What Could Be Done to Improve the Challenges?
I agree. I get the feeling that the footage the producers got during The Gauntlet is no better than what they got during Inferno 3, the only difference is it's edited really well. I also think the Gauntlet has the best music out of any season. There are a couple songs I downloaded only because I heard them on the Gauntlet. One moment that sticks out to me is when Sarah is facing Irulan in the Gauntlet, and they are share some of Sarahs thoughts right before Irulan falls. That Gauntlet lasted about 45 minutes, and I'd guess the first 40 minutes were very boring. By putting some of Sarah's thoughts into the scene they took some boring footage and made it interesting.
I agree with this. When I was watching the episode, they had Sarah voice-overs during her last Gauntlet, and her commentary kind of fooled us into thinking she might lose. That's the kind of editing the current challenges should try and emulate. Instead of showing tons of footage of the person going to be eliminated the first 5 minutes of the episode, and then ignore them for the rest of the episode.
I also hate how sometime the challenge and even Real World episodes look like a movie, If anyone knows what I'm talking about.
Yes, I know what you mean. I agree for Real World specifically that it doesn't feel right, since the show was more documentary style in the beginning. I don't need for it to go back to exactly how it was back then, but I would like for the letterbox (the black bars at the top and bottom of the screen) to go (and maybe any really fancy camera work). I thought the "look" of the show was fine before then. I guess they changed it because of HD being a big format now. For the challenge, I like that there is better production for certain things, like the sets for elimination rounds sometimes (i.e. Inferno 2's set looked way better than the first Inferno challenge, IMO). I do think some things are good improvements. It can make things look more professional and like things weren't simply thrown together. But this is also a reality TV show and I feel sometimes the intimacy of the show is lost, if that makes sense. It's kind of like when performers do stadium shows and then say they want to scale things back by doing an arena show or shows in a smaller venue. Anyway, for the challenge, the lack of intimacy/close moments with the competitors is probably something that could largely be blamed on editing, though, but I think the direction/production could have something to do with it.
Hi there. I only read a couple of pages so, if this idea has already been thrown out there..sorry. I think it would be kind of cool if they kept voted off cast members on location (not in the same house of course) and used them in the final battle. It would make spoilers a lot more difficult and I think would make for a more interesting final. Plus, they could tape that house as well and use the footage in their own dailies section. I'm sure the footage would be a lot more off the wall with the cast offs having the pressure of the game taken off. Sure it would cost more but, I bet it would be more popular in the long run.
Interesting idea Tiggrr, but very unprobable. And Welcome to Vevmo!

We are too! One thing I thought of was why don't they show the Reunion in it's entirety instead of just clipping stuff out, that cast could potentially want to see?

Remember when the aired the Duel reunion live? And Overdrive got its most traffic to date? You'd think they'd learn.
Yup. I mean it is always nice to see all the stuff they talk about.

There's been something I dislike that the cast has done. The last three challenges Island, Duel 2, and The Ruins (speculating) that a main alliance takes control of the game. Everyone else just follows them. In the past there really wasn't an alliance that took complete control, and as soon someone knew about it, those in the alliance where eliminated, or confronted. I hope the new generation won't take that crap from anyone, and they will try their best.
Their isn't really a way to improve that Producer, but the game rules could be created so that it doesn't favor the large alliance. Which is something I would love to see.

Save us Cancun and Brooklyn! I'm hoping that the cast for those seasons dont take anything from anybody. Thats what makes the show interesting. It's like a war. It happened with Coral and Julie, Katie and Veronica, Evelyn/KellyAnne and Johanna-Paula-Kenny-Johnny-Derrick, Susie/Cara and Kina.... oh yeah and Evil Beth's Alliance vs The Drama Mafia. LOL. All of those seasons were interesting because of these things... well except The Island.
I think the cast needs to be more corageous, but in a game with money at stake like that, I understand that they may not want to sit and fight the numbers. In some cases. I have always though that they need to surprise the cast with eliminations and missions. That way they have to be mentally preparing and physically always.
I also feel like BMP doesn't want to step outside their boundaries when it comes to the rules they hardly ever have twist, the teams never change during mid-season, it's always the same rules throughout the season. I think time is overdue to switch it up, suprise the audience and cast members AND GET DIFFERENT GAMES FOR THESE GAUNTLETS/INFERNOS/DUELS/ instead of picking cards or spinning a wheel seriously sliders on Gauntlet 3 was so boring to watch every episode.
That is great DaCollegeKid. They really need to do a twist. I understand the one time they tried, The Island, it failed, but I think it failed because of lack of promotion. It really sucks to see them rehash the same formulaic show over and over. There needs to be constant twists, things to hsake the game up, and peak the interest of the viewers. I also thought of something. I understand some may not want to do Challenges, but invite them or offer. People like Coral, who have oddly proven to bring in a lot of ratings on their Challenge, should be asked back, or at least given a call. You never know when situations may change and they could accept.

The top two winners of a challenge ends up being two new team captains and they have to pick new teams
The top winner of a challenge ends up finding out they have to automatically send someone home no duel or anything, any person they want.
Incorporate a rule where a voted off cast member can come back
Maybe even having three teams or more
True. Even if the twist isn't something completely game-changing. Just constant switches or every here and there, so that the game doesn't stay the same.
I like the idea of a cast member having to vote someone to the oppposite team maybe that can spice up some of these alliances
I know this might be impossible, but since Road Rules isn't in production anymore, what if MTV casted stars of their other reality shows to be on the challenges? I think it would be some fresh people and they can stir up drama (like people from The Hills and shows like "A Shot at Love"). The challenges seem to lack a good amount of drama these days and also exciting competition.
DPlayer, the whole point of the show is for it to be The Real World and Road Rules competing. Not other shows.

The people from the Hills would never do that, it hate it say it but they are way more famous than anyone from the Real World/Road Rules/Fresh Meat for that matter. They get paid a lot more. They are way two different kinds of shows. $65,000 an episode..for one of the Hills stars. The shot at love people would be random and I doubt anyone remembers them. Also..it is called Real World/Road Rules Challenge. I think the only exception was Fresh Meat because they came on the challenge. They weren't random people from other reality shows. I think a Fresh Meat 2 would be a good idea though.
A Fresh Meat may not be a bad idea, but I remember V saying the idea is pretty much burried so, I think it may not happen again.
DPlayer, the whole point of the show is for it to be The Real World and Road Rules competing. Not other shows.
I know its just for Real World/Road Rules. It could have been renamed just "The Challenge" but the whole concept will probably be boring after a while. Speaking of Fresh Meat, a similar concept would be a Fans vs. Favorites challenges. How does that sound?
- They need to refresh the cast... I mean, don't they think people get tired of seeing the same people that do consecutive challenges? I'm not sure how they cast/select players so I may be out of line. - I also think Sequels should no longer happen. If it's an individual challenge, come up with a new format/name. You don't have to always name an individual challenge 'The Duel' or a small cast 'Inferno' etc. - They could also be more experimental with how they make teams and the process of the game. - Don't cast people who have issues back at home, issues with their job, or cast people who have BAD history that may break into a huge fight. That will avoid having to find replacements.
Fans? I don't think that would work at all.

As bad as most of The Fresh Meat are and how little they add to the challenges I wouldn't want a new crop of random people coming in.

It wouldn't make sense. FM people bring a lot the challenge, I think its interesting that were never on a real season of Real World or Road Rules and they dominate. Just my opinion. You don't have to agree with me.

The only ones I could see that would MAYBE Bring something to the table would be Kenny and Evelyn. The rest are just not interesting and/or One Trick Ponies. I'm just stating my opinion here. I hope I'm not coming off as rude or anything.
