The best player in the league is easily bautista the best player. Saber stats would also tell he has the single highest value and WAR.
It all makes sense now. No way it is just a coincidence the Blue Jays hit that much better at home then they do on the road. Now only a few more years until we hear about Jose Bautista testing positive for HGH.

OPS at home for the sox is .855 and its .765 on the road. For the jays its 770 at home and 701 on the road

For the jays its 770 at home and 701 on the road
It is not the home road splits of the Jays, it is the Roger Centre stats for opposing teams vs. The Jays. Of course you are going to see an increase in OPS at Fenway with a 302 right field 3' short porch and a 37' wall in left at 304. It is a hitters park. You will also see an increase in the road teams OPS. That is what is missing at the Rogers Centre. The Jays suddenly become home run machines and their opponents don't gain anything against the mean, which is telling. One team (The Jays) seemingly have a major advantage (beyond being at home) that is not available to the other team. I can remember rumors from way back (90's) about the team having a guy in the hotel with a telescope. While never confirmed, I've never doubted the validity of the story (and actually thought that when this broke, that is what they were talking about.) While I doubt they will ever be able to prove anything (being even a player who is traded is not going to admit they had a competitive advantage and their stats are inflated) - watch The Jays' home hitting start to slack off a bit...
Now only a few more years until we hear about Jose Bautista testing positive for HGH.
The day MLB starts testing for HGH, Bautista's going to turn back into a pumpkin.
I was kind of think a guy like wells would say something considering how much he was booed over there, but his home/road splits from last year would suggest he benefited the most. Buatista on the other hand has the same home road splits. MLB should at least look into it.

noooooooooooooooooo! Carlos Zambrano mulling retirement?
He bashed teammates on June 4 in St. Louis, calling them "Triple-A players" after the team lost a 10-inning game on an Albert Pujols walk-off home run.
Ouch. His time with the Cubs is over... However, he's only 29 so I doubt he is going to retire. I expect to see him on the Waiver Wire and picked up by another team in short order. Even before this latest blowup, the Cubs were looking to move him - with the Yankees, White Sox, and Tigers being potential suitors.

Aww, you mad bro? Bautista Thrown Out August 26, 2011 vs. Tampa Bay Rays - YouTube
Bacchus, where is your panic level at with your struggling sox?
Bacchus, where is your panic level at with your struggling sox?
Not as high as one would think. They are using games earned earlier in the season to be extra cautious with key components (lots of injuries right now.) I think they will flip a switch and start rolling again at home, just in time for the post season. Facing Baltimore and Toronto in 8 of the 16 remaining doesn't hurt either to even out games against NY and TB (not to mention the Yankees and Rays play each other 7 times as well.) In the end, the Red Sox always have trouble with Tampa Bay but come the first day of the playoffs, the Rays will be golfing and the Sox will be ready for a successful playoff run.
Bacchus would you rather the Sox play the Rangers or the Tigers?
Bacchus would you rather the Sox play the Rangers or the Tigers?
The Rangers usually have our number, so I'd be much more encouraged if playing the Tigers in the first round.
The Rangers usually have our number, so I'd be much more encouraged if playing the Tigers in the first round.
You may not have to worry about the Rangers, if they don't start playing better the Angels will be in the playoffs and they won't be
The Rangers usually have our number, so I'd be much more encouraged if playing the Tigers in the first round.
I would probably agree with you because the Red Sox have a lefty heavy lineup and the Rangers have 3 lefty power pitchers that the Red Sox have struggled against all year (They are 1-5 against Wilson, Harrison, and Holland). The Tigers on the other hand have no lefty pitchers which seems to be the biggest weakness for the Red Sox.
You may not have to worry about the Rangers, if they don't start playing better the Angels will be in the playoffs and they won't be
They have only lost .5 a game on the Angels since their series despite playing a much more difficult schedule. The Rangers had 9 games against the Red Sox and Rays and 3 vs the As while the Angels had 3 against the Yankees and 10 against the Twins and Mariners. The Angels won't catch the Rangers especially now with the Rangers getting an easier schedule.

If I had one unworldly power, it would be to mute Joe Buck. My second power would be to mute Tim Mccarver. Amazing, they are baseball illiterate.
If I had one unworldly power, it would be to mute Joe Buck. My second power would be to mute Tim Mccarver. Amazing, they are baseball illiterate.
I would mute Tim McCarver first. He annoys the bejeezus out of me.
Justin Verlander grabbed win number 24 tonight. He seems to be a lock for the AL Cy Young.

Congratulations to Mariano today, big day for him. Kind of disappointing that the stadium was at it's smallest capacity in the past three years.
And there ya have it. I love how the scheduled the end of the season. Now both Rays and Sox will really have to fight for the WC.
Probably the last day this season that the Yankees will be in first and the BSox last. Even as a die-hard Yankee fan, I recognize the dynasty is wheel-chair bound this season, and probably for the next 3-4.
I posted the above on April 2, 2011, thus, It appears that I'm an idiot. I suppose it is entirely possible that the Yankees managed their division win through the use of gallons ginseng tea and tiger balm. It is fitting, though, that this team clinched their win on the back of a 40 year old has-been catcher who refused to accept that his time has passed. To be consistent with my past idiocy, and because like many fans and pros alike I'm superstitious, I predict the Yanks will lose in the first round of the ALCS. FYI: My license plate reads "ANSKY1," for those who may remember the 1996 major league baseball commercial on ESPN that featured David Cone.
If I had one unworldly power, it would be to mute Joe Buck. My second power would be to mute Tim Mccarver. Amazing, they are baseball illiterate.
I've been waiting around...my whole life for the Pirates to be good again and of course they weren't half bad this year for the first half, meaning some national broadcasts. I am so glad they tanked, because I cannot stand the guys who call the games. Anyway, now I want an Angels/D'Backs World Series.
The Red Sox are only 5-17 in September. I can not believe how dominate they were for 80% of this season and now they are very, very close to not being in the postseason. If you would of told me in August that the BoSox would be in a very tight wild card race at the end of the season, I would of told you to have another drink. The unpredictability of baseball is what makes the game so great in my opinion.

What fun is it to clinch early? Lol. Besides, we need to redeem 1978!
I dont get why sox fans hate mccarver he's basically in love with them. That new guy was way better than buck though.
I dont get why sox fans hate mccarver he's basically in love with them.
His analysis is so random and crazy, it just irks me to death. This is pretty much how the commentary sounds in my head during any given Fox broadcast... McCarver: This game reminds me of the little league world series in 1982 when a bird got hit with a pitch. Buck: It sure does Tim. McCarver: I'm guessing Terry Francona is probably dwelling on that game and is making all his decisions based on what transpired that sad August day. Buck: He has to be in this situation. McCarver: Did you know that was the last North American yellow stripped warbler left on the face of the earth? The very last one. Buck: I didn't Tim, but with what we've seen here today, clearly it was an important bird. McCarver: I think if the Sox commune with the spirit of that bird, they could easily come back today. That is the absolute key to this game. Buck: They are only down 27 runs. They are definitively still in this one.
I dont get why sox fans hate mccarver he's basically in love with them. That new guy was way better than buck though.
Please see exhibit a: Tim McCarver Gems ShutupTimMcCarver.com With real winners like,
“Something to keep in mind — it’s raining lightly. The infield could be very wet on ground balls.” “Roy Oswalt is a drop and drive pitcher. What is a drop and drive pitcher? He is a guy who drops and drives. Very simple.” Paraphrasing from the ALCS re: Curt Schilling’s sock:”The blood on his sock looks exactly like Oklahoma!”
And this hasn't been updated since 2006.
That was a huge stroke by Jacoby. Hopefully it is enough to put this game to bed. Is there anyone better right now?
