unDEEservered ratings after last nights episode. should be lower

So they did good but dropped from episode 1

Teen mom went down to the 700k mark and Jersey shore to 800k mark. The challenge is still MTV number 1 show currently airing for 2 weeks in a row.

Saw this tweet and it's on point since in my opinion the challenge for a while was an  unappreciated show compared to others like Jersey Shore/Teen Mom

Awesome

Wow I had no clue jersey shore ratings dipped that low. At one point it was doing 8-9 million viewers consistently... a long time ago but still lol. I thought the challenge ratings were bad because they have a huge cast from every show known to man but Im turning my tide considering its the number show on mtv lmao.

I think when you consider how much of a dying network MTV is the fact that The Challenge ratings are managing to go up is a near miracle. Solid promotion & rookie casting were probably big factors, along with a pretty loyal audience carrying over

Those ratings were back in 2008 or 2010.  When that show was actually watchable, entertaining and almost everyone had cable now a lot of people have different streaming services. After coming back like 2 years ago it got 1.2 millions but tbh a lot of people have lost interest in watching that.

Highly doubt the rookies casting had anything to do with it. None of these people (rookies/vets) that big of following to affect rating in a big way.

Jersey shore is so terrible now lol makes sense

I always feel dumb but I never understand ratings. Don't they come based on people with a Nielsen box? And if it just so happens most Nielsen families don't watch a show then a show has bad ratings, and it doesn't take into account of actual viewership? Or is that a whole other category? Any explanation would be most helpful lol

agreed. They just have been promoting it like crazy. I've never seen so many commercials for it on random tv stations as well as social media. They did a great job with that.

unless Meryl Streep decides to take a whack at the Challenge I don't see casting doing to much to change viewership. Unless they brought on bigger name newbies or bigger name oldies that brought back people that stopped watching.

Who the hell would tune in to watch Meryl Streep on the challenge lmao

Nobody care about those dinosaurs except people that live in the past & dont understand that we are not in early 2000s anymore.

In my opinion they should retire Wes, CT and Bananas (except queen Laurel) that are old/dusty start moving the vet focus to the cast members that were part pf the Invasion underdog era.

No matter how many times you tell him, he's still going to want old schoolers that last appeared 10 years ago on this show. That's what he does and there's no changing him.

The only OG anyone is getting back is Aneesa. All the other dinosaurs either have new jobs or kids. The days of Coral Tina Beth KellyAnne Susie Evelyn Paula Veronica Landon Darrell Tori Kenny Evan Mark Jenn Svetlana Derrick Chet Alton and many more are long gone. It's time to accept that

Agreed but including Chet is so random. He was trash.

lol didn't this site break down when Veronica was announced? As a person who lives in the present, I will forever strongly agree to disagree with you on this subject

Who the hell would tune in to watch Meryl Streep on the challenge lmao

lol that was an extreme example but I meant someone who is super famous. That was the first name that popped in my head lol

lol the males are less iconic imo so that's not surprising.

back to my original post regarding ratings (sorry for bringing alum up in this post, that's clearly meant for other rants in more appropriate threads lol) - how does it actually work?  Is it all based on Nielsen ratings or do they actually look at the real number of people watching?

lol the fans that follow this site are the kind of fans who will watch no matter what.  i cant think of a single friend of mine who would watch this show just bc veronica even though they knows who she is. they cant tell you who a cooke or kendall is.  people forget venmo is like .01 percent of viewership and most of us are super fans, they dont give a **** who we want to see.

That was before the casting pool got opened up to shows like Big Brother and Survivor, which you constantly say for some reason that they shouldn't be on this show

It wasn't over Veronica it was during the cast revealed that I was updating in groups and people kept refreshing this site to see if I made any update to the point of making it crash. So it wasnt over anyone in particular it was over people wanting to see the complete cast on the lock thread and you can check that with B.

The key demographic of this show which is the one that has gone up is the young one which I guarantee you 90% of them doesnt care about those dinousaurs.

not Dino's - legends that deserve a spot Blum 3

but, once again, regarding ratings: is it just Nielsen ratings networks still go off of, or do they actually look at full viewership?

They look at demographics primarily. They make money mostly off advertising revenue therefore the specific 12-34 age demo have to be a certain level to maintain high ad dollars. Basically they look at everything but more strictly the 12-34 age group because that's were the most money is.

Well it's steady and consistent as long as they stay in that range I wouldn't worry if I were MTV

Its currently their biggest show over other show that get better promotion like teen mom, Jersey shore and even floribama shore but get lower ratings lol
