So it has been said that Survivor Gabon is returning to Survivor 1. What does that mean exactly? Well it has been said that it means No more Exile Island or Immunity Idol. Also, it has been said that there will be a more Diverse group of people and less actors. What do you guys think?

Cestriano is so wrong. TRW/RR created the whole reality tv genre but even then they didn't as that show from the 80's where the guy would talk to random strangers on the street was the first true reality series. ya dig. Survivor 1 revitalized it, if that.
People are now believing that Chrystal Cox will be retired for a couple of years. On the list of Bios for the USATF Web site she is NOT listed.... Maybe its because she is going to be on Survivor! :)
I agree with you, Estee, but I think Crystal is retired from the competitive circuit. Here is the list of bios from USTF, and she isn't listed. Looking at her stats ( http://www.trackandfield.com/bios/women/crystal-cox/), I believe she is retired for a couple of years. Th US Olympic T&F trials are June 27 - July 6, 2008, so she couldn't have waited to see if she made the team before heading to Survivor. ::eyes bug out:: hahaha Oh that would definitely be interesting if she was on Survivor because she looks like she could go the distance. Plus she went to North Carolina so I would be pulling for her to make it to the end. However, there is also another part of the game and players may see her as a threat so that may lead to her leaving earlier than she normally would if enough agree.
Survivor is set to air September 18 2008. :) [via IMDB]
I just found out that another cast member of Survivor Gabon is supposed to be a very strong older lady.
For a couple of weeks now, I've been corresponding with someone (who wishes to remain anonymous) that claims they have info on a contestant. To prove they are who they told me they are, they sent me some stuff, and it checked out. No offense to said correspondent if you're reading, but I'm telling you what people, it's been like pulling teeth. I do have a few details to share though - - A very strong, older lady -
[via iB::Topic::Survivor: Gabon Contestant Spoilers]
There's always a very strong older person lol
Yeah thats true. So from what I read so far we have: A Video Gamer A very strong older woman and Chrystal Cox (who by the way is someone who they think is definaltly going to be a cast member)
This season has some EXTREMELY LARGE shoes to fill. Micronesia was TOO amazing. If that's even possible.
Yeah last season was definitely good and this coming season will definitely be expected to be at the same level or at least near it. That being said I have a good feeling about this season and I can't wait to see how it plays out.
Agreed. Survivor Micronesia, to me, was one of the best seasons of Survivor. It will be hard to fill it's shoes but I think they can do it. I would like to see more people on there that are more like Erik and Amanda and Ozzy. Not people like.... Chet, Chicken, ect. Those former cast members (to me) are what the game is supposed to be about. So hopefully that is what we will see this season. :)
when's this season gonna air??
I believe it is set to air in September.
I loved last season and I definitely am looking forward to this one because I have heard alot of promising things about it. Plus it seems from the limited cast info or rumored that is there will definitely be some intense stuff going on this season.
If this season is anything like the past 2 seasons, it will be nothing less than amazing. On another note: Anyone here try out for Survivor 18? I believe the deadline for the video submission is today but I also believe the open casting calls are still going on. I filled out an app. but never got around to submitting a video unfortunately. I suppose there is always next year.

But that would be cool if you could have got on there so I yeah I wouldn't stop applying.
If this season is anything like the past 2 seasons, it will be nothing less than amazing.
I agree. I fell out of Survivor for a few seasons, but it feels like it has made a rebirth and I am fully looking forward to the new season in Africa.
Anyone here try out for Survivor 18?
My idea of camping involves some sort of wireless internet connection, so no, applying for Survivor has not crossed my mind, lol. The sad reality is that even though they accept applications from random people, they don't use them (for the most part) anymore to cast the show. Your best bet these days to get on Survivor is to get an agent who knows how to navigate their selection process. If you look at the last few casts, 75% are actors/models or have some history in the business. Actually, in post season interviews I have heard a variety of cast members say they were actually approached to audition for show (and didn't even want to be on it in the first place!)

I am also looking foward to the upcoming season of Survivor. If it is anything like Micronesia then it will be a very good season. I am also looking foward to watching it in HD.
I just noticed something. We will be watching 2 Survivor shows in September. The Island (supposed to be survivor like) and Survivor Gabon. Lol.
Survivor Gabon Survivor Gabon - - Earth's Last Eden The US reality TV show Survivor will take place in Gabon for its 2008 Season. Where on earth is Gabon? Where will the Survivors be during their stay? Find out all about Africa's "Garden of Eden" and how you can more than survive a visit there. Where is Gabon? Gabon is a small west African country situated on the Atlantic Coast in the central part of the continent on the equator. Gabon's neighbors include the Republic of Congo and Equatorial Guinea. See a map and more facts about Gabon... Where in Gabon Will Survivor Take Place? In 2002, Gabon's President Bongo (yes, that's his actual name) declared he would set aside 10% of his country as nature preserves and national parks. To this day several national parks have indeed been set up to protect the vast natural rain forests from further logging as they are home to unique wildlife including lowland gorillas, forest elephants, chimpanzees, and hippos. Survivor Gabon is being filmed in The Wonga-Wongue Presidential Reserve which is home to elephants, chimpanzees, buffalo, lowland gorillas and antelopes. An adjacent park along the Atlantic shore, the Pongara National Park, has some beautiful beaches where thousands of turtles nest every year and you can also see whales as well as hippos. An educated guess about the exact location of the Survivor set can be seen here. The Survivor crew has apparently set up base camp at Nyonie Camp, just near the Wonga-Wongue Reserve. What Dangers will Survivors Face in Gabon? The last time Survivor took place in Africa, the crew and cast were in Kenya where they enjoyed armed guards day and night. Gabon is a little different. The Wildlife The most dangerous element for Survivors in Gabon is probably the wildlife including numerous bugs, spiders and poisonous snakes. Gabon does not have a very established tourist economy and the wildlife is unused to humans. This is a real advantage for those interested in wildlife, but it's also dangerous because the animal populations are an unknown entity. If you're anywhere near buffalo or hippo you really have to know what you're doing because they are extremely dangerous animals. Hippos kill more humans than any other animal in Africa (besides the mosquito of course). The gorilla populations in Gabon are not habituated to humans at all yet. So they might be too shy to ever be seen, or not fearing humans, they could get much too close for comfort. The area of Gabon that Survivor is being filmed in, is famous for its Langoue Bai. Langoue Bai is a forest clearing, basically a beautiful natural grassy amphitheater in the middle of dense forest; ideal for animal watching. It's likely that some of the Survivor Gabon season will be filmed in these clearings. Diseases Diseases are plentiful in Gabon. After all, it's a tropical country in the middle of Africa, so trying to stay healthy will be a challenge for the Survivor cast and crew. You may be familiar with the Nobel Peace Prize winning Austrian Doctor, Albert Schweitzer. Dr Schweitzer set up his famous hospital in Gabon during the first World War (1913) and was known for treating the local people as human beings at a time when that wasn't a given. His hospital is still going strong and is considered to be a leader in the treatment of highly prevalent infectious diseases and how they affect the body and mind. Survivors will be trying to avoid malaria, sleeping sickness, filaria, leprosy, tropical sores, insect bites which could lead to onchocerciasis (transmitted by bloodsucking black flies, which infect the victim with parasitic filarial worms). And did I mention that Gabon also had several cases of Ebola seven years ago? Putting The Survivors Experience in Perspective Gabon is one of the most affluent countries in sub-Saharan Africa thanks to healthy oil, logging and uranium revenues. This doesn't mean everyone is living in a brick house, there's still poverty. But it does mean that if something happens on the Survivor set, help is not too far off. Gabon's medical infrastructure is considered one of the best in the region. Gabon is also a politically stable country. President Bongo has been at the helm for 40 years now and the country has been a little oasis of peace compared to other countries in the Central African region. When a country attracts many migrant workers from its neighbors, you know it's doing well. Recent travelers to Gabon noted that -- "Mauritanians man most of the small supermarkets, Cameroonians have the bar and bakery businesses wrapped up, Senegalese run the restaurants and Malians tend the market stalls while the enterprising Togolese have opened up small hotels." Libreville, the capital of Gabon, is a modern African city with plenty of 5 star hotels, decent French wine, malls and fast-food restaurants. Once the Survivors get kicked off, they'll no doubt enjoy a little R and R in a nice hotel on the beach in Libreville enjoying a cold Regab (local brewed beer). If they speak a little French they'll be reading the daily pro-government newspaper L'Union. They can also enjoy listening to some Central African beats on Gabon's best radio station -- Africa No 1. Sounds like they are perfectly safe over there! CBS better be on the ball so we don't have a disaster happen during the season. I can't wait until we see the entire cast for this.
CBS is sticking with tradition, launching the lion's share of its fall sked during fall premiere week -- with a few exceptions, thanks to the presidential election. With a vice presidential debate set for Thursday, Oct. 2, the net's top-rated "CSI" and newcomer "Eleventh Hour" won't bow until Oct. 9. Also, an Obama vs. McCain faceoff is skedded for Friday, Sept. 26, which means that night's fare will be bumped until Oct. 3. Meanwhile, CBS' other Thursday staple, "Survivor," will return a few days prior to premiere week, on Sept. 18. That means the net will get at least two weeks of "Survivor: Gabon" on the air before "Survivor: Vice President" preempts it. Other than that, CBS' fall rollout is pretty elementary. Monday's lineup returns Sept. 22 (including the series bow of laffer "Worst Week"), the Tuesday sked is back Sept. 23 (including newcomer "The Mentalist"), Wednesday bows Sept. 24 (with new sitcom "Project Gary"), while Saturday and Sunday arrive on Sept. 27 and 28, respectively. The Oct. 3 return of the Friday-night lineup includes new hourlong "The Ex-List." The early launch of "Survivor," which is back with its 17th cycle, will rep the seventh consecutive year in which CBS has brought the franchise back in the week prior to the start of the TV season. Wednesday I watch The Island and Thursday I watch Survivor. I'm hoping the Island will be better though. Aren't they getting rid of the Hidden Immunity Idol?
