I don't think it's entirely fair to trivialize his wins because of the era. That's no one's fault how the show was set up then.
Even good competitors back then weren't securing four wins back-to-back. Never mind that FM is no different from modern formats with it being in pairs, and the teams that season would give a lot of recent duos a run for their money.
The people we say would benefit from the previous era could still not have won. Look at what happened to the vets on Gauntlet 2.
Champs today could very well have never been champs back then. It's easy to say those wins are lesser but this game is nuanced and easier finals with more people didn't make everyone a four-time champ. Not Abe, Brad, Evelyn, Coral, Rachel etc.

sla - worst season of all time, all stars 3 - boring after he left, ride or dies - boring after veronica/him and jay/michelle left
usa 2 - awful season besides winners, s39 - worst season since SLA
