The Real World Awards
SANTA MONICA, Calif., Feb. 11 -- MTV celebrates the leader of reality by bringing together the roommates from every season for "The Real World Awards Bash: Roast 'Em and Toast 'Em" (Real World Awards). Produced with Bunim-Murray Productions, MTV will premiere the first series awards show on Saturday, March 29, prior to the April premiere of the landmark 20th season, "The Real World: Hollywood." The categories and nominees will be revealed on "TRL" today through Thursday, February 14, and viewers will decide who wins by casting their votes online. Unlike the traditional award show, "The Real World Awards Bash: Roast 'Em and Toast 'Em" will combine elements from a roast event for a blow-out festivity of hijinks, hilarity and high-drama. The awards bash will focus on how "The Real World" influenced pop culture and created a trend in reality programming. Retrospective packages will highlight the funniest and most dramatic moments and show how the series has brought attention to socially- important causes, including AIDS, racism, homophobia, addiction, abortion and eating disorders. A tribute will be paid to Pedro Zamora, who gained President Clinton's support and died of AIDS the day following the last episode aired of "The Real World: San Francisco," and to "The Real World: San Diego" cast member Frankie Abernathy, who lost her battle to cystic fibrosis last year. Based on viewer voting, the winners of each "The Real World Bash" award will be revealed. The special will tape in Los Angeles. After seasons of talking amongst themselves about who are the cutest, funniest and nastiest, viewers now have a voice on MTV and will determine in an online voting poll at Real World Awards the winners of the "The Real World Bash" awards. Now through February 29, The Real World Awards site allows viewers to vote as many times as they want in 13 different categories, including "Best Meltdown," Best Fight," "Hottest Male," Hottest Female," "Favorite Love Story" and "Favorite Season." To better help people decide pictures of former roommates and video highlights will be available to review before casting votes. [Editors, please note: the online site will roll out the 13 categories during the week of February 11-15 so viewers will need to check back to vote for all awards.] "The Real World" launched the modern reality television genre and is the longest-running reality series in history. Past seasons have taken place in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, London, Miami, Boston, Seattle, Hawaii, New Orleans, Chicago, Las Vegas, Paris, San Diego, Philadelphia, Austin, Key West, Denver and Sydney. The first season, set in New York City, debuted in 1992. Each season, the show brings seven young strangers to live together in a new city and rolls the cameras 24-7, witnessing as their lives intersect, their ideas are challenged and their passions emerge. "The Real World" was created for MTV by Jon Murray and Mary-Ellis Bunim of Bunim-Murray Productions. Jon Murray, Jim Johnston and Audrey Morrissey serve as executive producers of "The Real World Awards Bash: Roast 'Em and Toast 'Em." Scott Freeman is co-executive producer. Jacquelyn French and Drew Tappon are the MTV executives overseeing the project. This looks like it will be fun to watch. I did try voting and as with most MTV web pages (although it has gotten better over the years) my browser just stalled and I gave up. However, I think this is a much better format for a reunion then what they did with the 10th, which was kind of convoluted and boring (beyond the cast mutiny.) I am looking forward to it! BTW: Does it make sense to have this before the 20th season even launches?
awesome! ill check out the site and see if my browser will workit
i just tried voting and it worked....none of the audio on the videos works (unless there isnt supposed to be any.......) and it let me vote Cameran for hottest female twice............so unlimited voting?
CAN WE MAKE SURE TRISHA WINS ROOMMATE FROM HELL?!?!?!?!?! I mean... ...yeah lets vote her, if that would be agreeable...
Mine gets stuck in a loop here forever.....
mine does too.......i kept closing that out. its not working entirely well......they should fix it
That or they're idiots and designed it that way. The little moving icons give the impression that it is still processing even though it says "Thank you for voting." I'm going to go with option B and say the same people that designed the old MTV flash monstrosity website still have jobs and they wouldn't understand a fluid user interface if it hit them in the head. ;)

This seems like a pretty fun idea. I hope it turns out that way! I am loving watching these video clips so far and couldn't help but laugh watching San Diego's Brad getting arrested...only because I remember Jaquese going on a hunger strike or something and "pouring some out." I loved the San Diego season! My favorite by far.
Oh, and sorry for back-to-back posts, but how are CT and Alex on the "hottest male" list, but not ACE?!?! I guess by default Isaac gets my vote. I don't know if he's really hot or just hilarious, but I love him either way!

Don't expect any oldies but goodies to win anything (except maybe Puck.) Hottest Female.....um.....MTV missed the boat there, totally! They have some girls on the list that were not even the hottest females from their own seasons!

let's hope this actually airs on MTV.com too
I love San Diego too. Jacquese was hysterical! the brad/robin get arrested episode was the best haha i just like how much fun they seemed to have and none of them seemed full of themselves
I think it would be awesome if before this aired they would have a RW marathon of all the seasons! I know I have stated this before, but I really barely remember many of the early seasons, and a few I think I missed completely. C'mon, they can have weeks of nothing on but like America's next Top Model, they can do a big marathon week of their flagship show damn it!

Yeah, I know. Actually if they did that I would HAVE to get a tivo as I would miss too much with work and school and what not. But that would be awesome, because I have even tried looking for some of the earlier seasons posted somewhere online and still couldn't find any.

I've also been contemplating buying New York on DVD haha

Trisha Did Not Get My Vote Because I Would Feel Like If She Won It Would Make Her Think We Like Her Which Is Not The Case I Voted For Coral Cause I Love Her =]
Are there going to be more categories? If not this whole thing might not be worth my time.
Trisha Did Not Get My Vote Because I Would Feel Like If She Won It Would Make Her Think We Like Her Which Is Not The Case I Voted For Coral Cause I Love Her =]
I heart Coral too! She never fails to make me laugh with her commentary...and she is best friends with Melissa Howard (Beck)....those two are hilarious!

Um, so I was looking @ the voting site earlier. What's up w/ Denver? Am I the only one that thought that season sucked big time?? And Coral should win "Best Damn Real Worlder of All Time" ! :) P.S I thought the Chicago Season was good...but I'm origionally from the Midwest so I may be biased...

After Real World Chicago was Vegas which damaged the series forever. Even though Chicago was the highest rated ever up until that time, The Real World Las Vegas did even better and they decided that from then on it would stop being about issues period (getting real) and all about hot people having sex, booze and fights. New York II and Chicago were two great back to back seasons about real people doing real things in the real world - better known as the "Good Old Days."

Now that I think about it yeah Vegas is about when I got tired of it. It's like people know exactly what to say/do to get on these shows and then they just 'play their part'. (Which I'm sure V1Man will say "yes of course that's what they do, they sign a contract and they play a part") :) But it's not real!! Although after seeing Parisa it gave me some hope. A real person that's not comprimising and has dignity! Wish they would get more men and women like her. (Or maybe they can do that on VH1....ha! see other post....)
guys...i totally agree about Vegas. it DESTROYED the series. I liked Chicago and NY2 as well....but Boston/Seattle remain my faves =)
I'm loyal to San Diego.
I'm loyal to San Diego.
It'd make my top 3, for sure.

What the show is now is not the fault of production, or even of the casting people (though they bear some responsibility). It is what almost everyone who applies for the show wants as their personal outcome. Invariably, it no longer has anything to do with the personal growth that comes from living under a microscope with six very diverse strangers. PS, since you don't know me or what I think, I'd advise against offering up what I may believe. Chances are that you will be wrong, as you are in this case.
