I thought he was from the middle east. Such as Iraq, Iran but India could also be possible. Either way though all those countries are in Asia so thereby he would be Asian.
Either way though all those countries are in Asia so thereby he would be Asian.
I think the typification, "Asian" is more descriptive of inhabitants on the far eastern edge of the Pacific ring, even though I guess the term could be used to describe all the peoples of Asia if you wanted to be geographic in your notation. However, I don't know many Russians that call themselves Asian and most of Russia is in Asia.
After some research: The name Noor is of Arabic origin, where as Jehangir appears to be Pakistani. However, there is also "Jahangir" which is Persian. Either way, not Asian.
This agian brings me back to the fact that all those countries are in Asia. Also most people in Russia don't call themselves Asian but I find the people I talk to don't refer to themselves as asian from countries like Vietnan. They say they are vietnamese but even if they did that would be fine as it's in Asia. Russia on the other hand is in Europe and Asia (Eurasia) and so they usually are just Russian. So when refering to your definition of Asian do you mean Mongolians and the Philippines? Which countries are excluded to you?
Which countries are excluded to you?
I think the following from wikipedia explains the consensus view:
Asian people or Asiatic people is a demonym for people from Asia. However, the use of the term varies by country and person, often referring to people from a particular region or subregion of Asia. Though it may be based on residence, it is also often considered a race or an ethnicity. In North America, the term refers most commonly to people of predominantly East Asian and Southeast Asian ancestry; however, in the United Kingdom and Anglophone Africa, the term refers most commonly to South Asians. In other countries, the term is applied in a wider sense to all people from Asia or from a number of its regions. In the United States, however, Middle Eastern and Central Asian people are usually not considered "Asian."
I consider everthing that is in the contenent of Asia asian its like South America alot of people consider them speratly put they are at the end of the day just as so South American.Middle Easterns,Indians,Russian,Filipinos,Orientals are just as such Asian just sub-groups of a bigger collective
Though Russia is in Europe as well. So if you were in Russia you would be a Eurasian.
Do you mean Oriental or Asian in general cause we have Noor from Fresh Mea 2 as the first asian castmember.
To be fair, the term "Oriental" refers to objects (such as rugs), not people.
You can consider the term to mean whatever you want it to mean. I just pointed out what it means to the majority of the anglo speaking world. To me, the term "club" means a place to dance and imbibe in alcohol. It could also be defined as something used to hit baby seals or maybe a golfing implement used to break windows in an SUV. It is all about context I suspect. If someone is talking to me about the lack of Asian representation on The Real World, I find it a safe assumption they are not referring to the lack of Israelis, Syrians or Russians on the show. Take that as you will. I'm not going to go in circles with a semantic debate...
I usually go by how the "educated people", aka the news outlets say it...for example, when they're referring to the Iraq war, they don't say "the war in Asia". They say "The war in the Middle East". When I personally consider "Asian" people, I think of the far East (Japan, China, the Koreas, SE Asia). I don't think of Russia or India as a part of that.
I agree, Bacchus and molds13. It's not that people are saying that people from the non eastern parts of Asia aren't Asian people, it's just that Russians (who are typically identified as European regardless of Russia being partially in Asia), Indians, etc are not the main groups of people associated with the term Asian when describing a racial/ethnic group.
My, main point I was trying to bring forth is that people from asia have been on challenges. Also feel that they should cast soomeone from those areas of the world who are males because they haven't been represented yet. I'm hoping they cast someone who has a physical handicap so they can outline theirday to day life and show what they go through. Such as a blind person, a deaf person, someone who is wheelchair bound, someone who is vertically challenged whether it be small/tall.
And for the record: Noor's of Indian ancestry.
Is he the first person to be on one of these shows and have ancestry to India?
Is he the first person to be on one of these shows and have ancestry to India?
My advice would be to read the thread. It should give you your answer.
