Lauren Conrad: This is really my life
With revelation after revelation about The Hills veracity, or lack thereof, its star has come to her show's defense. Lauren Conrad released a statement to Us Weekly that says: "There have been some rumors in the press about The Hills being fake. Many of you have been asking me if...
Feeling sorry for her is easy. After all, this is her life: Going on dates with actors set up by producers, feuding with people she might actually like but who have no friends of their own so they have to cast for their own wedding party. Tragic.
Give it up Lauren. The series is fake and will probably be canceled in less then a year as viewers flock to the next "it" show...
She said before season three (highest rated season) even started that the most she would do after three is one more season and that's it. I bet the ratings still haven't fallen too much even after all the proof that it's fake has come out.

That, and it's just mindless entertainment, the same way that pretty much ALL television shows are
That, and it's just mindless entertainment, the same way that pretty much ALL television shows are
Ya...but if I was watching a show that I thought was real, and come to find out it was totally fake - I'd feel like I was taken advantage of and probably stop watching!
Everyone has known it's not real since Laguna Beach days, so I never thought it was all real.
Everyone has known it's not real since Laguna Beach days, so I never thought it was all real.
That is weird. There was this "Katie" chick on these boards a few weeks ago that said:
We already know that the show is somewhat staged, Kristin Cavalari said as much in an interview a few years back. But the drama that goes on between the cast is real.
Umm...the drama that the writers script for them is Real-ly-good acting? :D
I still think the main situations are real. I think Heidi and Spencer really are together and really do live together. I think Lauren and Audrina are really friends and really do live together. I think that Lauren has a 'real' fashion internship at Teen Vogue (which I'm sure she got because of the show). I think her name really is Lauren Conrad. I think she really is from Laguna Beach. The Hills is like my version of WWE wrestling.

Then why didn't production on the series stop when the strike started??? Huh, smart guy?? Because the lines are not scripted. Certain situations are artificially set up, such as having the cast 'run in' to each other.
Then why didn't production on the series stop when the strike started?
Almost no shows shut down when the strike started. Most, like The Hills, had scripts for a certain number of weeks in the can. Also, not all the writers are covered by the WGA. This is not rocket science.
Certain situations are artificially set up, such as having the cast 'run in' to each other
..and living together and being friends or not being friends and fighting, and talking on the phone and being engaged, and the people at the upcoming wedding, and flying off to visit family and pretty much the ENTIRE SHOW if you sit down and think about it. I hate to rain on your parade, but there is nothing real about this show other then those are real actors getting paid to do a loosely scripted television series.
I don't care what you say, there is a basis of reality to the show.
I don't care what you say, there is a basis of reality to the show.
Listen, if you really want it to be real for you then I say why not. We all need our escapes. Some people read dime novels, some play video games and some watch scripted shows like The Hills. The important part is to step away when it is over and be able to discern fact from fiction. The human mind can be funny sometimes and if you want to believe something enough, it actually becomes real to you - but that doesn't mean it actually exists in a reality beyond your own. This is where I worry about you Katie. :(
The Hills Still Fake, We Still Watch Lauren Conrad and Heidi Montag have been spotted out...together. The strange thing is they weren't arguing with dramatic eye gestures over a fancy lunch. As Star magazine reports, "They were laughing, hugging and being very affectionate with one another," and there were no cameras around. Noooooo! How can this be?! With every report of Hills fakery we uncover, we've always been reassured that these two really do hate each other's guts. Now, this makes that exclusive Us clip of the girls fighting in next week's episode seem meaningless. (Sure, we still watched and loved it, but we feel a bit, well, used.) So, what we're wondering is how much fakeness can Hills viewers take before they just call the whole thing quits? K, I don't think that Heidi and Lauren are friends anymore. That pic was obviously taken pre nose job and plastic surgery Heidi, so I would like further photographic evidence. Also, they could be friends again and we may see it on the show at a later time. Like with Jen Bunney, the paps had already spotted them together months before the episode where they finally talk actually aired. I do think that the whole Brody/Spencer 'dudevorce' is fake. But I don't think that 'script writers' are responsible, I have always thought that Brody and especially Spencer are fame ****** and do whatever they can for more airtime on the Hills, since their own reality show got cancelled after about two episodes.
This is not worth arguing over. Tell Santa and the Tooth fairy I said hi. Time to watch some football...
