I hope the spoiler team can reveal something about it, but CT coming in later in the game and missing the challenge where six people are eliminated without doing anything, that would be really sketchy and would make me angry even as a CT fan especially since somebody like Darrell lost only by a foot...

Sounds like he lost redemption by a foot. Not the challenge. But you're right. CT either should have had to be in that first missio or honestly, start from redemption if he came in late for it to be fair. Sounds like they are just trying to get him money. If they want him to have money and the good father storyline, just pay him money behind the scenes. Dont shove it dont our throats ya know.
