Without knowing the circumstances, it's kind of hard to judge Jason or his father either way. Well, Jason really can't be judged as he doesn't have anything to do with it. But for surface level? Yeah I'd say it's pretty odd that the father suddenly wants something to do with his son as he's conveniently going on reality tv.
But then again, maybe the dad had wanted to find him before. It's really hard to say.

1. Her being a Triplet is not a worthy enough skeleton
