I think that this is where Real World has gone off the cliff. They used to feature stories of people who were improving their lives and moving beyond stuff like that. Now they seem to cast people who they think will fall off the wagon and foster an atmosphere to make that happen on camera IMO.
Exactly. That's why I would rather they had cast someone who's okay with partying and drinking, so that we don't have to hear Brandon talking about his past all the time.
I enjoyed the first episode! I just really liked the whole cast, even Swift who I feel might get on my nerves sometimes. I feel so bad for Brandon, I hope things get better for him.
hahaha I can't believe it was Laura!!! That was funny, I like her because she seems so loving and happy and sweet. I'm excited to see how this season plays out, and hopefully ratings will go up!
I have to agree that putting a recovering addict in that situation.... it's not cool. You can look at it as he is getting this big opportunity to turn his life around but man, the temptation is so bad.

BMP has a clear history here, and it's not pretty, imo. Tonya was in rehab not long before The Ruins but that didn't stop BMP from ensuring there was alcohol available to her -- in quantity. On the surface, there appears to be an analogy, but the devil is in the details of Brandon's medical history, post-rehab. What is clear is that when this episode was edited, the decision had already been made to show Brandon as the "odd man out." Some conversant with literature and writing for the screen may recognize that his may well be "foreboding."
[Obviously, some argue Tonya should not have been there after rehab, knowing the irresponsible environment and social dynamic reality producers always seek out for the drama. Even if that were a compelling argument, for me it would not outweigh the apparent broken moral compass of the company involved.]

While I agree that the editors of the show foreshadow to the point of being spoilers, it does not take away from the reality IMO that BMP casts people that they hope will fail and do what they can to make it happen. All of their extensive casting and testing and background checking they profess to have would let them know weaknesses, particularly when it comes to alcohol. I don't think you can lock a child in a room with a grenade and pretend that you have nothing to do with the ensuing explosion.

I completely agree!
I like this episode, but with Laura I kept thinking "Ok. We get it, you're adopted."
Hey, fun fact about Laura: she's adopted!
Shots each time someone agrees?
I agree, which is strange because you two are normally the ones that most do not agree with ;)
Feel free to take that shot any time now.

You are really good at finding even the most well-hidden spoilers, I'm betting you had to hack into a secret government database to find that one. Good Job!
This cast is reminds me of a mix between NOLA and Las Vegas
Leroy = Swift
Knight = Trey
Ryan = Brandon
Dustin = Robb
Naomi = LaToya
Cooke = Laura
Jemmye = Marie
Mostly similarities in personalities.
I liked the first episode but I'm already annoyed by Brandon's whiny attitude, Toya's over the top personality and Swift's cockiness. My favorite is definitely Laura.
What I don't like is that Laura and Brandon laid it all out in the open on the first night, I mean, where's the chase, where's the mystery?

To be fair, it was one of the first things I found out about her two months ago.
I really hope Laura finds her parents. It reminds me a lot of Nany from her season. She is very open with it but maybe she should've waited because I feel like Brandon K. may not have been the right person.
Wow, the premiere was terrible. Glad you kids liked it.
I'd be more interested in your opinion if you supported with some specific commentary your view that episode 1 was terrible. :paint2:
I don't know. It's obviously that season won't be another LV2 but for some reason I kinda like it. I watched only first ep. of San Diego but I will definately will turn the second episode of St Thomas.
The premiere was AWFUL! After San Diego I thought no matter what it would have to at least be a step up from last season but no.....these people al are either incredibly grating or (even worse) incredibly boring. I've watched RW since the very first season and I've stuck it out through thick and thin but if the second episode fails to grab me in absolutely no way like the first episode did I think I'm bowing out. This cast is more of a snooze fest than even London and DC, what was the casting department thinking?!?!
I thought it was ironic that a big "plot line" was about a pile of ****........good explanation of the entire episode!
I didn't think it was that bad...a lot better than recent seasons. I thought SD was boring (like most people) and I didn't like LV2 like most people did, I thought the cast was just meh.
I love all 3 girls and Robb. I think Brandon will be a good character, especially with as much suicide there is amongst teens. Trey and Swift I find to be boring though. I didn't think this episode was that terrible. Robb and Marie will be fun.

I'm confused to your connection between Brandon and teen suicide.

...In the episode Brandon had a journal that had writings about wanting to hurt himself and kill himself...the target demographic appears to be teenagers for this show.

Ohh ok, I get it. Forgot about that part.
I wonder if it will ever get brought up that they read his journal. I don't think Trey mentioned it during the first episode, or did he?

My guess is yes since he tweeted something about feeling really bad he did that, or that he really regretted it, or something along those lines.
