Public Enemies
I saw Public Enemies yesterday. Johnny Depp was amazing. Of course, I live in the northern Indiana/Chicago area. I already know most of the gangster stories. It was fun to see it brought to life like that. I smell some serious awards for this film. If you get the chance, see it. YouTube - Public Enemies TV SPOT #10 HQ
In the action-thriller "Public Enemies," acclaimed filmmaker Michael Mann directs Johnny Depp, Christian Bale and Academy Award® winner Marion Cotillard in the story of legendary Depression-era outlaw John Dillinger (Depp)—the charismatic bank robber whose lightning raids made him the number one target of J. Edgar Hoover's fledgling FBI and its top agent, Melvin Purvis (Bale), and a folk hero to much of the downtrodden public. No one could stop Dillinger and his gang. No jail could hold him. His charm and audacious jailbreaks endeared him to almost everyone—from his girlfriend Billie Frechette (Cotillard) to an American public who had no sympathy for the banks that had plunged the country into the Depression. But while the adventures of Dillinger's gang—later including the sociopathic Baby Face Nelson (Stephen Graham) and Alvin Karpis (Giovanni Ribisi)—thrilled many, Hoover (Billy Crudup) hit on the idea of exploiting the outlaw's capture as a way to elevate his Bureau of Investigation into the national police force that became the FBI. He made Dillinger America's first Public Enemy Number One and sent in Purvis, the dashing "Clark Gable of the FBI." However, Dillinger and his gang outwitted and outgunned Purvis' men in wild chases and shootouts. Only after importing a crew of Western ex-lawmen (newly baptized as agents) and orchestrating epic betrayals—from the infamous "Lady in Red" to the Chicago crime boss Frank Nitti—were Purvis, the FBI and their new crew of gunfighters able to close in on Dillinger.
I might check it out! Looks pretty rad, plus it has Bale.
I heard this was really good! I haven't been to the movies in a while.. but this is something I deffinetly wanna go see at some point.
I need to go see this. Two of today's best actors and my personal favorites are in it so it should be good...
Very good film. Glad it did decent at the box office. It can be a seen with anyone teenage or older, even a good date movie.
I've been wanting to see this for a while, this might be the first weekend where I can actually make that happen. The only thing I worry about is that I'm a little bit of a history buff and I can tell from the trailer they took some creative liberties. But my parents saw it and they loved it, so definitely want to check it out.
On the other hand it sounds like a pretty violent movie my 17 year old niece who I thought was desensitized to violence in movies saw it last week and she called me in horror saying "EVERYONE DIES! What the hell! That movie sucked." I told her that's pretty much what happened in real life. She was a little mad because I told her to see that instead of Bruno and she pointed out, probably accurately, that no one had to die for Bruno to get made.
It was with the guy who I believe wrote the book they based the movie off of and who they went to for advice on historical accuracy. So hopefully it will live up to your expectations!

I have heard both really good and really bad about this film, so I don't think I'd run out to the theaters to see it (which I don't for most movies lol) but I'll be interested to rent it when it comes out.
What were the bad things you heard?
Oh goodness I couldn't tell ya, just things I've heard in passing. One of our local deejays' on the radio said he didn't like it and wanted his money back, and I've just overheard people talking about it here and there, don't remember anything specific, because I don't usually take people's opinions on movies into account anyways. :)
