One of my friends made it to the final casting stage and told everyone about it from the start, even posted his video he sent in online. Given he didn't make it but he still made it to the end of the casting process. (I think they would have been on Portland or the one prior)

The fact your friend didn't make the show still makes me think they aren't okay with it. I think if you tell people about getting a simple email about casting who knows what you will tell about what happened during filming before the show airs.
