with only a few years left. With love triangles, murder, homophobia, and hot music , this show touches all the bases and is worth watching.
I have personally loved every episode so far. the music is AMAZING- I love that these actors actually are singing these songs. The fact that Timbaland produces the music says it all.
lucious leaves a disgusting taste in my mouth. He is straight cold blooded, with no change in sight even with his condition. I cried in the scene involving the high heels, and when Cookie is telling Jamal as a young boy that no matter what, she has his back.
i really wanted Cookie to sock Anika in the face. Clearly Anika is very jealous of Cookie. honey, put that attention on these other girls he's actually getting with. That's the mother of his children and she made the ultimate sacrifice for him.
i predict in the end that the empire will actually go to Cookie.

The first episode didn't exactly reel me in like I had hoped but I was interested enough to keep watching and I really liked the second episode so I'll be watching from here on out. I pretty much don't like anyone but Cookie on the show. I liked Jamal until he didn't show up for Cookie after everything she did. His brother is by far the worst though.
Agreed! You can tell he didn't have a mom raising him by how spoiled and disrespectful he is. I like Jamal too, I was also upset he didn't show up. He shouldnt care if he's cut off because he could make a lot of money when he comes out!
Cookie is my favorite character on TV. Talk about a feisty, strong, and loyal woman. She made the most sacrifices for the family, and I can't wait for karma to work its magic!
I'm in love with this series. Lucius looks like a selfish ******* but he has some type of good to him considering he actually did cut off that Kid FooFoo guy for straight up disrespecting Cookie in the elevator.
I think he realized she's done nothing but hold him down, and all he is doing is disrespecting her. Especially when she says his old lyrics, damn. What a change of mind! I think money bought his soul, and cookie is reminding him of the man he USED to be

I love this show. Finally a show on FOX, a music show at that that isn't one race .
Unfortunately some people view it as a "black show" which is really upsetting because to me, I see them showing all different races, lifestyles, etc. just because the main people are black. But CMON lets be honest the hip hop industry IS mostly black. This show is deep on so many levels and I can't believe some people can't even see that and are ignorant because of the color of someone's skin.

I love Cookie but I also have a love/hate relationship with Lucious. I really like Lucious this season. The 1st 2 episodes so far this season have been amazing but I'm done with the cameos
I would love for the white girl from hustle and Flow to pop in though, ngl
I think it really depends on the cameos. If it's someone playing the celebrity in real life, it comes off as natural as with pitbull and Neyo. But Chris Rock as a cannibal murderer running the streets and Marisa tomei as a rich investor is too much.
I hated Hakeem last season but I'm liking the growth im seeing from him. And Cookie will always be my favorite

The last episode was so good in my opinion. I liked the rap battle between Freda Gatz and Hakeem but the best part was with Anita being the limo driver for Hakeem's new girlfriend.

Just watched two first episodes and love it.
I am season 1 and that little girl came and Olivia told its Jamal daughter and I do not understand why this show handeled that situation like this. There is something called DNA testing and big rich families usually do this first thing and I am kinda annoyied they did not do that. Same thing happened in Gossip Girl too with Dan.

Into season 2 episode 2 right now and now I really like Lucious, I like him when he is in prison. Before I just hated him but now, he is so cooll.

So glad that you are liking it. A lot of people hated season 2 so far for the cameos but otherwise its a good show. The spin-off, Star, sounds like bullshit though
