Why did Wes pick Casey as his partner on Fresh Meat?
I have always wondered.Since the first episode Wes told Casey that she was not athletic nor smart.During the selection process Wes asked Casey what have happened during the trials and why did she perform poorly. But still there were a lot more girls left,if I can recall Linette and Diem were some of the girls that were left, who were probably more athletic than Casey. The only other evidence I have is that during the Fresh Meat after show ,Shane mentions that Wes told him that he was really digging that chick(Casey) and Shane encourage him to pick her.But still why would he?I do not get it.Did something behind the scenes happen that most people don´t know?
Yeah, I remember hearing his reasoning for picking her was that he thought Casey was the best looking of the remaining girls. I can remember if it was only mentioned on the aftershow or if it was mentioned on the actual episode.

I also remember him saying that all three of them were a lose-lose situation or something like that. He said all the girls that were left sucked.
Thanks. I thought I saw it on the show as well. I didn't watch Shane's aftershow, but I thought maybe it could have been said there and I read about it on a message board. Though Casey was obviously not a great athletic partner, she was a submissive person, which probably suited Wes and his attitude (at least at that point in time) just fine. Although he obviously got angry with her a few times.
Here was the picking order.

Danny picks Evelyn (red)
Coral picks Evan (brown)
Darrell picks Aviv (green)
Tonya picks Johnnie (light blue)
Theo picks Chanda (grey)
Tina picks Kenny (orange)
Wes picks Casey (maroon)
Johanna picks Jesse (yellow)
Derrick picks Diem (blue)
Katie picks Eric (lime green)
Shane is left with Linette (pink)
Melinda is left with Ryan (purple)
He had between Diem and Linette. ] Diem was good, but he figured an extremely skinny girl with cancer would hurt his chances and Linette is an anorexic girl with NO athletic ability whatsoever. Plus, Casey did GOOD in the running, lol. He figured she was the best choice.
Casey 40 yard dash: 7.22 seconds Up and over: 8 min, 59.21 sec. Hand-eye coordination: 1 out of 5 Logic: 9 min, 34.78 sec. Linette 40 yard dash: 7.66 seconds Up and over: 57.72 seconds Hand-eye coordination: 0 out of 5 Logic: 3 min, 15.92 sec. Diem 40 yard dash: 7.59 seconds Up and over: 33.88 seconds Hand-eye coordination: 0 out of 5 Logic: 3 min, 9.14 sec. Casey was a little quicker in the running, but the up-and-over and logic times should have been a big red flag. I guess he figured he could just throw her over walls if they were competing together. I don't agree that Linette had no athletic ability. She and Shane managed to win two challenges, both of them races (deflating kayaks and swimming with sharks). He picked the worst partner, but got lucky that she happened to have lighter luggage than most of the girls. Personally, I didn't really care for that twist. Given how he interacted with her, I'd speculate he was more interested in air time than competing. Picking the prettiest girl (in his view) would fit with that.

That was the reasoning he gave on the show. I am surprised she was a little faster than Diem and Linette in the sprint, though. BUT, she wasn't THAT much faster than them, just fractions of a second. So even though she had a slight advantage over them in that area, looking at the huge difference in a couple of the other areas, she didn't look like a great choice by stats overall. No one knew Diem had cancer at that point. She told Derrick later in the game, and not everyone knew about it during the show, if I recall correctly. And Blamo is right - Linette did well on some missions. She definitely was more competent than Casey.
Wes would definitely have thought Logic wouldn't matter because he'd be smart enough to figure out any logic stuff on his own (his thinking, NOT mine! haha) But yah, definitely he picked her for her looks. Pretty sure he wouldn't go for that strategy again but, you never know.
I didn't like the way Wes treated Casey. Yeah she really wasn't that good a competitor but he needed to realize that he is stuck with her and he has to make the best of it. Telling her she is worthless and calling her a ***** was not going to help him or her.

BUT... being an athlete myself and being unable to stand incompetance I can imagine being tempted to treat her the same way. I'm the kind of person who wished that Canaan had pushed Mika down the **** waterslide (if anyone watches Amazing Race and gets the analogy). Casey is a waste of space. Please remove her from my television. Wes I at least find entertaining, although, I'm sure I'd hate him in real life.
Imagine if Wes had been able to pick Ev... They would have run away with that season. I can't remember, how did they determine the order the veterans got to choose their Fresh meat? Was it just 'random' draw? (quote marks because I don't think anything on reality shows is ever random) I think I need to re-watch that season.

Sorry, you don't push your girl friend down a water slide, a million dollars or not. It's called respect. I might be competitive but I have integrity. I'm glad in the end Canaan said something like it wasn't worth a million (though it wasn't actually a million, considering taxes and he'd only get half)... they're definitely a good couple to me. And you certainly don't treat someone like the way Wes did.
