Johanna Competes for Miss Peru
Johanna posted this on her myspace blog a few weeks back:
Miss Peru 2008 Hello Guys, I am writing this blog to officially let everyone know that I am competing in the Miss Peru Universe 2008 Pageant taking place in Lima Peru April 16th. I will be representing all Peruvians living in the United States as Miss Peru USA. I am very happy and honored to have this chance to represent the thousands of Peruvians residing in the US. I am working very closely with L4TC as my platform charity. I look forward to helping many in Peru with this great organization. Thank you for all the support and nice comments i have been getting. Johanna Botta
I wonder if Johanna is snacking on the family pet (know in South America as cuy) during her stay in Peru? I hear it tastes like chicken, although I am not adventurous enough to find out... Update: Johanna confirmed that she does not eat guinea pig. ;)
she looks hot, like a fantana popsicle.
she looks hot, like a fantana popsicle.
A fantana popsicle? Don't think I've ever had one of those either. Does it taste like chicken too?
okay, seriously? They eat guinea pigs??? That is sooo... I don't even know what to say...
okay, seriously? They eat guinea pigs??? That is sooo... I don't even know what to say...
Some people in the world would say the same about us eating pigs or cows. I agree, though, I don't think I could eat that! I wonder if it would be good if we didn't know what it was, though! gag!

Seriously though, they probably laugh at us for keeping these tasty "rats" as pets!
Ecuadorians commonly consume Guinea pig meat is high in protein and low in fat and cholesterol, and is described as being similar to rabbit and the dark meat of chicken. The animal may be served fried (chactado or frito), broiled (asado), or roasted (al horno), and in urban restaurants may also be served in a casserole or a fricassee, sopa or locro de cuy, a soup dish.Pachamanca or huatia, a process similar to barbecueing, is also popular, and is usually served with corn beer (chicha) in traditional settings.
[ via Wikipedia ]
ummm, eww the thing still has its freaking eyeballs, I get that they are rat like animals but I am still grossed out...I would rather have a pet rat then have to eat one.
Well all this food talk is making me hungry and a quick search on google turned up an enticing recipe:
Fried Guinea Pig (Ayacucho-style) CUY CHAQTADO 1 guinea pig, de-haired, gutted, and cleaned 1/2 c. flour 1/4 - 1/2 t. ground cumin salt and black pepper to taste 1/2 c. oil Pat dry the skin of the guinea pig and rub in the cumin, salt, and pepper. Preheat oil. Dust the carcass with the flour and place it on its back in the oil, turning to cook both sides. Alternately, the guinea pig can be cut and fried in quarters. Serve with boiled potato or boiled manioc root, and a salad of cut tomatoes and slivered onions bathed in lime juice and a bit of salt. Have cold beer on hand.
I think I am going to head over to the local pet store and grab lunch (one for me and one for Zeus!)
Wow that is just gross. I don't know that I'd want to eat any recipe that included the phrases "de-haird and gutted" or "dust the carcass ."
Wow that is just gross. I don't know that I'd want to eat any recipe that included the phrases "de-haird and gutted" or "dust the carcass ."
I mean seriously..."dust the carcass" OMG, I am like traumatized over here man. But I am still curious so tell me how you and Zeus like it, LOL.
It tastes a little like chicken. I had lunch last week at Johanna's bar/restaurant in Santa Monica, The Parlor. This delicacy was not on the menu. I'll have to ask about it the next time I'm there.

What a unique item that could be prepared to integrate the best parts of her American and Peruvian heritage. You could strip the meat off the little fury rodent, beer batter it and serve it as either cuy or cavy fingers (so the uninformed would not know what it is) with a great honey mustard sauce and some purple Peruvian homefried potatoes! ;)

I wouldn't doubt that I have unknowingly ate dog or cat from a chinese food place especially here around Dallas...

At least the damn Guinea Pigs in Peru are bred for domestic consumption. Popping a squirrel with a BB gun that happens to be raiding your trash can for snacks in the back yard seems a bit lower on my gastronomical to do list! The Huckster loves dem Squirrels!

The others are all completely natural Johanna.
They are all very good, but the third one from the top is a real keeper. It seems to capture a different look for Johanna and I like it. Very sultry! P.s. There is also at least one of them that I wish you went a little lower on the watermark V1man.:devil2:
